"Once you start, you cannot stop." I have fifteen avocado seeds and there's already five avocado plants in pots. 🥑🥑🥑 "You will never be able to throw another avocado pit ever again" THAT'S SO TRUE I LITERALLY WAIT EVERY TIME WE EAT AVOCADOES JUST TO SAVE THE PIT! The addiction is real. Be warned y'all!

If you want to get the tree to produce, you have to shock the tree. We in South Africa plant the pips and after 3-4 years in the ground, you nail 3-4 inch nails into the thickest part of the trunk and then the tree will go into shock and produce fruits. This is the nature way of survival of the trees to make more fruits for the pips/seeds so the trees don't die out. Tru and let me know.

My coworker found out she could sell them in her local area for about $100 per mature avocado plant. So she went to the nearest Qdoba and asked them for all their pits. They gave her a box of about 500 pits and she was successfully able to grow a bit over 450 in her greenhouse on her rented property. A few died but she sold the remaining avocado plants in 2 months. She made enough to buy a house. So here I am, trying to figure out how to grow an avocado successfully 😂 🥑

Thank you Brad! in my experiment I tried: - 1 seed with skin, above water glass (slightly deeped), north window positioned without drape, slight fresh air, aprox 23-24 C - 1 seed without skin above water glass (slightly deeped), north window positioned without drape, slight fresh air, aprox 23-24 C - 2 seeds without skin, in wet paper towel, in zip bag, on desk, near powered laptop (constant temperature, lower lighting). The seeds in zip bag (your method) show strong root after 1 week only, leaving them in bag for another week and check. no bad odor, no mold. the other seeds have very shy attempts to show roots after 2 weeks.

Funny story - I did the first stage: I put it in a wet paper towel, in a tied bag in a cabinet and then... I forgot about it for many weeks. no idea how many... weeks and weeks... I finally remembered having putting it away, took it out today, and... there was a nice root and stem that had started growing. Plus- it wasn't moldy :) So now it's in a glass bottle, in the manner which you suggested, and I'm exited to see what happens with it! Thank you for this tutorial! This is the first time I succeeded growing a root out of an avocado pit!

Can't thank you enough for posting this easy method for rooting pits. Wonderful to find this after so many failed toothpick attempts. The wet paper towel and zip lock bag also worked great for mango pits and lemon pits--they both sprouted roots within one week. Avocados have been slower for me-one has rooted so far (2 weeks). I've transferred 3 mangoes and one avocado to propagation cups set atop 4 different, interesting, tall crystal water glasses of different shapes. I'm fascinated by the day to day root growth. I planted the rooted lemon seeds in soil one morning and by nightfall I had sprouts peeking up---that kinda blew me away. My SO is from the Caribbean and eats a mango and an avocado every day so I have a bagful of wrapped pits perking away. I think that a rooted, sprouted pit in a beautiful tall faceted glass is a great gift idea.

I have a tiny improvement that worked very well for me: Instead of a paper towel use wrapped up cling film, it holds moisture too but since it's not organic it's less likely to develop mold. Worked better for me :)
@Greensky02
@Greensky02 Год назад
I actually replaced the sandwich bag with cling wrap and kept the paper towel. Is it better for keeping mold at bay? Certainly not! What was interesting though is that it grew twice as fast as my other 2 seeds which were both using the paper towel and sandwich bag method. Could just be a coincidence that I got a "good seed". Further testing is required! 🥸

Hi Brad. I had a ziplock bag down in my basement aquarium room. I had forgotten about them for months. I was afraid to open the bag as I thought they might be rotten. Amazingly, they were still damp in the paper towels and were sprouting. I also had two new seeds. I cut donuts from pool noodles and made the center hole bigger with a razor knife. The noodle hole was now big enough to allow me to push the seed into it and yet fit snuggly around the seed like a life jacket. They are all floating on top of my aquariums in the basement under bright lights. My only worry is that once they begin to grow they may become top-heavy and want to fall over in the water. I think I will use super glue gel to glue the noodles to each other to create a floating island-like platform that will be more stable. I'll let you know how things progress with it. As for now they are floating nicely on the surface of my aquariums.

Sooo I’m just gonna leave this here: The avocado has what is called a ‘complete flower’ because of an unusual behavior known as ‘protogynous dichogamy’. The avocado flower has both functional female and male organs, however they open and close twice over a 2day period...the first day as functionally female and the next as functionally male. So it’s extremely hard to get fruit froze just one tree but it’s possible

I’m excited to give this a try! We may try to pot them later, I know some other people in the neighborhood have avocado trees, so we might just get what they need. Although I do remember someone saying you have to graft a male branch to the rooted tree. Still, very exciting to try! 🤗🌻🤓

I saw a Swedish RU-vidr sprout an avocado and her method has always worked for me. I wash the stone and then dry it for a day or so. I then cut a cross in the fat end and peel off the skin from halfway down - or all of it. I then sit it over water and watch it sprout. This method seems just as quick as the paper towel method but with no effort. I'm in the UK and we don't have great light for half the year but every single one I've ever tried to grow has worked with this method.

When you see those nodes (clumps on roots) that means the avocado needs to be potted in soil.
@tzet63

Can I throw it away if it does cause idk where to get soil
@LifeofLisaSimpson
@LifeofLisaSimpson 3 года назад
Tzé T you can probably keep it in the water for as long as you want. It might die on it own then you can throw it out lol
@bradcanning
@bradcanning 3 года назад
most plants have nodes. when placed in water, roots grow out of the nodes. the white clumps on the roots help absorb nutrients. avocados can live in water forever. you have the option to plant in soil but they can live in water.

Brad, you're so right, i've been growing avocado seeds 4 year and have many plants to attest to that! however, i learned about peeling skin which i've never done,, wrapping them in humid towel for awhile! i just stick a tooth pick in each side and put them in a small cup of water till the root and sometimes even sprout their 1st branch and try plant then in sole in a pot!! now i understand why so many take so long to do anything! so, shall go back, peel them. OR maybe chuck them and start from scratch?? i have about 10-15 now just sitting in my kitchen doing nothing!! appreciate your sharing all that knowledge:): thx, kelli

either way, they wouldnt have tasted like actual avocadoes from the store. They don't grow "true to seed" so that means they don't taste good. About 1 in 10,000 avocado trees actually produce edible (read- tasty) fruit! Avocado facts!
