Chris Stuckmann reviews The Fall Guy, starring Ryan Gosling, Emily Blunt, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Hannah Waddingham, Teresa Palmer, Winston Duke, Stephanie Hsu. Directed by David Leitch.
They also need a best Voice acting catagory and best motion capture performance catagory so many amazing performances have been snubbed I would have loved to see Andy serkis get a nomination for playing Ceasar in the apes movies
I dont think they, there is a reason why they don't. They're very fearful people will die or seriously injure themselves in order to win an Oscar. Could create a lot of tragedies just because people want a piece of metal.
@Kieronic1989 I've heard this reasoning before and it's absolutely bogus. There is so many safety measures that you have to go through for any stunt and stuntpeople already die from stunts. Happened from Deadpool 2 and The Dark Knight just off the top of my head. So these people need to be honored and those after. Again lamest excuse. Ever.
A lot of stunt people and coordinators don't want an Oscar category. The reason is that it is dangerous enough already without this idea that going bigger might win you an Oscar. It has been mentioned a few times by stunt people on the Corridor Crew couch. They absolutely deserve recognition for what they do, but a competition to outdo each other with something so dangerous isn't the way.
Yeah, I felt like the honorary Oscars would be a better place for recognizing stunt men and women. Kind of like a lifetime award for a certain actor or actress, I think we just need to recognize and admire the amazing stunt work that's been done over the years.
You can easily fix that by describing the category as something that not only requires stunts to be big. Maybe it's more about how it looks on screen than how difficult it was to achieve. Often the great stunts aren't really noticeable because they look so real, like rolling down a set of stairs.
It's great that Ryan Gosling hasn't had a miss with comedic roles. With the underrated The Nice Guys, Barbie, and now The Fall Guy, this man can literally do anything with such a perfect charisma and chemistry with the cast members 🙌
I felt like this movie was just a parody of the movie industry, having countless references to other movies and laughing on cliches by having a little twist on them each time, the action is perfect,i give this movie a 9/10
That's why I love John Wick. Director Chad Stahelski was a stuntman so knew exactly what he wanted for the stunts and fight sequences. I'm not sure how many more stuntman/directors are out there besides Chan.
It's nice to see Teresa Palmer getting more work. She's heavily underrated, her first scene with Gosling in this movie was absolutely incredible and hilarious
off topic: I'M SO HAPPY FOR YOUR COLLABORATION WITH FLANAGAAAAAAAN, He is super fresh, I LOVE his movies and if he saw something in you and your project I cant' wait to see
Also gotta give props for setting the movie in my city! I know y'all from the US are probably used to seeing every movie ever be set in your city, but as an Aussie, I think I speak for the rest of the world in saying that it's quite a special thing for us to see a Hollywood movie filmed on our home turf.
As someone who highly enjoyed Bullet Trains and loves Gosling as an actor, I’m definitely looking forward to seeing this movie today. And it being a big love-letter to stuntwork from a director who used to actually be a stunt coordinator is the icing on the cake for me.👌🏽
@@prostagma6055the credits are side by side with videos showing the stuntmen doing stunts so they do make it quite clear at the end the part that they played in the movie and which ones are done by the stuntmen
A love letter to stunt men and women in film. I saw this with friends at an early screening last week and it was so good to see the action set pieces set in Sydney Aus
Went into it 50/50 given my memories of the tv series - way better than anything I could have expected - shades of Indiana Jones/Last Action Hero and loved the piss take of Dune
Looks like this year will be the best year in movies that Hollywood should made even the problems from most studios last year. THAT is the prime example why movies should’ve been made period. Great review, Chris.
As a wee little nipper growing up in the late 70's - 80's in the great kindom of the the uniteds of the UK. The "Fall Guy" will, WILL, always be that great ensemble of great American tv like ..... The Fall Guy, CHiPs, Wonder Women, Street Hawk, Airwolf, Simon & Simon, Oh my god, we were so lucky ITV bought the rights to these shows and more back then. I always remember Lee Majors singing in the titles of The Fall Guy, "I'm the unknown stuntman that made Eastwood look so fine." Oh, "The Littlest Hobo" Ahhhh, the memories. Was also brought to the uk via ITV in the 80's.
@@jjstarrprod You mean starring Bill Bixby as David Banner. That show had a lot of heart despite having that title because of the human interest stories and not focusing on the superhero aspect of the character. I loved Bill Bixby as an actor so I watched his tv shows. I also loved the theme song of The Incredible Hulk.
@@whatevergoesforme5129 Iconic ! I still remember it to this day. I feel as much as I loved Hulk at some point in the MCU (between Avengers and Ragnarok), they never managed to catch even a glimpse of what made the heart of the original Hulk TV show.
With the rising of AI in the entertainment industry, film making movies like these will keep reminding us human really do go out of our way to make real movie magic, practical stunts and people working behind the scene all included must be appreciated.
I watched reruns of the show with my mom as a kid and absolutely LOVED it. I will watch this in her memory, but it is great to know it is also a good movie, so thank you as always!
I was a huge fan of the TV show and watched every episode. It hit me at just the right age - about 10-years old - when there seemed to be fantastic stunts in every film. Raiders of the Lost Ark had just come out and that blew me away. I think Harrison Ford even narrated a television special that same year on the stunt industry. So that's a HUGE motivator for me to see this film and I'm very happy that it has turned out good (at least from most of the critics that I'm hearing from).
I loved "Hooper" as well. The outfit Gosling is wearing in the opening scene (black and yellow leather) reminded me of Burts outfit in the opening scene of "Hooper". A nod from one stunt movie to another? Speaking of "nods"... in one of the fight/shootout scenes, the sound effect of "The Six Million Dollar Man"s bionic power was added, in what I can only imagine of being a nod to Lee Majors. I loved the "Fall Guy" TV series when I was a teenager. I've always been interested in the behind the scenes of movies and stunts. The end of movie credits with the extra views of the stunts was really cool. But unfortunately the story of the movie didn't interest me at all.
Hooper was and is the movie to watch. This remake, if you can even call it that, will suck balls. Hooper had real stunt men doing crazy stunts. This new movie is mostly CGI.
I stayed for the credits and was enjoying the behind the scene shots when the cleaning person in the theater turned on all the lights and started cleaning. Another person told her the movie wasn't done yet to turn off the lights and the cleaning person mumbled something and kept cleaning. There was also a post credit scene.
We have been so stoked to see this film since the first trailer hit the theaters! Going Friday and we cannot wait! Thanks for another spoiler free review!
Speaking of good stuntwork, would be awesome if you'd review Boy Kills World, which has fantastic action choreography and could really use the extra support. Looking forward to Shelby Oaks - that Flanagan announcement was quite exciting
This was such a delight! I laughed SO much and adored the dynamic between Jody and Colt. It struck a great balance between all of the action-thriller-mystery genre trappings AND the romantic comedy ones without being cliched or predictable and I love how the writing and dialogue was so intentional. So much went full circle. This is my favorite movie of the year so far 🤗 and yes, my whole theatre cheered and clapped at the end too!
This movie was awesome from start to finish, great to see Blunt and Gosling have some great chemistry in this and it's great that Gosling did his own stunts. It was also nice to see this all being shot in Sydney too all the way here in Australia!
2024 is the next 2014 i hope lol.... let's see we already have Love Lies Bleeding, Dune: Part Two, Monkey Man, The Fall Guy, The First Omen, Abigail, Godzila X Kong: The New Empire (yeah it's dumb fun), Civil War, Late Night With The Devil, The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare, Challengers, Arcadian, Boys Kill World, Musica, Exhuma, Unsung Hero, Ordinary Angels... Fallout (TV Series), Shogun (TV Series) Kung-Fu Panda 4 & Ghosbusters: Frozen Empire also is not bad for me... Wow so far 2024 is amazing
The Rundown is actually the only Dwayne Johnson film I enjoy. I think it's the one film he's done when he was actually the least "The Rock" in it, compared to his other films. Plus the fact that he was in a buddy comedy action film, where he is the guy constantly getting worked over and made fun of during the wacky events, helped to make it more enjoyable. Plus I think he and Sean William Scott just had REALLY good chemistry on set. The comedic timing between them, the banter, the overall tone and mood of the two of them, it felt really effortless. I could do without pretty much every other Rock film he's done, but The Rundown? Yeah that one is gold.
This movie is suppose to be a love letter to stuntmen but it's really an afterthought when the credits roll. Even as a romantic comedy they could have had a scene showing how it is to sacrifice so much for a movie and not get any of the credit.
I'm not doubting it that people clapped but every movie I've seen in theaters audience never clap, cheer or hear cry. Guess I live in a conservative town 😂. Excited to see this movie.
lol, thank you. i was starting to wonder if it was just me too. I've never heard a theater audience clap before and it makes sense, its not like the actors/movie crew is there to hear the applause
From my experience, it happens most often when Andrew Garfield makes a surprise appearance in a Spider-Man movie, because it's now happened twice for me.
I've been excited for this movie since the first time I saw the trailer. I tried to get into an early screening but couldn't. I'm hoping to see it this Friday. I'm glad to hear is as good as it looks
Please watch and review Hundreds of Beavers. It's a super small movie that really needs and deserves the support. You always seem to advocate for that kind of stuff and it's such a unique and hilarious comedy.
Fall Guy was my most favorite tv series, when I went to Kindergarten. If I got that correctly, it was not as popular in the US as it was here in Germany. I am not sure, if I want to watch this movie or not, since the tv series holds such a special place in my heart.
Right, saw it this weekend and it felt like a summer movie, a bit silly, over the top but fun and yeah the love letter to stunt people. Also great chemistry between Gosling and Blunt. Worth the watch
This movie was surprisingly very good! The stunt work and the practical effects were top notch. Stunt actors absolutely deserve their own Oscar category!
I was a big fan of the TV show The Fall guy this movie of course has nothing to do with the show except for the name, the truck and the theme song at the end. The Fall Guy movie is more of a romantic comedy. Even with the action scenes it's not worth seeing it at the cinema this is a Netflix and Chill type of movie. Alcohol required.
Went to the the movie...enjoyed. The one really sham part was Regal ran 30 minutes of trailers/commercials before it started. Ask the manager and his feeling was we're probably going to see more of that.
Some of my favorite Ryan Gosling movies that he's in are: Blade Runner 2049, The place beyond the pines, Drive, The notebook, Gangster Squad & Crazy Stupid love. There are still others I need to see. Hopefully I can add this one to the list.
I got to attend an early screening with a great crowd and I had a blast. Definitely some flaws in the writing but the vibes were immaculate. And hey, I’d pay good money to be able to see Metalstorm!
I find that only if a movie has a grand scale do I feel compelled to experience it in a theater, whereas I used to just go to every movie that interested me. This is due to a number of factors, but is something that seems to be a prevailing trend. Will this encourage the movie industry to make more epic movies in a bid to restore the theater model? I'm waiting to see the first charging station drive-in be built.
can we talk about the every song used on some of the scenes? it worked for me, yes, even the Phil Collins song on an action scene was great to see. like watching a classic music video
Gosling certainly deserves all the great comments but let's not forget Emily Blunt is also terrific, especially when having a good scene partner. I'm really looking forward to seeing them together. I think they'll bring the best out of each other!
I watched "The Rundown" after hearing you say it is The Rock's most underrated movie. It was a thoroughly entertaining and clever buddy (or anti-buddy?) movie. Thanks!
I have only been this excited once before about a movie (fight club). I saw this opening night and it was definitely worth the time and money. Very fun movie with everything I like. I am sad that Ryan didn't sing the "unknown stuntman" song... that is my only complaint (and it is a big complaint).
This movie was great. Great stunts. Great acting. Great cinematography. Great humor. Great soundtrack. I expect it to bomb super hard at the box office.
As someone who loves film and like learning the ins and outs of it but also in appreciates a good funny story I really enjoyed this movie and I thought it was way better than I thought it was going to be
Hey, just wanted to drop a line if you read these, I appreciate your content and have pretty much seen everything for the last couple of years as you drop them. You do great work, and any content makers that say otherwise are simply just being losers. Even when they complain ABOUT you they can't seem to be enthusiastic about it. It's almost like they don't even mean it and feel like sellouts mid sentence for bashing for views. Anywho, congrats on everything and hope the new developments are smooth for ya. Stay up.
I loved The Fall Guy with Lee Majors! So, I was really hoping this would be good. I was disappointed that The A-Team never got a sequel. I really enjoyed that movie too even though I had some nitpicks. Another great series from Glen A Larson who did a lot of shows in the 80s, most known for Knight Rider.
Going in to see the film, I knew I would like it, but it still blew me with the visuals and the music. It is a marvelous blend of action and romantic comedy ❤
I was so sceptical but i saw it yesterday and it is so fun!!!! Ryan and Emily have great chemistry, pacing is great, stunts are great! Yes there r couple of minor plot holes (like how he had such a drastic fall but in 18 months he is falling and fighting?). But still it was worth movie ticket!
