You ever dance with the devil in the pale moonlight?
Between the theatrical releases of Richard Donner’s groundbreaking Superman movie in 1978 and Bryan Singer’s trendsetting X-Men movie in 2000, Tim Burton brought the Caped Crusader to the big screen in a truly spectacular fashion. With 1989’s Batman and its sequel, 1992’s Batman Returns, Burton created a cinematic template that other movies in the superhero genre adopted to mixed results.
While some Dark Knight movies like Batman Forever and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice have aged poorly, Burton’s Batman movies remain timeless classics that continue to influence comic book movies today.

Batman Returns is my personal favourite Batman film and I think a lot of that is down to the incredible production design of Gotham and of course Danny DeVito

You've touched on something very interesting in terms of the parallels between The Joker and Batman, during the portion of the video where you refer to mirrors. The Joker uses mirrors to check his own reflection because, as you say, he's a narcissist (to such an extent, his goal in life is to transform everyone and everything in his image, incuding his mistress, the consumers of Gotham, and even artwork), whereas Batman uses (one-way) mirrors to keep tabs on others, rather than check his own reflection, because his ultimate goal is to *stop* others from ending up like himself (i.e. an orphan who lost his family to criminal violence). This theme is partly carried into the next film, where once again Batman's goal is to *stop* others experiencing his own tragic fate (e.g. rescuing the children from trauma, hoping The Penguin finds his parents alive, trying to prevent Selina from becoming a vigilante), whereas The Penguin's goal is to make others suffer just as he has (i.e. by drowning Gotham's children). And they say these films aren't deep and are simply all style and no substance...

There is a lot going on in Burton’s films sub-textually. I don’t think he gets enough credit for his visual storytelling in both Batman films. There is more going on in regards to the parallel between Batman & Joker as well.

The pretty girl from 55-1:03, yowza! I was 18 in 1989, so I'd say she and I are probably pretty near in age. Batman is my favorite, he and Spider-Man. I love all the Batman movies, the first 4, the next 3, and I can't wait for number 8, "The Batman"!
