So much yes to the “before I found my style” videos. I almost always think they’re just wearing what was trendy at the time, and what they’re dubbing their “personal style” is just what is trendy now.
Definitely! I don't know where I heard it but someone told me once, "comparison is the death of individuality". I wear what I want and don't give a fig about trends. I wear my skinny jeans inside my riding boots for fall and don't care if that labels me as "millennial" (cause I am and I don't care). I wear my high-rise jeans because they give me more confidence. Cause girl I lived through the Britney Spears low-rise jeans and I have no intention of trying to "fit with the trends" when I don't feel confident in those types of pants. In the end, wear what makes you feel good.
The concept of unique personal style is honestly lost on fashion Tik Tok, it seems. Whenever there is someone who HAS a cute, unique fashion perspective, they get copied and everyone just looks the same. It’s sad that people feel pressured to dress a certain way because it’s trendy :( . We all live on a space ball, wear the things you actually want and enjoy wearing.

i agree. you dont have to follow a specific guide book for every outfit. of course you dont necessarily have to abandon every guideline but if youre just blindly following and copying you probably wont develop a truly unique personal style (if thats what youre going for though then nothing wrong with that of course) but when i say this i have to say i dont think rules like "light light dark" and the "sandwich method" for crafting outfits are bad. in fact i think these can help people who are trying to get into fashion a lot-- im mostly thinking about specific pieces that everyone feels pressured to have in order to make the outfit 'good' and trendy or elevate the outfit from basic to simple. especially those instagram fashion content creators whose outfits are just white shirts and baggy jeans with different sneakers for each video ☠ and they always talk about how skinny jeans are so despicable they deserve to be banned from every inch of the earth? (honestly this skinny jean hate is also a trend at this point) adding on to this i think this is why eg NYC compared to eg Tokyo, NYC fashion is much more trendy and formulaic, while Tokyo fashion has much more form and shape, and people arent afraid to push the limits. idk if this is a fair comparison or not but i think these two are the biggest pop culture fashion centrals in the world rn, and i see sooo much more diversity and creativity in Tokyo streetwear
I agree that people shouldn't feel pressured to wear certain things but I think more often than not people are just excited about new trends and they want to participate. Which there is nothing inherently wrong with (as long as it doesn't involve buying a new outfit every week).
These creators are getting copied or more likely than not, are getting bullied and harassed relentlessly for having a unique fashion POV. I think back to the harassment that tinyjewishgirl or Anna Golka Yepez have received - essentially receiving death threats for pairing two unexpected clothing items together. TikTok audiences want the veneer of unique personal style without being different from what’s popular, because anything out of the most generic ordinary will get the mob after you due to the algorithm that encourages harassment :/
i also want to point out that “microtrends” are honestly only a thing in larger cities and more affluent areas. living in many small southern rural towns, fashion trends last 5+ years and people are much more frugal and less likely to spend on a “trendy” item since that isn’t the standard here. people have less disposable income and less emphasis on fashion in general. no one keeps up on fashion trends and it isn’t the norm in 90% of small american towns and communities. this seems like a new york and LA issue to be honest.

I'm from NYC and none of these things even exist lmao. No one dresses like this in real life. Currently in high school and everyone just wears jeans and sweatpants with the occasional emo kid but no one actually dresses like this irl. And when I visit my family from Ohio everyone dresses the same as people from NYC, sweatpants and jeans and the occasional emo person lmao (I'm that emo person)
I’m from Stockholm Sweden and I used to live in Utah and I’ve been to several bigger cities in the US like NYC, Dallas, Chicago etc. I think people here in Stockholm care more about trends than Americans if you look at what people wear on the street. Working class people like myself make about double the income here than in the US so maybe that’s part of it. Middle income is way lower here though so people like that tend to spend on work clothes and buying an expensive apartment rather than trendy clothes. Mostly teens and 20 something’s living with their parents wear the TikTok trends here, but maybe this is the case for most countries.
One trend I am starting to despise is dressing based on the color theory. I know it is very helpful but sometimes, I just want to buy something coz they're cute, and then this other person would say, "that's not your color."
This, and I bought a top last month that is supposed to totally not be my color based on the color theory, and I get tons of compliments because the color looks so good on my. I also sway between seasons depending on the season and the light. I stopped caring, as long as my clothes are cute and go together I'm fine.
I love colour theory because it helped me understand what looks good on me, but I think people take it too far and make it too strict. Same with Kibbe body types, I will defend this system with my LIFE because it's so helpful but some people treat it like it's law and it's not! It's just a tool, it's supposed to help you, not limit you.
Colour theory terrifies me! I have a faint idea of what season I am, and I'm constantly obsessing over if the colour looks good on me and if colour theory experts will think a colour makes me look sallow or far too red in the face... 😢

Although millennials mostly grew up in weird cluttered houses, that’s where the switch came up, literally what this video is taking about. It goes from clutter, colour and maximalism back to minimal and calm. We all needed our own little psych ward after growing up in the 80s and 90s too 😂 Do really appreciate others more busy houses though.
one of the things that irks me so much about fashion pinterest is that under nearly EVERY single photo there's someone asking what "style" the outfit is. i hate that we've become so conditioned to view fashion through this tiktok-ified lens where everything must be neatly labeled as some marketable, searchable "-core" or "-girl" aesthetic and we can't fathom the idea of someone dressing in a way that is actually personal and reflective of their own style.
on a related note i've started calling my outfits "clothes that are in my closet"-core lol. partly just because it's funny to me and partly because it really encourages me to play with the clothes i already own and i feel like it keeps me from being sucked into the trend vortex

@@Bubaiel I mean, if I like the style of the person and I want to see more examples of similar style, my first step would be to find their Instagram account. This way I can see other ways they are styling their clothes and other people they are following who may have similar style. So "who is this person?" may be a better question than "what style/aesthetic is this?" But that circles back to Pinterest's users horrible tendency to not attribute the photos to the original authors. I only recently discovered the fashion side of Pinterest and how normalized using this platform is, because I know that artists absolutely despise it for that very reason. So for me what you're describing is just a limitation that is built in Pinterest as a platform.
what I hate about pintrest is the algorithm has decided what I like and not showing me anything else. I want to use pintrest to see new things, but no matter what I search it's all just different variations of the same vibe (also obviously the AI spam makes it unusable)

Something I love in fashion more than anything else is when someone dresses like a cartoon character. As in the wear the same thing every day. Not literally but like for example the green lady of Brooklyn, ppl that exclusively wear 50s fashion, goths. Just finding your style and sticking to it is so fun. Personally tho I do bop around decades and play with gender expression so still not in my cartoon era lol

i do this a lot- if i like something, i buy the same thing in 2 other colours. unfortunately it gets quite boring for me because then im essentially wearing the same outfit in different colours- so i'm trying to find new pieces to mix and match- but my friends always enjoy seeing me in my "signature" outfits. i've been told many times that it's cute that i always wear something similar, because the outfit is very "me" , which i think is sweet and I actually enjoy, but i definitely need to go out of my typical 3-4 outfits hahaha
My boyfriend said something similar about "what are you going to think when you look back at pictures of your outfits ten years from now" and honestly, even if I think I look ridiculous, I'll probably find it funny. I'd rather look back at fun outfits that look wild, knowing I was having a good time then, than at outfits that are "timeless" that I wore just because I was afraid of being laughed at in the future.
This! this! this! this! I have had a couple of phases with alt styles. when i got into visual kei (like punk goth and scene had a baby. That's a poor description but close enough) I DIYed a LOT and even though they were poorly made and I no longer want the style on my body I still love looking back at the few photos I have of then. I look happy in them! I still like the look when it's styled well it's just not my fashion goal anymore.

The marbled dress has to be my favorite microtrend. It looks so outdated now but I’ll always love color marbling. If it’s done right, it looks like the ocean or a gemstone. I’m kinda hoping it can make some sort of comeback.

I'm so sick of "cores" like so so so over it. I go on Pinterest and everyone's like "whats this style" and there's people in the comments collaborating to pinpoint the exact style and item. It's yucky to me because first of all go to a thrift store or at least go find something on your own that's not fast fashion, stop trying to fit into a "core" box, it's like everyone is trying to copy copy copy and not find things themselves FOR themselves. I reeeeeaaaallly want to grow my wardrobe and accessories collection but I don't want to have it poisoned so to speak by micro trends or forcing myself into a "core" box, it's unoriginal and unsustainable.
It's frustrating too, because now that every clothing item is labelled as some sort of core, it feels like you HAVE to know what aesthetic its from in order to find anything similar. Searching for clothes you like feels impossible without having an aesthetic attached to them nowadays, which just viciously repeats the cycle that you're talking about. I think there's a couple 'cores' that are actually quite alright, like "cottagecore" because its less about the actual items of clothing and more about the vibe of them all together- and I feel like its broad enough where pieces from that category can still be used in other outfits, but there's some overly specific "aesthetics" that bother me so much. honestly, even cottagecore, i feel like i'm biased towards it because it's an aesthetic i've ALWAYS loved, but could never quite place, so maybe it's just one of those things i'm happy was labeled to make it easier for me to find things that relate to it, but in general, labeling clothes as specific aesthetics definitely feels alienating and makes it impossible to shop.

Re: your "pinterest burnout" type comment and people complaining your outfits aren't "exact enough"- Something thats stuck with me ever since i heard it was something Katie from StealTheSpotlight said fairly recently, and she said something along the lines of looking elsewhere than photos of other people for your personal style inspo, like in tv/movie/cartoon characters, dolls, etc, and ever since then i have found myself researching and referencing my childhood favorite Bratz dolls and saving them as inspo instead and its helped me curate my own identity so much! Something i find that also helps me is whenever i see an outfit where i DO have an exact piece or two, I will save it to my fashion board but immediately "star" it, and whenever i need to ready an outfit i will immediately filter my board to just my "starred" outfits and it keeps me from doomscrolling and hating my closet so much!
This is lowkey the best tip imo. Most of my style inspo comes from the books and movies I loved as a kid and it’s way less exhausting than having to endlessly scroll for an outfit idea

Another tip i love is that I also try to trick my algorithm into feeding me flatlay/collage style outfit pics rather than actual people photos, so I'm not even tempted to try and decipher whether I love the fit or just the person's vibe/looks while they wear it

I am in the same boat. Just turned 30, I’m pregnant with my second, and finally feeling like I’m figuring out what I like/ want to wear. My goal I wrote down at the beginning of the year was to buy good quality clothing and wear what I want regardless of what is ‘flattering’. So far it’s the oversized clothes in linens and 100% cottons, elastic/ drawstring waists, and fairly neutral colours. But I do love a ‘trendy’ piece every once in a while. But I’m buying it to last, not just wear a few times and toss.
i am 32 now, with 2 children. and the 2nd one is the Same challenge for my identity and Personal style as the 1st one. i am pretty Sure, i'm through with that now and settled again. and i love it. but it's a huge adjustment

That sounds so strange to me. Like whenever I hear "Pinterest girlies" and such, it kinda leaves me baffled, because - Pinterest isn't a popularity-based social network?? It's cookie-tailored personalisation through and through. I'm probably in some completely different corner of Pinterest because when Alexa pulls up an image from Pinterest it's something I've never seen before
Honestly, I'd rather look at my past outfits thinking "Yeah, I don't like that anymore, but it was fun at the time" than suppress everything unique about my personal style out of fear of looking "outdated". Looking back at a micro-trendy, but fun outfit seems better to me than looking at a basic, boring outfit you didn't even like, but wore not to look "cringe" years later.
Totally agree ! I look back at my past outfits and I feel so much love for how much love I had for them back then. I'd never wear them again now, but seeing photos of myself KNOWING that i loved that outfit when I was wearing it makes me ecstatic

I think the only reason I sometimes look down on people who always dress trendy is because I feel like it's really shallow and they only care about being perceived as being "cool" and not for who they really are. Yeah, it takes some time and a lot of energy but it's definitely worth it to find your own style and learn to love yourself. ❤

I watch a lot of historical fashion /historical research youtube and the thing is both trends and micro trends are sort of a constant in humans playing with fashion. Micro trends 100, 200 years ago were what was trending in one particular city or region that outsiders would notice while visiting. Meanwhile trends were concepts that made it into publication and spread out further then a specific area, often stopping in influence at some upper limit of similar cultures like similar trends. The internet has jailbroke the regional micro trend; now it can instantly become a world-wide thing with minimal effort compared to the intentional marketing effort that use to have to be invested to accomplish the same thing.
i have a knack for predicting these trends, and I HATE IT. Sometimes I think something would be cute and unique so i indulge ! Most recently was bloomer shorts! i got some before they came huge/ saw them constantly on pinterest. I love the shorts but i feel like sometimes my look is cheapened cause it doesn’t look like my personal style, but like i’m mimicking pinterest girls. I still love the shorts but now there’s the fear that people will think i’m dressing outdated once it inevitably dies. I know it shouldn’t matter what people think, however I cannot stand the bullying of previous trends when so many people build their style off of them.
Literally same. I bought my absolute favorite ballet flats years ago and have completely worn through 2 pairs I was so excited that I found a style that works so well for my lifestyle and tastes. i think people have forgotten that Inspiration doesnt mean direct copies.. i ADORE pinterest, but half of the clothes i pin i dont actually like. i just like the way theyre styled and want to style my own (very different) clothes similarly :3
Finding my personal style has been really hard. I wind up just wearing a ton of basics because I feel like they’re the only things that look acceptable on my body as someone between straight and plus sizes but doesn’t have curves in the “right” places
I think trends and microtrends are just items more publicized than others... It catches my attention... and in the case I like it, I probably gonna buy it and wear it even if the trends fades very very fast. If a trend is not my cup of tea, I don't feel compelled to wear it, or even to like it ! So simple :)

Compared to when I was in my early twenties (prime time for figuring out your style I think), people are buying waaaaay more items to fit the mold of a trend as well. It's almost cosplay at this point.
I would recommend finding fashion inspo from things OTHER than clothes too! For example, last summer I remember ribbon jellyfish were trending as decoration, and then a few months later, heavily layered sheer skirts and tops were trending! Have fun with what you’re trying to go for! Art is a mimic of life, and it applies to fashion too :)
Something I meant to mention! So many trends have already happened and they usually come back (sometimes in a different way). People were saying jorts are a micro trend and yes maybe the specific style everyone is wearing will be deemed “outdated” in a year, but it’s literally denim shorts 😅

So much this. I have a pair of the silver leather onitsuka tigers from about 2005. I was wearing them back when I was living in London and going to gigs. They’ve seen some things and they need new laces. I really need to get them back on my feet!
I think viewing fashion and any other trend through online spaces has the biggest impact on personal style because like you said, everyone does the same thing! I cannot tell you how many room makeovers I've seen turn completely white and use the ikea pegboard. I started moderating what was shown to me on Pinterest and RU-vid by removing posts on my feed that don't match my lifestyle/interests *at all* and looking for content that does. It helps paint a more accurate picture of my interests and values among the internet trends :)
I dress like a doily pretty much all the time, but I still like to see what other folks are wearing and admire their creativity and sense and culture! Micro trends I’m not fond of in the consumerism sense, but it’s fun trying out a new-to-me trendy way of styling pieces I own and trying on clothes (in stores that let me) that I might have usually not paid attention to. Trends are unavoidable in human cultures, and they define eras historically and are really interesting to think about in context. I love that fashion trends are influenced and formed around cultural events and factors like economy (flour sack dresses are beautiful and sell for ridiculous amounts now, but they’re literal sacks made pretty for struggling people during the Great Depression and onward), industrial innovations, wars (like the less-full skirts during American wartimes), social norms (women ‘getting’ to wear pants), etc. I think fashion history is belittled by a lot of people, even people who like fashion, when it’s super interesting!
Something that has helped me gain perspective lately is following fashion accounts with older women (40-60). Many of these women lean heavier into using what you have-sometimes in New ways, sometimes in classic ways. But it helps me identify what has stuck with me through different trend cycles. Heidi Clements has been one of my new faves!

I love this conversation! I was homeschooled and I think that really has a part to play in my independence concerning fashion. Growing up I wore outfits that was not on trend and were kind of weird but I look back on them and I only feel proud of the creativity I had! I also didn’t have much and had to borrow a lot from my sister haha but I would find interesting and different ways to wear everything! Even now as a 27 year old Im not very easily influenced with clothes and I march to the beat of my own drum. That doesn’t mean I think all my outfits have been winners but I don’t regret a single one. And i definitely partake in trends but I do it sustainably like you said… plus I’m too poor to do it any other way. I thrift and I think long and hard before buying anything new. Basically I’m a werido and because of that I have a strong sense of personal style 😂

Living in the Portland OR area, the Jadon Doc Martens were EVVVERYWHERE for the past, I don't even know, 8+ years now? Please anyone chime in if these are an everywhere trend, I think they are. I couldn't afford a $200+ boot at the time, but I did buy an on sale Steven Madden combat boot for like $25 in 2017ish and wore those things into the ground, they only lasted a year before they were falling apart from every day wear. But it also taught me that this was something I loved and would keep wearing, so my spouse bought me a pair of the coveted Docs for our anniversary. After loving those for a few years, and being a chronically cold-footed girlie, for this past anniversary he got me the same docs but the fur lined because I still frickin' love my basic PNWer boots. So that's my silly little story about discovering a trend I loved, maybe it's since passed, but I'm still enjoying and has become core to my style.

There was a split second in the late 90s when boxers as outside clothes were a trend I remember very faintly, getting yelled at by my mom for wearing underwear to school lol I don't see anything wrong with trends just be sure to thrift it and keep a revolving closet as to not contribute to fast fashion and pollution

I remember sewing up the front of boxer shorts to wear while I was in high-school. Funny thing is that this was back in 1988-89. Yes, it all has been done before.
I still dress like its 2020-2022 because that is when I really got into fashion (especially sustainable fashion). Vintage-friendly aesthetics like Dark Academia, Cottagecore, Coquette, and Old Money/Corp core (along with a little fairy grunge, whimsigoth, and downtown girl) all kind of have the same fundamentals and my wardrobe has different vibes for different aesthetics that have turned into the melting pot that is my personal style. Now the aesthetics are things that require only one particular look like mobwife, blokette and tomato girl and they are a lot less wearable, more fast fashion, and micro trendy. It has only gotten even faster. I am still into the blazers, highrise pants and crochet pattenes of 2020. The one thing I want to bring back from 2020 is the fashion.
somewhat unrelated but tiktok, micro trends and the rise of fashion content during the pandemic is what made me find my personal style! the micro trends inspired me to try out new ways to style my clothes and try out different styles!
I got three pairs of boxer shorts for this summer and have been enjoying them tremendously! They add a sort of sleazy, dyke-y flair to my outfits, and they're so-so comfortable. Definitely wearing them next year too!
I honestly let my possible purchases marinate TOO much 😂 because I'm always trying to find the eprfect piece and preferably 2nd hand and I never do. Like I have wishlist items that have been on that list for like 5 years 😅 Highly recommed you safe so much money. I also sew and refashion a lot of my clothes and that helps me stay on trend without buying nothing new (and I have a big fabric stash). Often I just take trends as inspiration to wear old forgotten clothes or rethink how I style an outfit, or to DIY a version of it, almost like a challenge. So many current trends are so easy to make yourself. Though i also understand not everyone has the time to do that. But you can always take the general vibe and ideas of a season's trend and try to recreate it with pieces you already have instead of going out to buy the trend. You'd be surprised how far your closet can take you!
I try to look back on my old outfits and not just think abt if it’s trendy or cool now, but also think abt if that outfit or style made me feel good or confident, I also love how I watched this video in boxer shorts I thrifted!
Maybe it’s the specific way outfits are put together that’s also a problem? Idk how to explain it, but I’ll have trendy pieces that I like separately but when I put them all together in one outfit, it’s immediately “too Pinterest” and I hate it Edit: I made this comment RIGHT before you made this same point lmao

Micro trends have me so paranoid cos I don't know if I actually like what I like or if I've just been influenced. Like Im pretty sure I want a platform boot because I like platforms but also do I or has the internet told me I do
I'm looking at completely switching gears with my career and going to school for something where I will need to be able to fit into a corporate-ish position while still expressing my personal style. Honestly, these tips also kind of help with this, too because I'm basically having to start over completely.
So glad I was too broke to afford any “cool” clothes when I was in school. And the one time I bought trendy clothes off shein it STUNK like chemicals so I never bought again (bad for the environment anyway lol)
The only micro trend I absolutely loved was cow print. My cat is black and white with spots and I bought many cow-print accessories to remind me of her (I’m obsessed with my cat yes). Never bought any cow-print clothes tho… thought it would be too crazy-cat-mom of me 😅
I don’t wear micro trends at all. I try to stick to things that I will be able to ALWAYS wear because honestly I cannot afford to follow every single trend, it can get very expensive from the clothes to accessories, hats, shoes.. etc. It can be pretty expensive to be super trendy because where I live even the thrift stores aren’t really good prices anymore
I use Pinterest to find inspiration for clothes I ALREADY own, like “oversized t shirt outfit” etc. Usually it helps me get ideas for the silhouette of an outfit, not for what I should buy
I think the need to fall into micro trends/be trendy shows the need of validation from others and the need to fit in a lot of people have. I think we need to learn more about loving ourselves how we are and finding what we love without outside influence.
I think the concept of micro trends is so funny because in a way the word “micro trend” is a micro trend because they used to be called “fads” but TikTok kind of changed that
I think what is often not seen in those discussions is the age and maturity of those who participate in the trends and those who don't. People who follow the trends tend to be younger, which makes sense, because they might still grow and need new clothes more often. They also probably have not found a personal style yet, because as you said: you have to try a lot of stuff before you can say what you like and what you don't. When you are a teen or in your early 20s it is totally normal to try things out.
I watched a really interesting video (I wish I could remember the creator's name) about the difference between being stylish, trendy, and timeless. It was interesting because her take on timelessness was that it was fashion and outfits that were hard to pinpoint to a certain time and place - like Carla Rockmore and Iris Apfel. Now I'm nearing 40 I think to myself, I'd rather be timeless than fashionable. I look back on my younger self and think 'that was an amazing outfit, you rocked that' and I feel like the people roasting themselves as they discovered who they are stylistically are being waaaaaaay too hard on themselves. Getting dressed/ fashion is supposed to be fun and it's a form of self-expression. How can you critique yourself harshly while you were figuring out who you were? 😢
I’m still thinking about the strawberry dress from 2020 and when I get my big girl job, I’m getting it. I don’t care if everyone has seen it. It’s just such a cute dress. I think trends are good for exploring your style and checking if anything that is popular can peek your interest. The way I work is that I take what I like from trends and I will probably still like it 2 years later, it’s just going to be part of my style. I just like specific aesthetics in general tho, not trends. I will look absolutely horrible in that jersey high heel sock look. It looks kind of odd on a 10/10 model so imagine on normal people. Like…. Is it a fit or are they just skinny lmao
I feel like most of this shit is just a result of being chronically online. Who, IRL, is actually going to care if you wear high rise or low rise pants? 99% of people I see outside on a daily basis are not wearing trendy clothes, they're wearing what they like and what's comfortable for them. That being said, it might also be different across different countries. I am in the Netherlands and Sweden most of the time. I couldn't imagine something like the Stanley cup or that stupid Crumble cookie craze happening in either country, while in the USA it seems like those trends are constantly taking over
I have body image issue and a lot of time trends make me feel really conscious about my body so I’m just trying to wear things that feel comfortable and that help me think less about what my body look like
I have been wearing baby blue and pastel pink paired with neutrals and an occasional red or pastel green since I was 14 and I'm never gonna stop no matter the trends.
I don’t mind the Pinterest photos of people pairing pieces that you wouldn’t originally think to pair together, because it exposes people to new ideas. It should be a tool for people to pull from their closet and make something new with what they have. Unfortunately, I think it causes people to run out and buy, buy, buy, to stay current. Your closet should reflect who you are, not whoever everyone else is.
my mom in her forties said that the boxer short trend was around when she was in school. it's crazy how people can say "oh, you're going to regret participating in x trend" but it LITERALLY is the exact same trend that happened 20, 25 years ago
I am a strong believer of buying what makes you happy as long as you at least give it some thought, and have the intent of long term wear. Not thinking what others will think, or what season will they fall out. 🎉
It is so important to be yourself and live by your own style. I have had to stop myself from being concerned about my skinny jeans. I’ve had to remind myself of how much I loved them when I tried them on at the Levis store and that has helped. I gotta also remind myself of how much I hate baggy pants. I really prefer form fitting bottoms but larger tops are ok. I have a pair of cropped mom jeans because I’ve always loved those and one pair of flare jeans because my sister gave them to me and I am satisfied with what I have now. I spent my WHOLE teenager's years with my butt cracks exposed, I am not going through low rise jeans EVER again. No thank you.😂 The only plus side is that they force you to pick up things on the ground in a safer way for your back of you don't want to expose your whole bottom 😂😂😂

I do think sometimes Pinterest hurts my ability to get dressed because I've become too reliant on it to put together outfits and I don't know how to do that without its guidance. But it's also because I'm putting too much pressure on myself to make every outfit just perfect, both for my own comfort and also because I guess I'm subconciously wanting people to appreciate it but also don't want to be mocked for being basic idk 😂 I know, it's stupid but it is what it is. I just struggle so much with deciding what to wear and how to make things in an outfit work and pinterest used to help me with ideas for that 😭 It did help at the time, especially to narrow down my personal style, but I think at this point it's just giving me more anxiety and trouble than help.
@@nitzeart honestly i feel like mocking someone for being basic is almost purely an online thing. like i have never heard someone in real life say something negative about an outfit just because it’s simple. so all of this is to say you probably look great, even if you feel like your outfit isn’t good enough
I also believe that the more you're exposed to something the more it will grow on you. So, getting bombarded with these trends and microtrends convinces you that you really like it, when in reality, you don't. You've just seen it so many times that you're like, "Okay. You know what. That is actually really cute. Maybe I do like it now." Then, you buy it and realize that its not really your style. Its hard finding you're own style when you're constantly exposed to so much as well. You have too many choices to choose from, and you just keep convincing yourself that, "This is my style. No, wait. This is my style." Then, it keeps repeating until you come to terms or figure out whats happening and how to resolve it.
Wearing something that only makes sense on tiktok is like wearing a t-shirt with a reference to a specific scene from a TV show. It definitely will look silly to people who don't get it but those who do will appreciate it
I’m super into gothic fashion because the whole thing with goths is consuming mindfully and the fashion style isn’t influenced by micro trends and marketing.
