Hi y'all! I'm Rachel, a 22-year-old writer from Toronto. I've been writing for nine years and hold a BA in creative writing (with specialties in fiction and poetry). On my channel, rachel writes, I document my writing journey and try to post once a week (usually on Fridays).

It feels so validating to know you also write on your notes app lol. I fought so hard against that habit bc i felt like i wasn't a "serious writer", but now I've embraced it.. i just love how low stakes it feels. Being intimidated by a word doc is such a real struggle😅 LOVED the intro btw!!

ahh of course! I recently picked up the late (and great) Lee Maracle's essay collection and I believe she said she wrote the entire thing in the notes app! one of Canada's greatest writers! I also love how comfortable it is :) it just feels like fun! and also happy you loved the intro!!

Enjoyed the video! Cleanless is absolutely in my top five books right now. I relate to what you were saying about being happy for Reeve's engagement. I definitely have characters who I've had for a long time and who mean so much to me, and as much as I love writing conflict I also love when I can give them a breather. I recently finished a short story assignment for uni. I'm proud of what I wrote and I think I'm getting better at writing shorter pieces but it really took it out of me. It was a bit weirder than what I usually write too, but I decided I just needed to write the story I was curious about, and I think that's a big part of what made it good.

Another great video! 😊😊 I have been mourning the loss of my manuscript because the app I had on my Chromebook glitched and erased the whole thing. I'm debating on whether to start again, and in the meantime I'm trying a more stream of consciousness style for a different project (and a little plotting even though I'm a pantser through and through)

literally unable to write rn (it's been months rip) because my chronic illness is so bad. it makes me want to cry, my brain is not functioning at all and urgh. idk when it's going to change, if it's going to change, but trying to just do things that I'm able to and enjoy them rather than constantly wishing I could be writing - I've been crocheting hats over and over again which has been fun, and playing cosy games. I was going to learn to draw this year and try graphic novel writing but there is no way on earth my brain or body are in new information mode haha.

Yay! Welcome back! 😍 Wow! You’ve written so much! I’m so impressed! I’m in awe that SEVENTH VIRTUE and SUNLESS GROUND are so long. I’m such an underwriter. Long fantasy manuscripts intimidate me! 😂 Also, I love handwriting in notebooks so much. I’m glad you’re doing it, too. Something I got very used to doing when I couldn’t use my computer and back when my laptop wasn’t as portable. As someone who adapts my own work (usually pilot scripts into novels), I’m really thrilled by your poetry chapbook! And intrigued by it! I would love to read it! I’m in the process of getting my PhD dissertation novel, an Adult contemporary fantasy, ready to query. I think my synopsis and query are pretty solid. I just need to make the draft a bit longer, like 75-80K. 4th draft brought it down to 67K. Oh, and the anthology I’m in that was published last year by Page Street YA (BEING ACE: AN ANTHOLOGY OF QUEER, TRANS, AND DISABLED STORIES OF ASEXUAL LOVE AND CONNECTION edited by Madeline Dyer) is a 2024 Lambda Literary Award Finalist. So surreal. 🥹😭
