The Extraordinary Story Of Lavinia Warren 

I dated a little person many years ago....I was never treated better by any guy. He was a gentleman and was gorgeous. Unfortunately, he never believed how wonderful he was..... We need to drop our prejudice against anyone that is a bit different.

I live in Middleboro, Ma (her hometown) and we have portraits of Lavinia, Tom,Minnie and Commodore Nutt hanging in our library...also,Minnie is buried in the cemetery here and has a tiny grave

We had a very dear friend who had maybe a similar problem. She was very small and her hands were mis- shaped. She was somewhat hump backed and might have had other deformations that one couldn’t see. She had earned her teaching degree but her parents wouldn’t allow her to teach because they were afraid that her students would laugh at her. She had a younger sister who was completely different from her. She was a large woman however she was perfectly properly for her size. They were both sweet ladies and loved 🥰 to babysit my little baby girl when I had to go to my doctor appointments. They were old enough to be my grandma.

What a life she had but its sad her sister passed away and then her husband.

She is from Middleborough, MA and we have a museum! As a student who spent afternoons at our public library I was looked down on by a nearly life size painting.

People love to say that all "freak shows" were inhumane, but they fail to realize that at least P.T. treated all of the talent with dignity, respect, and fair wages. He gave the people who worked with him a far better life than the rest of the world ever would have. He gave them a home and family. Can you say that about your employer?

I'm related to Lavinia Warren via my mother's side of the family in not one but two branches of my mom's family tree. Lavinia and her sister are in my family tree via a 12th great grandfather. Interestingly on my paternal fanily tree I'm distantly related, via my father's mother, to Eng and Chang Butler (famous Siamese twins) via their wives who were sisters. My grandmother used to tell me family stories about Eng and Chang, things about them that I've never read in print. If my mom had not tasked me to do genealogical research I'd never have known I was related to Lavinia's family.

In Chester NH, I was friends with a relative of Commodore Nutt. Also with last name Nutt. We both did good things for the local library. She was short, but not that short. (Not an official 'Little Person.')

*It's almost like entering a different world.* I'm happy for her that she chose the life she did. It worked for her and it seems people loved her for who and what she was...unique. It is sad that she lost her sister and her husband but for someone with an anomalous condition she lived to a ripe old age.

Thank you, that was an interesting biography. It's very satisfying to know that a person in life who has a unique set of circumstances to deal with, finds love with another person who understands, as they too have their own load to bear. What a sad end for Minnie and her baby, although she would have been overjoyed at being a mother, and had the chance to experience it however briefly.

I dated a little person many moons ago. His size did not bother me however, it was a great insecurity to him which is why I had to break up with him. His insecurity about me leaving him for a "normal" sized man was to great for me.

She was obviously an incredibly clever, courageous and astute woman. The baby business is horrible and shows how ruthless she and the others were. Poor little babes.

There is a book about her life. According to said book Commodore Nutt married her little sister and she died in childbirth. A death that Vinnie feared with every bone in her body. you see when she was a small child they had a cow on their farm with a similar condition as herself and her mother and aunt watched in horror as that poor little cow tried to give birth to a normal sized baby. Vinnie never allowed her marriage to be consumated and the series of fake babies they had while on tour broke her little sisters heart as she was the one who cared for them. it was this very thing that drove Minnie to seek motherhood regardless of the fate it could bring her. There was a song written about her death as it was so very sad.

Great video as always!!! It's sad how they just used babies from different orphanages just as "props"..... WE ALL know that today that most definitely would NOT be allowed!! I had also found it heartbreaking when Lavinia passed away, she did not receive a big beautiful turn down as her husband had.... Andher tombstone only states "his wife" as if he was always placed first/or he was more important 😡.... Since she unfortunately had no children, I wonder where/who the rest of her estate went too?!?!

WOW! I knew who Tom Thumb is, but had no idea he had a wife and a child! When people talk about him, they only talk about him, not his family. You said her sister gave birth to a large child, do you mean she gave birth to a child without dwarfism? If that's true, no wonder she didn't make it. I don't think c-sections were known at that time in history, but it wasn't very long after they started performing them. Back then, Dr's didn't check pregnant women like they do now. In the Victorian period, if I remember right, they still didn't know anything about the inside of people, especially pregnant women. The only reason they knew about mens' insides are because a man had a huge war wound in his stomach that left a large flap of open skin that could be lifted up and he lived, and allowed the Dr's to lift the flap and observe what happened when he ate, and did other things and they recorded it and made drawings. That's how they learned about mens intestines, but it would be many more years before they knew what was going on inside a woman.

Humans are SO depraved and predatory regardless of personal interpretation and/or perspective. As a curious outsider , it's always sad to read how any human can exploit for profit any other human. ....but then I also feel that way about the exploitation of animals. This is, however, a very interesting video so I thank YOU for sharing it!! And now I've subscribed to your channel....................
