I prefer the smaller independent channels like yours such as Sarah-n-tuned, LHT Performance, SRD Motorsports and Fanatik Builds. They all just feel more personal to me and that is what works for me. Thanks for what you do, keep it up!
My policy with automotive channels is as soon as they get a "shop" I stop watching. There is something relatable to a lot of people about a person wrenching in their home garage..
My son sent me your channel about a yr ago bcs we're restoring an '87 & '93 300ZXs. We've disassembled both down to just the engines / trannys/ and wire harnesses left on both cars. The cars were in fairly decent shape ..no dents, bent frames, minor bits of body and undercarriage rust but they both run very smooth. By next summer we plan to resume both projects and finally paint and reupholster them. I'm in the process of moving closer to him and have to set up my tools and garage when I move, so we're currently at a 'standstill'.. But I totally agree with everything you said, and YOU & and a few other channels I have narrowed down for valuable info ..Thanks again! -Pops🦾

Hearing from the guys leaving the big companies is good, but they can only say so much. You are able to just tell it straight and that's what I have been wanting to hear. That's for talking about this subject. Oh, and yes...I did not care for the SR20 swap in the 300ZX. I watched the series, but never understood the reason for the swap. This is exactly why I watch your channel. When I click on a 300ZX video, I want to see the VG30 and someone that knows something about it. Learning about the VG30 is great and you provide a lot information and knowledge. Keep it going man!
The whole corporate "Line must go up" attitude always leads towards something commonly being labeled as "enshitification". Where the product will eventually begin diminishing in order to satisfy making a profit
Unfortunately, a lot of those large channels misinform people with wrong information. I remember Hoonigan stating that the minivans and SUVs of today would beat a stock 86/87 Buick Grand National, which is far from the case if they were both in new running condition. Racing any 3-decade old and poorly maintained car against a new car of equivalent horsepower is far from telling the truth.

@@Billy_Built Yes 💯. I also want to commend you for mentioning the 3000gt VR4 and how Throtl was clueless. *In NY, we had a 3000gt VR4 guru by the name of Ray Pampena.* He built legendary VR4s with 1000hp well over a decade ago.*
I remember watching the throtl vid when they revealed they were putting an sr20. I immediately felt disappointed all that effort just to make less power
I personally havent been as attached or interested to many of the builds from the bigger channels but alot of smaller channels have been having amazing and unique builds such as PrizzaMike or E30Joel i would recommend them to any car enthusiast who wants a more realistic and relatable view experience
I personally have been following prizzamike since his accident. His entire premise reminds me of what I used to know as the typical 240SX friends back 10+ years ago. 😅
As a guy who bought a 3000gt in 2000, and had a brother in law with a 300zx at the same time. I almost died when they swapped the engines in 300zx. I know its potential and how much cooler they sound than a 2jz. Also they have never done the 3000gt justice. Like anyone who knows jdm cars knows that the 3000gt vr4 is a way better more insane platform than anything else like mk4 supra. I was unbeatable at the track.
I mean you can like any platform you want regardless of which is better, but let's not lie to ourselves here, there is a reason the 2jz is as iconic as it is and such a loved and huge platform . It because its better.
@@zach.avenarius Not gonna knock the 2jz, but the main reason they were love and widely adopted is because they were the cheaper option that pumped mad power. The 3000gt was way too expensive for most hence why it really never sold. But the fact that a 3.0 L 6G72 DOHC 24v twin-turbocharged V6 is an insane motor. It makes mad power stock and with the car being awd meant it just got up and was gone before anyone you raced even gripped up. It was purposely built to compete with euro cars like the lambo and ferrari.

Bro. I can't believe you only have 3700 subs! You, and Trev, are my 2 favorite Z32 channels. Most in depth info from the 2 of you. By far. The throtl channel annoys me. I do like the guy they treat like a servant. The only z vid I even watched of theirs, was the teardown. And their attitude toward the car irritated me.

What makes automotive channels so good are the individual personalities putting in the work, not just the same safe/generic content over and over like what some channels are putting out. Also, Throtl really acting like the VG30 was everything that was wrong with the Z32, and then made theirs into, essentially, a worse S-Chassis. I’m all for lightweight and handling balance, but the Z’s aren’t poorly balanced cars, they just came from the factory with touring suspension and consumer-safe setups, like most cars.
when throtl put that sr20 into the z32 the only reason why I didnt get mad was because it was a 2+2. Had that been a 2 seater I would have probably felt some kind of way.
@@krazyd27 Dyno was actually suppose to be last weekend at my buddies shop event, but they decided against having the Dyno part of it.. it's been steadily 105+ degrees here. Going to try to get some draggy stuff going here at least. Just started dialing in more boost lately as well. Seeing 20psi now.
TBH I kinda like seeing people do stuff with the KA. It's got nearly the same displacement as an RB. local guy to me (trilogy performance) is making over 900 horsepower and running high 8's in his s13 coupe. with one.

Throtl has really been getting into Rb's and GTR's so im surprised they didnt at least put an rb26 in their 300zx. They chose a cheaper and easier option to get views as quick as possible.
The VG doesn't get support because it doesnt get "Hype". Sr20s, RBs, EJs, Ls, all get hype. Im gonna start doing RU-vid videos on my 300zx to give the car support.
I know right!? I really wish throtl woulda done a vg build. There are not any big channels usuing it. Like at all. I just feel like it would help the vg so much to just have one big channel do a video on it other than "this engine is too complicated"
Tbh the channels you mentioned have always felt similar to shows like Overhaulin' where the entertainment value is pitched at the masses rather than the actual enthusiast. Sadly broader audiences probably would get bored with the fine detail and enthusiast is looking for.
i think vin did a video, or maybe it was in a DDE clip. but some of the hoonigan guys moved on to other companies where they are working and just not making YT content
I could see that. Either way I think all of the hoonigan guys were great on their own. Shoot, I remember reading about Nadz, back when super street was popular in the early 2000's.
Jimmy Oakes said that he regrets putting an LS in his LS. He said it feels like a JDM Corvette now. Motor Trend is the other horrible corporation, leaving YT, and charging to watch everything.
I think I recall hearing the LS bit as well. Agreed with Motor trend I think they were best around 2012 when they had Finnegan and freiburger on RU-vid doing roadkill and engine masters.
@@Billy_Built Roadkill pretty much started it all, then MT told YT to take a hike, they would do it themselves. MT is only available in USA, the rest of the world is blocked. I have read that the MT channel is virtually finished now.
With your mindset, you claim you're not a purist yet you bash swapping the VG. But per you're thinking of "making sense" and 4 cylinders and 1 turbo being less than 6 cylinder and twin turbo. Then an LS swap would make more sense. 🤷♂️🤔 You seem soooo bitter about Throttl swapping an SR. MAYBE, let everyone enjoy their own projects and stop bashing them!! I actually started watching your channel because I was impressed with you working on your own car (build, tune, etc). It was fun to see other options that could be done to the VG. Your channel popped up because I was researching the G30-660's. I have built 4 Z32's. 1 making north of 1k HP. Each one had it's own purpose and reasons for every part added or swap done. You changing out almost every bolt on application for the VG pretty much goes along the same lines as someone swapping the motor. Either leave it stock and go ahead shame everyone else. Or just do your thing and let others do theirs. 🤷♂️
I guess I'm just too ignorant to know better... With regards to the channels you discussed, I have no idea who they are... never heard of them... never watched. I only watch SavageGeese, LegitStreetCars, Throttle House, occasionally U-Drags on Edmunds, Haggerty (when Randy Probst is on it) and of course, all the Billy Built videos. Well Done.
It's better this way I'm sure.. Thank you, sir! I'd say throttle house is definitely going through what I have described here, of those you have mentioned. To keep it simple I didn't include them, I also don't pay much attention to that channel.. But I'm definitely liking legitstreetcars..
Let’s be real, normie jdm enthusiasts don’t care about what purists think. I know that throtl’s build is somewhat controversial but it could’ve been a lot worse. Atleast they didn’t put an LSx in it with a dumbass kbd bodykit on it. Ultimately, Throtl’s build was at the mercy of their major sponsor which was greddy USA. They didn’t build that Z for the z32 community. Unfortunately the VG community is somewhat niche and the engines have never had the greatest reputation amongst the rest of jdm enjoyers. Most people don’t know about polar engineering and the other companies who are still innovating parts for the VG.

@@Billy_Built which is obvious. I'm assuming you've had bad experiences with SR's? My last 2 SR's with the VE heads have flow rates similar to the K series. And this way I'm staying with Nissan parts, and full swap parts readily available. Nothing 1 off custom like a k swap would need. 🤷♂️
