And I think Andor is very good, but there's still people who don't like the show because it's slow, the thought of Andor being a "Masterpiece" only will be shared into the fandom with time, but The Clone Wars, from 16 years ago, is more popular and significant to the Star Wars fans, even the whole saga, than Andor, which is only 2 years old, and it's an own story, and doesn't have the same narrative meaning on the Star Wars franchise comparing to The Clone Wars, which was the only TV show which George Lucas wanted to have the same importance than the 6 first films.

Thor you just made the lightbulb go off for me. I knew something has been off with the Disney Star Wars characters and the answer is almost obvious, they dont feel like real people and the scripts don't allow them to be. Example, Mae needed a poison and went to the apothecary who just so happened to have the perfect poison for her, so its easy peasy, no conflict and we lose the opportunity to understand Mae better as a person. Now imagine if, for secrecy reasons, she had to craft the poison herself and we get a scene of her failing to do so a few times and she smashes the vials in frustration and rage, maybe with minor flashbacks to her as a child, scenes that reflect a similar rage that set her on this path. We can make her journey more challenging while also getting a sense of her inner turmoil in one short scene, all of a sudden she and her emotions feel real. We need glimpses into these characters to flesh them out, right now they just feel like tools for a plot.

Unless Disney intentionally pulled this stunt to make both sides riled up so that a) they could point to the out there fans and say "That's the toxic side, don't listen to them" or b) that they could use this controversy as a way to drive people to see and comment on it, to inflate the hype if you will

No one wants to be taken out of the show by political agendas and politically inspired creative choices shoved down our throats as fans. It taints the material when you know they are actively making decisions based on their political ideals; its really better if we dont know and just watch the show for what it is. And its truly ashame because I believe this causes fans to go into the show almost wanting it to fail from the start. I think I speak for a lot of star wars fans when I say that we just want good acting and compelling stories. I dont care if all the characters happen to be gay, or whatever. But when you have the showrunner and actors making comments constantly about this and making it the focus, I feel like they are completely missing the mark. I think if the show, in a vacuum, without influence of our opinions on leslye headland and comments made by the cast, really would have been perceived much more positively. I personally really have enjoyed the first two episodes and never at any moment felt any SJW type themes were out of place or in place just for the sake of a political message. The story has my interest, the acting feels on point, and it really feels like star wars to me.

Hey Thor, I had a thought while watching this video. Every year there are a lot of TV shows that get to the pilot stage and then aren't picked up. An executive liked the idea enough to fund the production of a pilot episode and then realized that it wasn't going to work. That doesn't seem to happen with Lucasfilm when it comes to Star Wars projects for Disney+. Yes there have been a number of cancelled projects, but the vast majority of those are film projects. The only show that was announced that has been cancelled before seeing air as far as I know was Rangers of the New Republic and that was cancelled because of the Gina Carano situation since she was supposed to be the star of that show and they fired her. Maybe the reason these shows have been so bad is that they aren't being held to the standard of regular TV shows. They're green-lit for full production before having to create a pilot episode to see if there's anything to them. They jump right from a concept on a page...and perhaps a few story boards...to $100+ million productions without any proof that the idea is good, the story is good, the direction is good, and all of that. Considering her position as the Executive Producer for all things Lucasfilm and Star Wars, that would be another nail in the coffin of Kathleen Kennedy's tenure running things in my mind.

I don’t want to give my money to something that I don’t like, but I still feel like I want to hold on in case there are things that are released that I really love, like Andor and Solo. So many different people put their hands on Star Wars that it's almost impossible to have a "canon" of what Jedi or Sith are supposed to be. Disney had the opportunity to take an established universe (EU) and trim some fat to make it into blockbuster; they instead decided to rebuild it from scratch with goals in mind, as opposed to letting it happen naturally like EU. They didn't care for the core values of the originals or any other content prior to their acquisistion of the franchise and the result is an incongruent mess of media with some occasional gems (not by chance Andor is the best Star Wars show, among other things thanks to the fact that it is not about Jedi or Sith).

I think another huge issue with Star Wars is the context surrounding the people who make these projects. So much of the discourse surrounding The Acolyte is politically charged, because the creator of the series is open about their political beliefs. Hey Thor. With the idea that true balance in Star Wars is the absence of the dark side, I wondering how do the Mortis gods play into that? Eventually the Son does kill the Daughter, when his father is no longer able to keep the darkness in check. Mortis highlights the futility of trying to maintain equal parts light and dark when one of those sides, the dark, seeks complete domination and destruction of the light. If nothing else, the Mortis arc in Clone Wars highlights exactly why gray jedi don't work and cannot exist. Allowing the dark side to take hold even a little bit only gives it room to fester and become stronger. You cannot allow a little bit of cancer to stay in your body in the name of balance.

Hey Thor, part of the reason I feel like Andor was so good is because it didn't go out trying to "redefine" Star Wars like all the other shows. I mean like look at BOBF or Kenobi trying to "redefine" the titular character and just retroactively making there stories worse. Or look at Mando season three trying to "redefine" the sequels it seems with the addition of force cloning and hints of the first order. And now it is said that the Acolyte will be "redefining" the force. Andor set out to tell a meaningful story first and foremost, and because that was the main goal i feel like it did redefine the character of Andor and the Rebellion itself. So i guess my question is this, do you think that Star Wars should be "redefined"? That if approached well and thought out that it could be done well and lead the universe in a new direction? Or if Disney should work more to stick to what we already have? Sorry for the long message and thank you for all the work you put into making an unbiased and informative Star Wars channel.
@dicsord-server
@dicsord-server 26 дней назад
I think you should keep the didn’t watch option in your polls. I think it will show the fall off rate for the show. Even though it isn’t your intention, people who aren’t watching out of spite who know they won’t like the show, will vote for the negative option (as they should, because in this day and age we see more than enough to know going in 90% of the time). If you limit the scope of the poll while HALF your audience doesn’t watch and possibly hates the show, for weeks or months on end, people probably won’t keep to the honor system of not voting w/o watching, because they want to be heard. You don’t have to listen, but doesn’t that prove my point? Isn’t silencing fans what Disney does? It is your channel, it is your choice, but you can’t control how others act by that measure. Please don’t divide the community.

In general I enjoyed the first two episodes. It’s yes too early to give an overall rating for the series, but here is my take on it. The first episode really needed to be longer. I would have liked a bit more detail about Mae before she went on her killing rampage (well not a rampage but you know what I mean). It could have spent about 10 minutes until it lead towards the first scenes when she went anger Indara. And there could have been some development of her as well before she was killed off (although I think we are going to see more of her in flashbacks). Additionally, I would have liked to seen the Jedi Temple before the first scene with them. Perhaps just a small scene to set up the characters before the actual plot started. I would say about 15 minutes setting up character development before the actual story starting. So I would say about an extra 20 minutes of the first episode was really needed. That being said, my favorite character is Master Sol. Even though he was learning English just to do the role, I think he did an amazing job to be able to fit into this role with so much limitations. That is a making of a great actor. I have also started to come up with my own theories, especially who Qmir might be and who the Dark Mystery Man with the red lightsaber might be.

Hey Thor, What do you think is better for story telling: thinking of a cool story and then making characters to fit it OR thinking of a great character and the growth they’ll go through and then crafting a story around it?

After Tales of the Empire I’ve completely given up on Star Wars, I’m a life long fan and I was an imperial officer and biker scout in the 501st. I stopped really caring about 5 years ago. But the inquisitors respecting a Jedis, they/then pronounce while they’re trying to murder him at the same time was the last straw. It made no sense and even my wife was confused trying to figure out who or what the inquisitors were talking about.

I gave it an honest viewing, and gotta say it’s not that bad. It’s easily better than book of boba fett and mando s3. I watched it on a third party site (yo ho yo ho). And if you’re still adamant on not supporting Disney, I recommend Shogun or Masters of the Air

For all those episodes, Andor managed to avoid awkwardly inserting cringe fan service like the "I have a bad feeling about this" line. Anyway about the coming episodes of the Acolyte: I have a bad feeling about this.

One criticism I find comical is people asking how fire is burning in the vacuum of space as if he haven't seen stuff like that in Star Wars since the original trilogy lmao

We haven’t actually. We’ve seen explosions but we haven’t seen sustained fires burning in the vacuum of space.
@TheGaboom
@TheGaboom 26 дней назад
To be fair, anything 'fire' in OT was more like explosions, which could be burning oxygen from inside whatever is blowing up before it dissipates. As opposed to open fire blowing in the breeze Since the fire doesn't really affect anything plotwise, It is still a pretty nitpicky thing to complain about Note Its fine to point out in any case - Minor flaws can add up after all. But I do agree this particular thing has been complained about enough that I kind of roll my eyes whenever I hear it

It's funny. A lot of the 49% will have no problem tuning into Andor S2, which means they haven't 'checked out' of Disney Star Wars at all, but they possibly have been turned off for other reasons. Which doesn't really tell us anything about the quality of the show.
@fusionwing4208
@fusionwing4208 26 дней назад
people look forward to Andor S2 because Andor S1 was regarded as pretty good, well received. People aren't watching newer shows likely until they are convinced its actually good, which says plenty about a shows quality if you ask me.

@@fusionwing4208I don't agree. I think people in large numbers on social spaces act a bit like lemmings. A lot of people didn't watch Andor at all until they were told it was 'ok' to do so by their favourite youtubers. The same people won't watch The Acolyte because this one isn't 'ok' to watch. Of course there are people who are just sick of Disney, or tired of the bland, soulless look, or of the terrible writing, or awful dialogue, but this new show was a big improvement on these elements, and if they're doing something right, it should be noted, otherwise we'll just continue to get slop.

I saw Star Wars, just "Star Wars," in 1977 when I was eleven. I think it's fair to say that I know what made Star Wars good, because frankly if my generation hadn't loved that movie and the next two as much as we did, none of you would be here. It wasn't because of our parents. Sorry not sorry, kids. 😉 What we liked were the space battles and countless imaginative vehicles we'd never seen must less imagined, droids and strange species interacting with humans, exotic locations with larger than life set pieces and the swashbuckling. When we played "Star Wars" we didn't care about the Jedi. The first person who called Han Solo was boss. Then Darth Vader. Luke was always the last choice. Of course the Skywalker story expanded we bought him, but we wanted to be cool, and Han Solo was. Solo was so cool that they had to cast Billy D. Williams as his rival. In the prequels, Kenobi served as the cocky swashbuckler with skills. It was the fun, not the philosophy. The force was cool, but we saw it as mostly having faith in yourself, empathy and not about magical "powers." We really did see the force as something passive that lived between a construct and Solo's claim it's just a religion. Now it's become something that ranges from Harry Potter magic to creating cultish divisions among the fanbases. Star Wars used to be well written enough with strong enough characters that we didn't question which side was right. Solo was the most ambiguous character and that only manifested in whether he could sacrifice for the greater good. He never once questioned what that was though. So where's the cool? Thor is right that the first movies had people acting like real humans. That's partly because it's how actors generally acted in the 70s: naturally and humanistic. I'd say Lucas's biggest mistake was directing the actors in the prequels to be so stiff. Especially the Jedi. Alec Guinness wasn't. He was cool too, always able to go toe to toe with Solo in their banter and come out ahead each time. He wasn't a stiff. Now the Jedi are nothing but. Now we have Ashoka making C3PO sound Shakespearean. Where are the interesting new vehicles, space battles, species and creatures. Where are the good and lasting droid characters, and I'm not talking about beeping soccer balls that pose as discount R2D2s, or those that see themselves as oppressed social classes. Where are the exotic locations and bewildering structures on unimaginable scales? Now we get generic , poorly detailed CGI mat paintings during new scene fade-ins that don't even live up to the standards of McQuarry's concept paintings. When Star Wars released it was an exact departure from the gritty movies of the 70s. It felt real, especially by today's standards, but it was also crisp, bright, vivid and every location was unique. Now every scene going back to RoS uses the same common monochromatic filters as in countless other movies and shows. Star Wars should never look like an Alien movie or something from the WB, which it seems we're getting a combination of. In summary, Star Wars should NEVER look generic and drab but that's all I see. Drab describes everything else about Star Wars these days. Bring back the fun. Bring back the imaginative world building and stop philosophizing about such simple things as what a dark and light side of empathy mean, and trying to turn that into a Harry Potter style of soft magic. Bring back freshness, which you can't do with endless prequels that by definition can't change what happen afterwards and which we've already seen play out (I mean, do you think Andor or Kenobi will make it to the end of their series with all limbs attached? I'm at the edge of my seat....). Adventure, space, swashbuckling, locations, droids/creatures, space, cool. That's how you get the franchise back on track. I think the first couple seasons of the Mandalorian help prove my argument, even moreso when you look at the third season's collapse as it tried to explore more of the Mandalorian culture and religion. As Harrison Ford suggested off camera to Mark Hamill, Star Wars ain't that kind of movie, kid.
