Having Fescue I can say that young Fescue, as being recently planted within year or so seems to very susceptible to disease. As my fescue has gotten older, I've had way fewer issues. So your theory on this is 100% correct.

I like to mix seed with top soil and starter fertilizer so it doesn't wash away as easy. I just mix it up in a wheelbarrow and rake it in, and that seems to work well.

I know weather varies by region but in the Mid Atlantic we finally have had a true transition from winter to summer also known as Spring! For many years we’ve gone from the 40s and 50s in March to the 80s and 90s in April. Best Spring in many years.

Believe it or not, buy some Irish Spring soap bars and cut them up and place them in your flower beds. Deer and rabbits don’t like the smell and won’t bother your flowers. Plus it won’t wash away when it rains. I learned that from a neighbor who belongs to a local garden club. It really works.

As always, incredible work! I'm always amazed by how you manage to make every video even better than the last. You're editing style is flawless. You should make a documentary about DIY lawncare. You know all the right people to interview. All you need is an intern researcher, a small crew, and some (I suspect with your portfolio and expertise) relatively easy to get funding. I don't know how you could possibly fit that into your already packed schedule but I do hope it happens some day. I'll come to the premier! Anyways, I've had a relatively dry spring and the lawn looks strong as ever. Usually I try and get some preventative fungicide down before June, but I'm really trying to make my super low input season as low input as possible. I haven't had any disease in the last 3 seasons aside from snow mold. What I'm really trying to say is, "Please, tell me I'm not crazy for skipping my prevent app this season!" You Betcha,

I have a lawn service and have my fine bladed fescue treated 3 or 4 times during the summer for brown patch. They don't put any type of fertilization on it in June, July, or August. They aerate, seed, and fertilize in September with a couple of late fall, winter, and early spring treatments. I'm in NC and have lots of shade too. The only thing worrying me is the chemicals you put on your lawn where the Westies run around several times a day. My neighbor stopped putting chemicals on his lawn after his dog was diagnosed with lymphoma & died. They always let the treatment dry before letting the dog out but she was a foot licker & the vet thinks that's what happened. Just a thought...

I’m seeing mushrooms in areas I’ve never seen them before this year. Really odd. I also did a spring renovation and been watering a ton so that’s the only thing I can think of that’s changed for me is a spring reno for the first time ever. Just put down a fungicide at the preventative rate to try and catch it because temps are supposed to jump about 20-30 degrees this weekend. I’ll be watering that little baby grass a lot! I dethatcher my back yard which didn’t have anything done to it at all and as always it recovers very quickly after beating it up. People like to worry about damaging their lawn but really it will bounce back in no time with some fert and water. That back yard is looking great so far! Cheers!

Ryan, have you ever considered taking a soil sample and some samples of your grass to a County , City or Town Cooperative Extension Office? I took some samples to our local office, availed myself to the services they offer and gained some valuable insights. In our City, we have a "Master Gardner" who can identify almost anything at a glance. If she doesn't known it about the flora and fauna in the various areas of our city, it's not worth knowing. Your tax dollars pay for those services, you may as well put them to good use.

I put down black beauty ultra seeds by Jonathon Green, in an overseeding project. It is beautiful grass which is a blend of grasses (and has fescue). After it grew up, we started hitting high temps here in NC and several days of rain. Cue the fungus! And the Brown patch. So, I just put down Bioadvanced granular fungus treatment in only those areas where the Brown patch is, then sprayed the whole yard with Patch Pro to treat the whole yard for fungus. Since its only been a couple days, I'm not sure if it's working or not, but the brown parts of the yard actually look dead 🤐....soooo....I'll just watch and see what happens over the next week.

The most information I am able to get out of anybody is simply advice that I need to fertilize my lawn and prevent dandelions and such. I've got like 10 different plants growing in the grass and I only want one pretty green lawn, not a patchwork of random stuff and clover and vine-type things and tall woody grass etc... It's so bumpy too, and everyone just says "it's worms." Like, I've lived in plenty of places with TONS of earthworms, but never had a bumpy lawn because of it.
