Today I drive the mighty 575PS Range Rover Sport SVR. One of the most desirable cars in Britain - but not always for a good reason!
Is it worth the hassle, or is this just a lot of hot air?

18:26 Jay the reason why so many cars were waiting for parts was because JLR moved their entire parts stock warehouse to a new site - all at once. Was absolute chaos and something like 140,000 parts got misplaced in the process and still havent been found. Also JLR told their parts suppliers 'we are moving to this new site, send new stock here if you cant figure it out we wont be using you anymore' and funnily enough a fair few said fine, so theyve been trying to sort that out as well with new suppliers. Amazing logistics throughout 👍
@monzarace
@monzarace 5 месяцев назад
Some parts are really hard to get, and some just take a few days. The ware house move is true though, and every single time, the dealers roll their eyes and say they are sorry. That must be tiresome, as it's really hitting JLR in a not so good way. Without meaning this too harsh, I guess there's a reason that so many British companies wither went bust or got bought by foreign companies. They want the names and brands for pushing their own crap. As for the theft, there are many other brands that gets stolen the same way. As far as I was told, JLR made some software updates and asks owners not to keep their keys close to the car - correspondence. Cheers.

@@monzarace RR are just desirable to be stolen also, high value cars to order to be sent abroad & issues with part supply means a RR can be nicked and stripped for parts and those parts quickly vanish onto cars awaiting parts.

I think if you do some research, you will find that the other manufacturers have similar backlogs/wait periods for certain parts due to the shortages/delays caused by COVID supply chain issues. I know, COVID was ages ago, right... but it wasn't in manufacturing terms. And I don't know about all JLR dealers, or what they were like in the past, but our dealer is an extremely professional organization with a very high level of customer service.

I don't want to cast aspersions on all drivers of any particular model of car, but I know about the stereotype of (for instance) either BMW or Audi drivers being unspeakably awful in various ways. Well, I drive a very ordinary car and I'm not a pants-on-fire type, so some people perhaps might think I'm just a bollard on wheels (always in the way) - which leads me to say that certain SUVs seem to be driven by unspeakable types. On my little daily commute, there's a stretch of dual carriageway and I routinely move to the right lane because I'll be heading into the right-turn stream at the next roundabout (only half a mile from the previous roundabout), but there are certain people (...) who seem to believe that the right lane on this half-mile stretch between two roundabouts is meant to be travelled at warp speed (rather than at the 50mph limit). I can be sure that at least once a week I will leave the first roundabout and before I've gone 50 yards there will be somebody in a huge barn on wheels trying to charge through my rear bumper, sticking within inches so that all I can see is their radiator grill in my rear view mirror as they do their "move out of my way, peasant!" pose - because getting to the second roundabout three seconds quicker is vital to them. Would you believe that it was the turn of a Range Rover Sport SVR driver to glue him/herself to my bumper just yesterday...?

We sell lots of them, They're like an off road Bentley to drive nothing else comes close, Its the way they make you feel when your behind the wheel which is indefinable and some people just won't get it, Yes they have there faults but so does every Brand and when they reach a certain price point around mid £25 k they become affordable to some people who can't afford to maintain them properly and that's when they become unreliable and problematic, Remember that a £70k car is still going to cost the same to maintain and repair when it becomes a £20k car.

I suspect the problem with suspension crash and jitter is easily solved, by any and every owner. Yet they never will. Tyres. Fit wheels with higher profile tyres. No, it won't corner like a sports car any more, but yes, you will look less like a drug dealer or a footballer's girlfriend. But that defeats the point with around 95% of owners. JLR are so close to having amazing, world-beating cars. And yet they seem determined to f**k up at every opportunity.

So much of internet commentary is baseless. It would be like me having a strong negative opinion about all of the downsides of being a billionaire. I am not one and never will be. And while we might be able to imagine some downsides, I bet most billionaires live quite well. The RU-vid reviewers themselves are often reluctant to come right out and say "this is silly - these are all great cars (RRs, BMWs, Mercs, Bentleys, etc). It doesn't suck to own any of them". The only thing that remains is the RELATIVE difference or pluses/minuses, but a lot of the commenters treat these relative differences as absolutes: all RRs do this bad thing, or that one. I love RU-vidrs like James - could listen to him talk about paint drying. And I get sucked into the comments where every baseless comment has the same weight as a reasoned, objective comment.@@ogearhead2426

I rarely watchMark McCann's videos but the several ones he's done on car security have been very eye-opening. Its quite crazy that a few people can't get quotes from JLR's own insurance. Keyless entry makes it easier for owners to go in-&-out of their car when they are carrying many things but unpopular opinion I know, I think its one of the worst inventions because it has made owners very vulnerable to car theft.

Too wide for a British car, for any car, i was behind one on a busy A road, it was constantly slowing down and moving over to let lorries past coming the other way, i was well peed off, drive a couple of miles and have to slow down about 15 times , it's hideous, the car is hideous, sorry ok, it's not a bad car, but just don't drive behind one on an A road, the constant slowing down will wear a bit thin

"I know he's going to message me later, when he gets home..." I know it's commentary that's been done to death, but that should read "IF" he gets home. I've owned 3 RRs in the last 7 years (Overfinch Sport, a Vogue and a Autobiography). They are fabulous when they work (the operative word being "when") but they are so woefully poorly built, and unreliable...I doubt I'll ever buy another. It felt like mine spent more time at the main dealer, than it did on the road (my 2019 Autobiography was a particularly bad experience). A car shouldn't be a cause of daily stress/anxiety. For me, I need to be confident that it isn't just going to decide not to work when I get in it. For this reason, RR are an epic fail. I've not owned an SVR iteration, but something tells me they're likely to be even less reliable than the standard cars, because performance version always need more baby-ing than the standard.

quite the opposite, since they released the new rrs, JLR has had a 30% drop in warranty claims, and the SV cars use the more developed engines by SV themselves or BMW rather than the ingenium dogcrap they insist on using on the rest of the cars.

@anonymousperson7861 the L460 has only been out about 18 months...and let's be honest, LR is well aware that they need to fluff-up (or rather, fluff-down) the numbers re: repairs etc. All new L460s are still under manufacturers warranty, so its unlikely that non-affiliated warranty companies will have figures for at least another year or two. I'm sure they've worked out some of the gremlins, but I won't be jumping back into one anytime soon

Great comments section on this one! I had a RRS Dynamic Autobiography for three years. Great car to drive, was a bit of a dream fulfilled. But three faults, each requiring going into the workshop, in three years on a £90K car isn't acceptable. And it needed an extra oil service despite the low mileage. Just as I was thinking of moving it on my (mainstream) insurers wrote to me saying they wouldn't renew at any price, and I live in the sticks and had as good a record as you could have. I was glad to shift it on when I did at the back end of Covid when used car prices were going up. Jay looked past the SVR MPG which is truly ridiculous for a daily driver and the continuing massive depreciation. All in all this is a great car that no one should own, which to be fair to Jay is sort of his conclusion.

Just because we can doesn’t mean we should. In its lifetime, it’ll consume around 10,000 gallons (5 tons) of petrol, plus all the other consumables, often just to shift one person (62% of all journeys) from A to B. Sustainable?
