Speaking of which perhaps you could also look to doing a story about a Boo Hag, They are similar to vampires but they would steal the breath of someone not their blood (Potentially their soul at the same time) during the night they would "Ride" someone on their bed as they slept and would steal their breath away. they themselves have no skin and are completely red but they wear the skin of their victims, their victims are people that awake during the night as they are being ridden in their beds, they are brutally murdered and flayed. I can't write stories that are any good but this makes me think of the Boo Hags and of someone that is easily awoken, being in an awkward position awaking to a boo hag and somehow not alerting it to the fact that the person awoke.
