my Orange Pi 5 Plus arrived - I am quite shocked - the same SSD NVMe tested in old and new: On Original/Old Orange Pi 5: Timing buffered disk reads: 1138 MB in 3.00 seconds = 378.71 MB/sec On Orange Pi 5 Plus: Timing buffered disk reads: 4722 MB in 3.00 seconds = 1573.81 MB/sec That is simply: 4 times faster SSD reads - that is amazing performance. I was only testing Debian 12 so far, but I am getting there ;-) Nice to have separate M2 slot for WiFi/BT - not that I use it but in case - 2x 2Gbps LAN is perfect also in case one wants to have a router or Firewall I think market is really offering now better choice than before

Lee Thanks for the information. From what I read online, the main difference between the RK3588S and RK3688 is that the RK3588 has access to 4X PCIE bus which makes for faster IO speeds. Have a nice week.
I’m glad they added a screw mount for the NVMe this time. The lack of one on the original OPi5 was rather perplexing. The NMVe performance you’re getting is a bit slow. I’m getting 2.7GB/s read when using 1GB chunks on a KingSpec 256GB drive. If you’re getting less than 600MB/s, either your drive isn’t fast enough or you need to adjust the parameters of the test to use large enough file sizes.
@@ricardoaugusto2333 the NVMe drives I purchase always provide a screw, so I’m not too worried about that. It was the lack of a mount that was really annoying. And rather unusual, given that there’s an industry expectation that an NVMe slot will always have hardware to mount into.
The Orange Pi 5 Plus has been very fun to work with, and Xunlong still have more RK3588 products in development. Specifically, the Orange Pi 900 and tablet / handled using the same SOC.
my 2 OPi5+ are now in ... Customs ;-) I really have big hopes for them - 2x 2.5Gbps is something that finally makes it ... usable router/firewall or so ;-) I will also not cry if Plus is faster than the legacy one
You’ll love it. In my testing the OPi5 is marginally, but substantially!, faster than the OPi5. Single core went up 86 points in Geekbench 5. Multi core went up a whopping 298 points! I was also able to pull 2.7GB/s read and 665MB/s write on the NVMe. All *without* a heat sink. In fact, I’ve been running Stable Diffusion jobs non-stop and it’s held up like a champ. I don’t have any 2.5Gbit equipment to test with, so you’re on your own on that one. But even at 1Gbit, the dual NICs are a _nice_ addition.

i have 2 old Orange Pi's and they are so frustrating!! The boards are amazing but trying to get an os to work on them is near impossible! Granted they are old boards but still they lack the community support
@@leepspvideo i have tried many os's , i did manage to get it to run pi-hole for about a month and then it crashed, i have tried diet pi , lubuntu, and others i cant remember , like i said its a lovely board but lacking
I realized that unless you’re gonna review hardware and become a RU-vidr don’t bother buying these boards as they’ll release a revision or upgrade in less than a year. Has Organge Pi included hardware acceleration in their official OS for this board ? (not talking about the open source community work arounds).
Just ordered mine from Amazon 16gb ver. should be in sometime after the 10th of July. Don't know how much time you've had to play with it, I'm kind of new to all this.Which operating system did you figure to be the best for gaming and multimedia streaming, I would like to do the NVMe install. Don't know if you had time to play with the Bluetooth and Wi-Fi module. I bought a module as well RTL8852BE WiFi 6 AX1800 Network Bluetooth Card, from what I read on Wikipedia it's supposed to be compatible with all the operating system's. What do you use for game controllers what is your advice here wired or wireless. Any help would be a greatly appreciated, just trying to get ahead of the game before it comes in. I'll be looking for more of your updates!!
GPU is only 610 gflops. But it has a built in 6 core neural engine. Not sure how effective it is. Also, a 32GB RAM version will be released this month (Nov 2033). About $200.
it seems the only difference between the 3588 and the 3588S are the PCI Lanes and Generation..... I WANT the Orange Pi 5 Plus!! Tho I don't really have a use for it LOL ... But it's MUCH more powerful than the Rasp. Pi CM4 (on a host board with pci-e nvme) that I have now.... I can't remember if if the Rock Pi 5 can run the Playstation 3 emulator RCPS3 .... if it ran it well then it's a full fledged emulation machine and would be a REALLY SWEET Emulation Box that covers the full range of emulators.... Hrmm.... I think I might be able to sell my CM4 for the same price as the 16GB model with shortage still in effect LOL ... I would get it if it could run RCPS3 ... so I think I'll have to check - THANKS!!!
Yeah the S variant is the stripped down version so less I/O but same performance from the chip. Its great to see OrangePi make this chip so affordable as its double rewarding for consumers and also means more developers are able to obtain the board/s for testing, hence the excellent software support!
PS3 is out of reach for this machine due to the fact you need at least 6 core PC/Laptop processor to run it smoothly not to mention a GPU with at least some juice. There is also the fact that PS3 emulation have a lot more to improve considering there are still games that no matter how powerful your PC is you can't. Don't get me wrong Orange Pi 5 is powerful but not that powerful but my AMD Ryzen 7 5700x is a monster in comparison and it is far from the best CPU out there. If you are after emulation then I don't think there is much difference that Plus is going to offer you due to the fact that PS2 and older generation games reading and writing speeds aren't massive (cartridge, CD, DVD and so on). If my memory is correct you can play up to Wii and 3DS on it.
Hi Lee, How are you powering the plus in the UK? Specs say 5v4a but I can’t find any uk PSU of that spec and don’t really want to use a us/uk adapter. Cheers
I tested the crucial P3 plus Vs crucial P5 plus, I used your best of 3 method and here are the results P3 1820444 74135 49053 P5 2730666 78392 60681 A clear win for the P5, so it is worth investing for speed. The boot time on P5 is very good and overall the speed is great. I have a very particular use for this and will be testing further

I recently discovered the orange pi 5 after not being able to get a raspberry pi 4, Your channel has really helped me understand the orange pi 5 however there are a few suggestions I have and will really appreciate it if you make videos on them. 1. Does the Orange pi 5 support raspberry peripherals? (A video of you testing various Raspberry pi peripherals on the orange pi would be super nice). 2. In case the Orange pi 5 doesn't support raspberry pi camera modules, What alternatives are there to be used on the orange pi 5? 3. How easy or hard is it to use the Orange pi 5 GPIO? (Just a simple "You can control a servo motor with Orange pi 5 would mean alot to some of your subscribers like me") I know making content is a hard job, but if you can make any or all of the above videos, I'd be your happiest subscriber! you still havent connected a pi to one and checked the network traffic if it goes to chyyynnnaaa servers or not so its still a security risc like all chyyynaaas android box,s.
i have opi5 plus 16gb, case , microsd, Samsung SSD 980 NVMe M.2 500GB and i have installed Orange Pi OS(Droid) on microsd card. I don't know how to install it on m.2. Hardware acceleration is not working. I cant see smooth playback on RU-vid app or chrome , and on xciptv iptv also ! I don't know which operating system to install in order to watch perfect 4k60fps and streaming applications.
Thank you i have seen that video and all of yours video but i funny know which version of operating systems is perfect about hardware acceleration. Android droid can't play videos and streaming without drop frames.
Moreover i wanted to tell me if i have to have a micro SD inside the orange pi 5 plus in order to install on m.2 nvme the operating system. Thank you again.
@@jimakos75 it depends what os is on the eMMC. If it’s Linux you should be ok to use Raspberry Pi imager to write Ubuntu or Armbian. If it’s Android you may need to boot an sd card to update the boot preferences

After having the Orange Pi 5 plus 16gb for over a year I can honestly say this has been the biggest piece of garbage I have ever had the pleasure to own, I have read the manual over and over (sucks) the only os I could install was Ubuntu on the sd card, the emmc module will not accept an os, I have literally tried every method. I have had this turd over a year and Orange Pi does not return emails or provide any support. My recent fiasco has been to go back to the emmc module to try to install O Droid on the tf to load on the emmc. The tool they give you cannot even format the tf card. There needs to be clear cut instructions and stable tools that work for people to use this paper weight. Every process is so painful and always ab ends. Now all I want to do is smash it.
@@leepspvideo Thanks Lee, I tried that and have read the manualm10 times. This is how I found you on YT, I watched all the videos and have tried everything. I actually followed your Orange Pi 5b guide and just with the proper downloads for the 5 plus. Nothing works except for Ubuntu on a sd card. I am more angry that Orange Pi doesnt return emails or have any customer service whatsoever. These sbc's are expensive and not having support is criminal. I just dont want people buying these without knowing that some of these just do not work. If I missed something then it wasnt in the manual. Now I am stuck with a piece of crap $300 very frustrating. I will hang on to it until someone starts a service that loads os's on here. I am so glad I didnt wait for the 32gb model.
@@leepspvideo I have installed with rkdev tool on the emmc, if I look from gparted from a OS from my sd card, the emmc partitions are correctly written on emmc storage, but it don't boot. :(
