We wave off two more companions as the Doctor, Ben, Polly and Jamie arrive back on 1960s Earth for a story which, in my opinion, is something of a blueprint for much of Doctor Who to follow...

This is a ton of fun, great cast, great ideas, location filiming etc. The departure of Ben and Polly does rankle, but Jamie gets so emphasised as "top companion" that the show doesn't really need them anymore. The story suffers from being padded out from four episodes to six, but there's a lot to love here and it points the way forward to what the show would do much more of in future years!

The relationship between Jamie and the Doctor is what makes me fall in love with the second Doctor.

Something definitely clicks. It's not really that Ben and Polly are held over from his predecessor because he still manages to form a real and different enough bond with them from Hartnell. But the casting of Hines as Jamie and the care given to Jamie's character really is something special and it allows Troughton to develop a chemistry with Hines which is one of the very best the show has ever seen

Samantha Briggs was so desperately needed to stay as the viewers eyes from the present day. Unlike Ian and Barbara, Dodo, Ben and Polly - just imagine a present day companion joining The Doctor on his travels but it being HER CHOICE to do so. Also, it would make a nice change for The Doctor to arrive in the present day and not abduct someone (which is a rather strange trait for a hero). I can't help feeling the decision to lose Ben and Polly was never properly thought through. We learn they leave the same day they entered the TARDIS - meaning the events in this story happen at the same time as The War Machines. How brilliant would it have been for a radio broadcast warning of large machines taking to the streets of London? With just a couple of small tweaks, this story could have been phenomenal.

Everything to do with the second Doctor was just on point. Pat had such charisma, had such rapport with his co stars and gave it his all that even the Krotons is enjoyable 😋🤫🤗 also one overlooked quirk of the 2nd Doctors run is how often a scene at the end of a story directly led into the next story. Like the Tardis being stolen at the end of this story leads straight into Evil of the Daleks. It happened sometimes with the 1st Doctor but was really noticeable with the 2nd. I really enjoyed those bits.

I’ve been watching from the beginning but on my TV app so don’t normally get the chance to comment. I’m so glad to see the love for The Faceless Ones. I love this story it deserves to be better thought of than it is ❤❤

Faceless ones was very good. Its moody and stmospehric and its got one of thos eectended mysteries that keeos you on hour toes. I do wish we had mroe od the story, but the animation is auite good and does thr sotry justice. An airport was an absolutely inspired setting for this one as people just levaing and never returning isnt questioned so it makes it the perfect setting for thr chameleons plan.

One thing I've noticed from following you on this marathon from the beginning is you suddenly notice a massive shift in tone and story writing style. I love Troughtons Era but compared to Hartnell who had a variety of stories and styles and themes. Troughtons are becoming mainly bases under attack. I only just noticed it after watching the Macra Terror.

I think this episode is Troughton at his best. I must admit I was quite disappointed in the small role Ben and Polly got in it because of how little screen time they had. I wished they got more time to shine considering it was their final story. Either way it was a brilliant story
