This needs more views and more people need to read Germaine's books. She's excellent!

The first thing that crossed my mind was The Elder Eunuch! Once we reach a certain age we are supposed to be gentle invisible sexless humans. We can be the cause of much humor with our absentminded silly ways, but we can not express our sexuality one we are over sixty. That is just icky.

I'm reading Zizek's "The Plague of Fantasies" That's goes over the Object of Desire whose role is contradictory because for the desire to ever be realized would remove that object from its position so it must always delay gratification. It's very much like "the eternal woman". "The objectified woman " you might also say the commodified woman. Sexuality in Marxist terms is sublimed from the Subject, the woman into an idealized and prepackaged term. " To be sexual is to be male" isn't this also the commidification of sexuality. The male is also idealized and prepackaged. Male identity becomes sublimed from the man as subject. In both cases it works to transform the citizen into the consumer. There's a BBC documentary about this which I highly recommend called the Century of Self. It goes over the development of consumerism. It also goes over this focus on Freudian psychoanalysis in today's society. I promise you you'll really like it if you liked this book. "Adam loving himself" Zizek talks about this also. The Subject uses fantasy to deny the desires of the other so that the other becomes a tool for the subjects jouissance. Lacan goes over this "not being able to love yourself" from childhood we're the object of other peoples idealizations. The child is forced to share their own position with their idealized positions. The parents see not only the child but what their expectations, so also the teachers and other adult figures. In this way we're introduced to the dominant ideology and learn to incorporate it into our self identity. This ideological self or Ego-ideal is the self we recognize as the self. He goes on to make an interesting point that not all of the self can be processed into the imaginary some of it is left over within the traumatic real. He calls this the objet petit a. We are made up of these two parts, the subjective self and the unsubjectifiable self, the self which is both the​ self yet alien to the self. Lacanian psychoanalytics is pretty interesting. Third thought...This is why some gay philosophers have argued that homosexual relationships differ from the typical heterosexist norm. Heterosexist society ignores so much science and culture to maintain this false structure, but that does not mean reality goes away. Another book worth reading on this topic is Radically Gay, about Harry Hay.

Second thought, she said that transgender women are not women. This seems to contradict the quote you read about gender, but she said it. May I suggest a wonderful book titled The Riddle of Gender. It was the most informative book I have read about gender.
