Watching the leaves fall is so beautiful, it's not something we get to experience in Sydney Australia and of course watching Cali running around in the leaves made me smile.
I grew up without a Dad around and now that im older and watching your videos it almost feels like im a kid just silently watching my dad work, taking in all the knowledge and thought of being constructive. Just watching you quietly work and working things out in your head make just want to be a sponge and obsorb all the knowledge i can from you. Thank You for that Shawn. CHEERS🍻
Your home is stupendous. Looks so spacious and comfortable. Lighting is subtle and the whole thing looks so embracing. No matter how much we progress, there are those of us who will always hanker for our roots. You, Shawn, have created a slice of heaven. TFS. Woof to the golden one!
At the beginning Cali was in the forest we could barely see her the colours matched perfectly . She is so playful then we saw her again as she was moving around. She is such a beauty and loyal companion.
Mr. James, I watch all your videos everynight before bed. My mother who recently passed enjoyed watching you too. Thank you for making all the videos for us to enjoy -Jesse From Tennessee, USA
I was born and raised, and mainly lived in the Chaleurs Bay area , we have lots of woods, lakes, rivers, and the beauty of the bay, but it never gets old, I'm still always amazed at it's beauty and all the beauty of areas like that anywhere in the world, I can't live in a city for long! Lol! I need to come back home to the beauty!
The leaves and trees are so beautiful. Those orange chairs look to be quite comfortable. Comfort in a chair wins every time. The cabin looks better with the addition of the two chairs.
I can't thank you enough for all the videos you have posted with the rest of the world! I am an active duty soldier about to retire and this is the life I would love to be when I retire!
Although I sometimes become anxious watching you work because I want to help you grab something or give you a hand, the channel remains one of my favorites. So subtle, organic and a masterful taste for the nuances of life.
Man oh man do I miss those colorful, falling leaves. Up here in the higher elevations of the Rockies, nearly everything is coniferous. There are a few hardwoods but not many and some of the undergrowth changes color, but not like that. I'm originally from back east in the mountains of Pennsylvania and when autumn rolls around, I do get a bit homesick for those colors. Enjoy the season Shawn. I'm just a tad envious. ;)
Such a beautiful time of the year, the magic when the leaves let go with their rustles. What the earth gave to the trees in spring now returns to the ground, and soon it will be crunchy, then frosty. You caught the beauty of The Fall perfectly. There really is no other channel quite like yours. You are an artist with camera and editing. The sounds were lulling and a little exciting too. Winter is not far away. You will catch the beauty of that season as well. You are very good at making us feel what you feel, from the oppressive heat of summer, to the perfection of an autumn day when you just want to play, to the gravity getting the better of leaves letting go of their branches. You are one of my heroes.
I remember reading Bradford Angier when I was Fifteen-years-old and how he thought he could never have enough fire wood for the cabin. It’s never enough. Happy chopping! MG
your intro immediately put me at ease and I could just about breath the fresh air. Thanks so much for what you do for all of us stuck in the concrete jungle .
Where can I start! The stacking of wood took me back to my childhood. We had a wood stove in the kitchen and our woods provided an abundance of wood. After it was cut to size, my job was to help stack it. Love the fall colors with Cali in the background; here in the Midwest, the trees are still mostly green. Keep up the great videos and thanks for the memories, including the outhouse.
In watching you work in this video, it took me back to my solitary work on my 5 homes and grounds through the years. There is an amazing fulfillment in being self reliant.
Shawn I don’t know what your goal is exactly but what you have done with that property is nothing short of amazing. I look forward to you videos and accomplishments.. what a talent you have!
LOL! Orange chairs! Retro...Not just for All Hallows Eve! Happy you reminded us of that tree to come down...And thanks for making the time to share again!
We have really enjoyed watching the progress you've made. Love the music in the beginning. Always gets my toe tapping. Also, we admire how you're living. You are already where we are working to get to. Enjoy your cozy home, and all the costs you "don't" have to pay living off grid. Good for you.
I'm saving up to live the EXACT same life, only in the Bulgarian mountains. These video's inspire me to work harder, make more money so i can do the same! Thank you so much for sharing all your amazing content!
Hey Kiwi! :) I'm documenting the journey how you can go from a city life, to a "off the grid" life :) Once i start my first video's (already shot a bunch, but need to edit them) i will share them over here If that's oke with my self reliance of course :)
And again.....31 people came here to dislike for no reason, I feel sorry for individuals that have nothing better to do. Thank you Shawn, once again, for sharing what you do.
GR8 Outdoors I think those people are gelouse they want the attention Shawn is getting and they can't get it they are poor sports it's just what I think
Last video i said the same thing. What's not to dislike?..is it the outdoors they don't? Is it the manual work they dislike..? I would like to have time to creat everything he does.....id rather do things myself then to be catered too......awesome work you do...keep the videos coming
The cinematic experience is getting better and better. Your skills with camera work and editing are very impressive, especially considering you are doing it between lots of building work. Thanks for taking us on the journey again! Love seeing the autumn colors, if you could upload some stills or photographs with the quality of this video and last video I'd have a new PC background 100%
Watching on a big screen this morning. Stunning autumn imagery and so much more detail of your amazing work. A beautiful and forgiving time to work outdoors. Thank you, your wife and Cali. God bless.🐕🐾🍀
OMG! Canada is such an incredible place you can experience all 4 distinct seasons! i live in place where its summer 99% of the year. i will do anything to live there, just wow!
the fall colors are stunning such a golden light to everything. wood all stacked up before the rain, and all those chairs need are a couple tanned deer hides and your golden.I don't think there's a better time to work in the woods than fall, enjoy every minute of it Shawn.
May the God of all gods continually be glorified through the beauty of the land on which your cabin rests. The landscape is remarkable, the leaves are like a multi colored canopy on which an artist brilliantly paints captivating scenes of nature's own sacred melodies. Thank you!
I thoroughly enjoy your videos and this one in particular. It reminded me of my early teenage years chopping and stacking firewood for the winter at my father's command. That was in the Laurentian mountains in Quebec. I'm 62 now and living in the deep south of the USA. Thanks for a great visual reminder of the simpler days! Even though it seemed like work back then, I'd happily volunteer to chop and stack just one more time. watching the video, I could almost smell the wood, the fall leaves and the mist in the air!
Beautiful update at the cabin! The upholstered easy chairs inside are some different from what you had going into winter last year! Somehow, it is always sad to me to see autumn leaves falling!
Shawn: It seems to me that you build things for your Great-Great-Grandchildren's future use. This of course is a good thing. 😊 BTW - I'm not much of an animal person but Cali is worth her weight in gold. She is a blessing to you and I truly admire your relationship with her. Give her a hug for me.
I remember growing up on the farm helping my dad cut, split and stack firewood. We had a woodshed about that size that we had to fill for the winter every year. So I feel your pain. 😊👍
Another Steller video 📹. Loved every moment. Hearing my much loved sounds of wind/rain rustling the leaves, was sheer bliss. There's absolutely nothing that can be compared to natures sounds. A fantastic combination of one man's skills and determination. Autumn leaves falling off trees to combine with sounds of wind/rain. Sheer bliss. Thank you Mr James... You are truly blessed.
As a respond to your other channel's today video, I would say that: Anyone who wants to quit his dream, means he is not living his dream in the first place.. Thanks for these beautiful videos and sceneries we get see!
I just subscribed to this channel yesterday, and i have to say that i already spend 9 hours watching your videos. Thanks for being a Inspiration to many of us! Greetings from germany :)
Definitely agree with what Logan has said. I also came across your channel yesterday and have two days off work. I've spent the last several hours watching your videos. Fantastic. Thank you for sharing.
You have become a great master of video. Thank you for having the patience to not only work but to film which I am sure takes 2 or 3 times as long. Just want you to know that it is appreciated and admired.
Beautiful capture of the abscission of the maple tree's. So magical seeing the leaves fall in what seemed in slow motion, and yet ended too fast. Thanks for sharing and capturing in space that time for such beauty! I so very much enjoy you and your wife's photography.
To soon old, to late smart! So wish I would have made the leap to true living as you have when I was younger. Enjoy your videos very much. Thank you and keep them coming.
i like the falling leaves with different color's so nice to see this in your video, thanks for sharing have a nice day and i know rain ,storms and snow will coming soon. the fall and winter are my favorite time of the year
An old lumberjack told me once, " you can judge someone personality by the way they stack their wood pile". You seem to be well organized. Have a great fall season Shawn.
I know you have not much to do before the snow hits, lol! This is the time of year to plant Garlic which takes little time and with all those leaves the garlic could have a nice protective barrier. This year I am planting Russian garlic as it is strong in flavor. Good video Shawn, thx for sharing!
I am on my 7th year living off-grid deep in the forest of Eastern Ontario. Your projects have been fun to watch but with that being said one lesson I have learned is that doing a job once and right the first time saves lots of hassles. Your projects are meant to make life a little easier so doing the job once makes time for all the never ending jobs that occur living this lifestyle. One big lesson, treating un-treated wood so it doesn't rot. Living in Ontario forests will rot wood quick. Bug love fresh cut wood. When all that wood you have used begins to disintegrate boy are you going to have fun trying to fix it all.
Thank you very much for all you do and for sharing with us. It’s nice to be part of it and see what’s next. Hope you can show us the work on the tree, and first snow fall. That will mark a a full year for me watching your work. Thanks again, from London, UK.
that slow motion footage of the leaves falling was just spectacular. Your woods are just amazingly colorful, hope we get some color like that down here this year. Keep up the great work.
wow---it just got cooler here in Arkansas, the leaves haven't even started to turn yet! But since we have had cool nights, it shouldn't be long. So beautiful up there!
Hi Shawn. Looks like your hand has healed up pretty good or at least good enough to work. Funny how time moves and we all tend to wonder where it goes. I keep checking your weather and how it will relate to mine. (Approx 375 miles south of you). I am however excited as usual for the fall weather but I am a little concerned this year as it has been a strange one for us all. We've had record rainfall, (60 Inches above normal), and I'm hoping that we don't get the same average of snowfall as that would be roughly 50 feet. We normally get between 3-4 feet of annual snowfall. I hope I'm prepared enough either way. I'm looking forward to this winters progress at the cabin seeing as you won't have to contend with the elements since the cabin is there. Seemed a little rough last year as I recall. Nice that Cali has her full coat on to assist in keeping ya warm as well just in case,,,lol. God's Peace and Blessings
Solid roof. That should last a hundred years or so Got that done just in time. It was cold and snowy here yesterday and heading your way Have a great week
