100% resonate with this . . . Ambition can be a devil in disguise if you stop enjoying the journey and you start making the end goal the main goal...and flow state becomes a figment of the imagination without focus...Perfect timing for this message / reminder...

You had me at head injury. I was also a high-performing athlete in my youth, completely focused on my goals, until I had a career-ending debilitating knee injury that not only ended my sporting activities, but ended all running, jumping and anything involving a squat. I tried desperately to come back, ignoring my doctors, and only injured my back and ankles, furthering my immobility. You describe EXACTLY what happened to me after I finally gave up my goal. I too had a recovery moment in college when I decided to become a doctor. With that goal in focus, I was firing on all cylinders. I was ultimately derailed and spiraled into a deep depression. I've been struggling to find purpose and a real goal ever since. While I've found a way to survive and create a decent life, I have never felt like I have realized my true purpose. Thank you for establishing this channel and sharing this information. This feels like it hits the mark for me, hitting a silent and invisible mark I have never talked about because of shame.

Maturing is realizing that life isn't about your accomplishments and goals. If you're not having fun on the way to your journey, you'll never reach the top. If all what you seek is that goal, you'll eventually question yourself for its worth and value, and slowly that dream dies because it was never yours. Your dream is the one which you find fulfillment and joy in, no matter how shit your day is. So looks like to me, that your doctor ambition was just an attempt to fill that gap in your ruined athletic dream. I'm not saying this to be a d-head, I'm hoping that I'll help you see things from a different perspective. I hope you can find something that you can seek joy and fulfilment in, because that's ultimately what matters in life.

Key points that i got from this video - Setting specific long-term goals aligns daily efforts with aspirations, combating aimless wandering. - Psychic entropy, a state of disorder in consciousness, can be countered by goal direction internally or externally. - Becoming goal-directed aligns actions with long-term goals, paving the way for harmony and access to flow state. - Expanding your "possibility space" broadens beliefs about what's achievable, driving extraordinary outcomes. - Self-efficacy grows with goal attainment, expanding the realm of possibilities for setting and achieving larger goals. - Purpose is more of a verb than a static entity, found by picking a problem to address rather than seeking a lofty purpose. - Clarity about your life direction is a choice, similar to ordering food off a menu; it's okay to pick even if you're unsure how it will turn out. - Reverse engineering breaks large goals into achievable steps, clarifying the tasks needed and setting a timeline for completion. - High hard goals, coined by sports psychologist Stanley Beum, are ambitious, long-term objectives that push individuals to grow and achieve optimal performance. - Goal-directed actions are tasks that directly progress you toward your goal, leading to increased productivity and creativity, especially when performed in a flow state. - The power-down ritual involves planning tomorrow's goal-directed actions, ensuring alignment with long-term goals, and clearing undone tasks to focus on priority actions the next day. - The goal-directed pyramid model integrates the goal stack, goal-directed action, and clear goals, providing a structured approach to achieving ambitious aspirations and living a fulfilling life.

Focus solely on completing the clear goals one-by-one without distractions Evening: 5. Review what you accomplished 6. Plan out tomorrow's 1-3 goal-directed actions and clear goals The key points: - Identify a few critical tasks linked to your larger goals - Break them into granular steps - Execute those steps in a focused flow state - Separate planning from execution each day This straightforward routine ensures you spend your daily effort on what matters most, guided by clear objectives, while allowing immersive focus for optimal productivity.

Actually the video helped me way more than the above summary. I won't blindly follow a summary of a concept without believing it and understanding how to implement it. I need to understand the "why" and "how" it all works, otherwise it's easy to forget, reject or fail to implement ... The internet is already full of "ChatGPT style summary" advice which few people understand, believe and implement. So I appreciate this video and the story of the creator's brother as well as an explanation of how we limit ourselves with our possibility space. Thank you!

@@opslts.6024 I studied complex systems for about 10 years now (which is something he mentioned in the video) and he's correct about it. It is advanced (the name Complex Systems should be a clue as to it's nature) I would recommend watching the whole video, and i would also recommend you do research into complex systems, which is where some of this language (possibility space) come from. It's defined correctly in this video, and the possibility space is alot larger than what's even being said in this video. Leading theoretical models suggest that the universe is like a Turing machine, and that the universe is computing all computable functions, therefor the state of what is possible, is technically "everything, and anything." Stephan Wolfram and his work is also a good place to learn more about the formal science that has been going on in the past twenty years. mainstream physics as cool as it is, is a bit behind, where fields like this have been leading the technological revolution. Neural Networks for instance, was not made by physics...that came from Complex Systems (which use networks as their formal tools).

I think this is well thought out and well structured. If someone were to do all of this, they would surely be successful in some capacity. The problem is, most people in the world are extremely lazy and all of the things outlined take significant work and brain power. Which brings me to the second problem, most people don't have the mental capacity to do what is outlined here and reverse engineering their goals in this way. If we are all being honest, it is the sad but true reality. This is unnecessarily granular and complicated for the average person to do, in my opinion. Someone watching this video already has no idea where to begin and probably little motivation.

I am so thankful that I stumbled on this channel. For some reason I cannot access the goal stack pdf (not receiving the email). I believe that this goal stack worksheet is exactly what I have been needing. Is there another way to access this free resource?

I'm lying in bed in the morning, knowing I should get up and do abs, because it's Tuesday, but instead I watch a guy giving me advice.

Why goal settings need to start by picking a problem ? For example: Becoming a rugbyman is a purpose that doesn't have a problem. When saying we need to pick a problem it seems to reduce the broadness of choice we have in front of us.

He said purpose is more about picking something than wating for something to pick you. And the easiest way to do this is to pick a problem. Doesn't necessarily have to be a problem to pick, but it's an easy way to choose. You can also pick becoming a doctor or a football player etc

You need to talk more about gaining consciousness, also please many of us are addicted to our phones. And mental and physical problems all together makes us very good advice giver but we can’t really take step out. I don’t think there’s any source teaches consciousness over internet addiction

15 is a helluva young age to have a mid life crisis. No wonder it was so profound. Having the experience of a 50 year old when you're not even 16 is bound to change you.

Sometimes the goals just keep reminding us of the bigger dream. We all have to work so hard and for so long to see the tiniest bit of progress. Hopefully I make it before the economy collapses 😂

Rian, this is phenomenal content. What's the difference between GDAs and clear goals? I'm a bit confused on this.

What would happen if a company was filled with people who live these actions towards the company’s purpose? It’s hard to hire these people to begin with, and harder to teach them in the framework of a company. So, how are they attracted to the company besides money (which is their and the company’s longer term goal)?
