i agree, people shouldn't critically compare the hosts so much sometimes - jesse has his own style and voice which i think has brought something new and interesting to this channel. and indy seems to have moved on to something that is working well for him too. very pleased for both of these guys (and the teams they work with) and hope they all keep seeing success.

While not to the degree of segregation in America, the French and British (and many others) displayed similary attitudes. The whole mandate system - "these people are not fit to govern themselves, the mighty whitey must lead them to enlightenment!" is really obvious racism.

Well this is more of a mechanism to protect the League itself. If a great power gets overruled by a bunch of "smaller" powers they might just leave and do their own thing. So to give them this veto right aims at making them stay. (As we know from history, this whole leaving thing happened anyway...)

How in the world could this presenter MISS the major problems --- HUGE SHORTCOMINGS --- of this covenant? He misses, ENTIRELY, the primary reason why many Americans rejected this covenant. Is this for real? Hint: this presenter appears to know almost nothing about Wilson's primary characteristics; a supreme racist, and, further, one of the early members of the staunchly anti-liberty REGRESSIVE MOVEMENT.

Fascinating episode! Wilson had an unheard of today mix in his personality... very religious, progressive, globalist, racist. The described fundamental characteristics of the League made it obvious it was doomed from the beginning. In all honesty the UN hasn’t done much better.

Yes it has. The U.N. has one core mission and everything else follows from that, all of it. The U.N. has as its mission to prevent World War III. And it has done so. All the other bullshit along the way is to suppress the causes of World War: refugees, pandemics, human rights abuses, ALL of it is ultimately aimed at one and only one goal. This is why it APPEARS to fail. Of course there will never be an end to brushfire wars, to refugees, to pandemics. And yet, there has not been and most likely will not be a third world war, and the U.N. has contributed decisively to that goal by reducing risks which could lead to a third world war and by creating fora for dialogue to prevent such a war.

Bluemotel the Dutch had a pro German political view during the war and reclaiming Limburg would be a punishment for this. Also the province of Limburg and Zeeuws Vlaanderen belonged in earlier times several times to Belgium dukes or Belgium cities.

If you look at the Belgian-Dutch border, you can see some really illogical things. Like the Dutch holding the south side of the Schelde river, potentially denying the sea-port of Antwerp acces to the sea (and holding back bagger-works deepeing the riverbed so larger ships would go the the Dutch sea-port of Rotterdam instead), as well as that bit of Dutch Limburg dangeling down, holding the Belgians away from the Maas river where it becomes more accesseble. These borders where created when the Belgians where negotiating their independance from the Dutch from a position of weekness. Now that Belgium had 'won' The great war- the war to end all wars- it wanted its borders fixed, like any victorious nation would. Only, the Dutch where neutral during ww1 so the Belgian delegation no doubt made something up to legitimise these claims.

@@wybo2 and of course that Belgium Dutch border situation is complicated further by the municipal town of Baarle-Hertog with Dutch and Belgian enclaves. As it was in neutral Netherlands, those Belgian enclaves became sanctuaries for escaping refugees.

Premature take: I would say the League of Nations was set up to fail. The world’s only healthy economy and military has withdrawn from the world (for better or worse, opinions vary) and nationalist ambitions and resentments remain smoldering or stoked. Just about everyone was still itching for a fight and the end of WWI only really gave countries breathing room and recovery time to get back into it for round two. The League of Nation basically provided cover for all sorts of nonsense.

A century after the creation of the League of Nations and 75 years after League 2.0 (United Nations) we're still trying to figure out this whole international organization thing. And many of the weaknesses of the organization in 2020 are the same as they were in 1920, and will never be resolved until attitudes change.

The American hat is called a "Montana peaked" campaign hat. Officially issued to troops 1911-1942. It is still worn by US army drill sergeants today at boot camp as a mark of their service. The helmet is the M1917 and is a direct copy of the British Brodie helmet which the US purchased from the UK upon arrival in France. It was replaced with the M1 helmet in 1942 for all troops.

My understanding of (Presbyterian) Wilson is that he adhered to "Liberal Theology", so he can be described as "deeply religious" in the same sense that the Presbyterian Church USA can be described as deeply religious, which is double talk. It does fit with the whole idea of meddling in peoples affairs and the "nanny state". But perhaps a more specific focus on Wilson is warranted in another film. I think Wilson's stroke was the deciding factor. Despite the Senate's isolationism, the USA continued to expand its navy to be the world's largest. The biggest issue is that a proper view of the Constitution prohibits outside submission to a World Court.

There are two versions of how the incident started. 1) In the first version, the incident began on October 18, when a Greek soldier ran after his dog, which had strayed across the border from Greece at the pass Demir Kapia [bg] on Belasitsa (Belles); thus, it is sometimes referred to as the War of the Stray Dog.[7][8][9] The border was guarded by Bulgarian sentries, and one of them shot the Greek soldier. 2) In the second version, the Greco-Bulgarian frontier incident was caused when, on October 18, Bulgarian soldiers crossed the Greek border, attacked a Greek outpost at Belasitsa and killed a Greek captain and a sentry.

geen idee of je er nogsteeds benieuwd naar bent, maar de reden was dat Belgie met het innemen van zuidlimburg een betere verdediging kon maken tegen Duitsland, terwijl met het innemen van Zeeuws Vlaanderen voorkomen kon worden dat Nederland de toegang tot de haven van Antwerpen zou sluiten, iets wat ze tijdens ww1 deden waardoor de Britten ergens anders aan land moesten komen en Antwerpen in Duitse handen viel. overigens werd in Belgie zelf het plan vrijwel alleen door de Franstalige Belgen gesteund, de Belgen in Vlaanderen waren positief over Nederland vanwege de opvang van Belgische vluchtelingen in het begin van de oorlog

Yeah yeah the league prevented a war between Greece and Bulgaria and made Greece pay money to Bulgaria. In that instance the league operated as it was supposed to, because Greece attacked Bulgaria after a Greek officer was shot at the border. But in 1923 Italy bombarded, invaded and occupied Corfu (Greek Ionian Island), because of the murder of an Italian general on the Greco-Albanian border, which GREECE DIDN'T COMMIT. The murderers were NEVER FOUND and Greece was forced by the league to pay money to Italy, salute their fleet, apologize to the Great Powers and pay for the investigation. This was an unfair treatment of Greece by the League and a humiliation for the Greek Government. But why should Greece be treated this way by the league when she was the defender and why should Greece be treated the same way when she was the aggressor at the border incident with Bulgaria? On the other hand, Italy didn't have any implications and got everything she wanted when she was the aggressor. The League of Nations treated Great Powers and smaller states DIFFERENTLY!

Mr. Alexander. As I listen and watch you speak I find myself very distracted by your unbelievable hand movements. This leads me to ask the question, are you conducting an orchestra, sending semaphore signals or speaking in some as yet unknown sign language? Your hands appear to be two separate entities operating of their own free will. Unfortunately, they only seem to have three basic movements that are used throughout your lecture. At least teach them a few more actions because they are far too repetitious in their present application. I suggest that you either drop them all or add more variation. Perhaps a wave, a salute, an OK sign or an occasional flip of the bird to show disapproval of certain historic action. There is always room for improvement.
