With its mini foreigner focused nightlife area, locals nightlife (albeit less than in former times), some classic cheap old hotels, markets, lovely parks, foreign consulates, malls, & a lot of smiley university girls Khon Kaen still has a lot to offer travelers who want to slow down a bit. It has become a bit faded, but there are signs of rejuvenation with the new train station & upgraded track, & the new high speed train line under construction which will surely put Khon Kaen back on the intrepid travelers map.
