Great vid. Ken Bernard Domik is RU-vid's biggest failure. This event was the nail in the coffin for his gradual decline into the toilet.

Thank you for making this video with such a fantastic and direct breakdown. Ken Domik really believed that he could make a big investment return on hosting a first-time RU-vid food reviewer convention in Galveston, Texas, of all places, not even a major city, scheduling nothing that makes any sense for an actual convention, and thinking that his entitlement delusion that he's a big name would totally bring in the paying badges and money. The fact he still insisted that the VIP afterparty should remain basically "creators" only wholly spoke to his arrogance. Renting a Bentley and doing a "live food review" with Oreos that someone grabbed at 7/Eleven at the last second is crazy to me. I put on the blame on Ken because even though Daym had the name and money, Ken had to have been the one to obnoxiously convince him and others with this delusional idea that he was a celebrity RU-vidr, thus everyone as his "peers" are the same, that any of this would work. I love that the big buffet food dinner at the end was quite literally the most basic and shittiest food I would be insulted to be shown. You forgot that someone unearthed the lost Periscope footage of Ken Domik drunkenly spoiling JP's marriage proposal to Julia which was myth for a long time but I finally saw it lol.

Ken Domik vets really out here trying to silence any form of critique on their lord and saviour Ken Domik who makes low quality food reviews from his car that any human with an iphone can make.

While there, Ken said, "I'm gonna ride this RU-vid gravy train until the wheels fall off" which pretty much was the indignation to how he felt about what he does on RU-vid. Daym invested in his passion. Ken invested in himself. I'd like to believe it would've been successful had all *_the right_* people showed up and promoted it.

A food convention which didn't have any food in it? People had to go to IHOP for lunch! Dafuq? It's supposed to be a food convention!

Crave con is legit one of the worst RU-vid fails of all time that literally no one talks about. Daym and Ken must've easily lost 10s of thousands of dollars on this thing and the poor fuckers that showed up I feel for the most.

Glad to see someone documented this. I provided the consoles for this convention. I'm actually in the video in the hall with the rest of the people. It was 6+ years ago but iirc they only asked we provide that many TV's and consoles. I was one of the few people that hit boogie up to play. He was a nice enough dude. TBH this con, despite it having such a low turnout, was really fun. We got paid to hang around a bunch of youtubers we knew, play video games, and eat some free food. It was dope. Not surprised to hear of how it got swept under the rug though.

ahhhh yes, cravecon. such a massive failure that doesn't get talked about nearly enough the biggest problem was that ken and daym grossly miscalculated just how many people regularly watch fast food reviewers to the point that they would be willing to attend an entire "convention" based around it. the other major issue with cravecon was its location. normally you'd expect conventions to be held in big cities but ken and daym cheaped out and booked a hotel in the middle of nowhere because they got a deal on it. also if i remember correctly, the prices were ridiculous. for VIP (which included getting to hangout "backstage" with the creators and getting to attend a post-con dinner) it was at least $200 for a single ticket. so combine those issues i listed and it's no surprise that only 15 people showed up the only thing that closely resembled a "con" with regards to cravecon was how ken and daym royally conned their fellow creators into attending this failed event that they were hyping up to no end. the best part is that neither of them have admitted that it was a failure to this day. ken deleted all content he uploaded from the event and daym put out a sad video a few weeks later defending cravecon and basically claiming it was a success because "it happened." it's worth noting that ken and daym stopped collaborating after cravecon happened, probably because they blame each other for its failure and how much money they ended up losing. there just isn't enough interest in youtube fast food reviewers to warrant an entire event. i feel like there would've for sure been more attendees had the event been held in a major city instead of some random city in texas, if anything, because people would've shown up to see daym since he's probably the most well known of the fast food reviewers (ken has the personality of a rock and no one was there for him.) good job on the video

Just because you “can” do something, dosent mean you should

As someone who was actually at this event the turn out at the most may have been 60 people at most. I bought a basic foodie pass at the last minute and showed and maybe about half an hour in a guy with the VIP pass gave me his pass because he said he wasn’t feeling well. The event itself was underwhelming. I will say the creators were very approachable the entire time I was there. I did meet a lot of great people. It was more like a really big hangout. The Dinner itself was decent and I would say there was maybe 30 people at most that weren’t creators. The VIP after party was actually fun and to be honest anyone could of really showed up they did not have anyone at the door checking passes. The actual security from the event was taking part in the partying. Daym, Rob Gavagan, Matthew Santoro, Deathtoll & Boogie were probably the friendliest people during the entire event. Overall the event itself was a good time however Cravecon itself was lacking.

Right now Ken only does like Stealth Camping Videos. He barely does food reviews. He will do it when he feels like and he seemed to have lost his way of what made him so good in the first place. I can see why the people who did a Collab with Ken don't ever talk about about him.

Putting it in Texas was just stupid, if not California at least put it in Las Vegas, it probably would have done so much better.

You gotta feel for daym. He obviously made a ton of mistakes throughout the planning of this event, but like you said he actually seemed to want to bring the idea to life. Ken Domik on the other hand, behaved like a jerk throughout the whole ordeal and continues to do so. The more I learn about him the less I respect him.

I've been subscribed to Ken and Daym for almost a decade now and still enjoy their content on occasion (the foodie channels are lower on my radar these days), and I remember thinking that CraveCon was a cool idea back in 2016. Being totally objective, the failure of CraveCon ultimately boiled down to Ken and Daym having a vision that far outweighed their capabilities. They are not event planners and stumbled at every turn - not having enough time to plan the event, overpromising at the beginning, hosting it in a remote location, not securing enough sponsors, not promoting it effectively, the list goes on. Had they invested some money into hiring someone who could plan an event like this or could at least guide them in the right direction would have helped. As this video also points out, they also didn't have a plan for how the event would go down and the whole thing felt thrown together very haphazardly. The lack of sponsors also meant that Ken and Daym shouldered the financial burden themselves and it's easy to surmise that they both took a loss. This also soured their friendship since neither has collaborated with or even acknowledged the other person in the time since. Ken and Daym have their critics and I'm not in either camp, I just watch the videos and enjoy the content for what it is, but it's hard to deny that CraveCon was a big and costly misstep. Sometimes ideas are best left as just that...ideas.

Man I knew this was going to flop when I saw daym did almost no traditional advertising in galveston and Houston during the 6 months they "planned" it. It wasn't until the day before the event daym got on a community funded radio station in Houston after he called in asked if he could talk about cravecon. They politely gave him 5 minutes on air . It obviously didnt move the needle. The video of this used to be on dayms channel. Had they put the effort on locals they could have had decent turn out if it was a food convention. However they still wouldn't have made any money. it just wouldn't haven't been as embarrassing it turned out.

Extra tidbits that couldn’t make its way into the video: Order of Events: You got me, I lied about the order of the events. In my defense it had a better flow for the video in my opinion. The live food review and the proposal happened earlier than mentioned, but I felt that they worked better narrative-wise to put them at the end of the discussion. But everything that was said to have happened, did happen. Headcount: I know it is a photo from only one angle, but I never saw really more than that in any of the footage either. So, I am still pretty convinced that my around 60 attendees is close enough to the actual amount. It also goes well with what was said by Ken regarding ticket sales. VIP+ tickets: I am 100% certain of one attendee purchasing the VIP+, our lovely Jarred, though I am not sure if there were any others. Jarred had told me that there were as much as two others there as well. Though, without a proper confirmation or me even seeing them in videos I decided against counting them in. Plus I had been pretty generous in saying everyone had bought a VIP ticket minimum. My breakdown of expenses: The hotels had a discount from the event, so they are cheaper than their typical price. With that, most of my numbers are either averages from the expected values or rough estimates, this is simply due to the limited amount of information on the event as a whole. I essentially just grabbed all the things that I heard them mention they needed to pay for, or I noticed that they had. So, I am willing to admit my numbers may be off a bit in both revenue and cost, but there really is no easy way for me to get those exact numbers unless I knew someone who worked the event, which I don’t. Oh, and there is some evidence pointing towards that they were “lent” the Bentley by the convention center, as that’s what Daym says at the start of his review. Though, I never found anything here or there about it aside from that one offhanded mention of it by Daym. Plus, if they had only been given the car last minute then it’d make it even sadder as that means they intended for people to just watch them eat Swedish Fish Oreos at a table or something. After the fact addition for cost: Post video release me here, there was a comment on this video claiming that they had assisted with the event and claimed that game consoles and such were donated for the event. I know you can only trust a RU-vid comment's validity so much, but eh, I'm inclined to believe it. Because at the end of the day, even if some costs were wrong, it seems reasonable enough to assume that the lost money and probably even mor than predicted in the video. However, I can never prove that without information from event organizers. However, at the time of making this video, I did it the generalized price breakdown to show the the fact that this event lost money. This being the most important aspect to the story and subsequent reason to why CraveCon never happened again. Merch available: They had made t-shirts, wristbands, backpacks, posters, and Lego minifigures to be sold. With that they had branded plastic bags and lanyards. No numbers on how much was made or how well it sold, though looking through the crowd I would say poorly.

CraveCon was an embarrassment. What a waste of my birthday money. Kinda sad.

Seems like if even one person involved had any idea what they were doing, or at the very least, a coherent vision, Crave Con could have been a (moderate) success.

Ken’s ego was the biggest reason it flopped and why he erased any content he had regarding it. The whole situation with beer drank, the lack of preparation, and just how the event went down was all on the basis that ken though his name was enough to sell it. He wasn’t even the big host of the event daym was! You cannot go into a event like this and on your first go at it expect to make money or break even at that. You think the people who did the first vidcon made money from it? No it’s a slow process to build such an annual event. At least daym took his loss like a man meanwhile ken tried so hard to forget about it 🤣.

Great upload. IMO 2 things doomed it ..1) it should have been held in a major transportation hub (I.e ATL) 2) it should have been a less expensive, smaller, focused event.. at the end of day, people fail - but it's how you handle failure - Daym moved on because he's an adult, Ken not so much

Personally? I don’t think the idea of an event based on food / food reviewers was bad. We seen events specific on an interest / topic become successful I just think overall it was badly planned / executed as you listed. In a way? I kinda wanna see Daym Drops try it again sometime, just he needs more time, better planning, maybe a team to help him so he doesn’t feel too overwhelmed. Then perhaps it would be more successful As you said ken was more about the money. He didn’t feel like a co host at times either, like most of the times he was the only one using a camera. Like at 5:20 when everyone else is together but he’s walking around holding a camera? It’s like he doesn’t want to have fun or hype the event, he’s just doing the video for himself So yeah. Not a great event from the looks of it, and peoples reaction to it. But again, I don’t hate the idea. I hope something like this can be tried again, just ideally better
