I recently started playing FF14 and thought it was boring because I was trying to do every side quest I saw lol thank you so much for clarifying the significance of them 😭 I woulda been stuck on them forever
Same, I did that mistake. This is actually the second time of me trying to tackle ffxiv, first time I reached lv 50-ish but couldn't finish ARR 'cause it's too slow and ended exausted by side quests and infinite dialogues. This time I'm more "time efficient" and it got so much better.

Great explanation, the game is absolutely massive. I killed way too many ickle squirrels in the beginning lol, I was drunk on power... I did like a few sidequests for just practising basic stuff like maps, movement and casting, etc. and understanding quest rewards, etc. though. But as you say, it's eventually just pointless chasing up and down every little alley.
Only a little thing about the sidequest. There are very few that are not marked as unlock quests but still are required as a quest chain to unlock other stuff. Most of them are quests like Lvl 50, 60 and so on quests. Sometimes I wondered why I dont find specific unlock quests, but its because I required a normal side quest ^^
Cool tip but I still feel it’s still a massive waste of screen space hence why it’s in the video. You really don’t need to see in the HUD that you have gear equipped unless you have some kind of learning difficulty and need to be reminded every time you look at the screen… 😂 so I guess it’s good that they are being all inclusive 😂 Just by playing any video game on the planet ever you should be aware if you have gear equipped or not, there’s not a player in the world running around the game with gear pieces missing or unequipped, it doesn’t even happen by accident in this game since it rewards you all the time with new stuff 😂 the thing with materia, that’s cool and all but doesn’t make it useful enough to deserve a spot on the HUD, I can click the menu at any time and see that. Materia extraction is barely used in the game as you get free materia as quest rewards, and is only available at level 19 anyway. I bet you 100% you will turn off inventory grid at a near point in the future. I can’t name a single person on console who has kept that feature on for longer than 2 weeks :)
Note: Sidequests can get you gear. If I had to say anything about this it would be to do the side quests if you feel like it or want some regional backstory/lore. But other than that, everything already said applies. On notes about HUD customization; this is imperative. For years I've used ALL 10 HOTBARS on PC. That's 120 boxes on my screen for various different attacks, items, functions, etc. I don't know how or why or if it was a trick of the aether but I never considered taking all of the bars that weren't used by my main attacks, changing their orientation/design and then shrinking them down to 60 or 80% so I can compact them and reorganize them. It makes everything so much cleaner. Adding on to Free/Discounted fast travel: On PC if you register the square enix security token, you will be able to set a free fast travel point as well.
Nice video, was especially helpful for me, since I've started playing couple of days ago on my PS5. Game feels great, but the UI is something that requires some playing around with. I have a question, is it mandatory to do crafting jobs while leveling, or should I do them on my second class job? And do I have to go for all of the crafting jobs, or just pick one and stick to it?
Hey and thank you! So no it’s not mandatory to do the crafting jobs while levelling. I got my main class/job to level 90, completed the full game and all expansions without touching the crafting jobs at all. I’m now doing them in the endgame, and it’s way better to do it like this in my opinion because… 1) I can fly everywhere now due to completing the game 2) I had a few million Gil on my character after completing the game so I could buy whatever materials I need from the marketboard 3) you will have a ton of shard material from playing the game normally anyway. These are required for crafting. 4) I can put on 150% crafting XP boosters that you can access later in the game. For your other question, I would recommend doing all of the first quests for unlocking every single job in the game. Take all 11 of the crafting/gathering jobs. They have the blue quest icons with the plus symbol on the side. This is because you will clean up the map that way and have less quest markers everywhere. You can make a gear set for that job and go back to it anytime. Then personally I like to stick to one crafting role at a time and level it. But that’s just personal preference in case you get bored doing it. However, there are some cases where you are forced to go and do a different job. For example you might be levelling up the Goldsmith role and you might need a ton of wind shards to craft something. That means you will have to switch to the Miner role to go out and mine some wind shards to continue with the goldsmith role to be able to craft what you need. Or you could just buy the wind shards from the marketboard if you already completed the game before doing side jobs and have a ton of spare Gil. A REALLY EASY way to level up your crafting jobs that doesn’t cost any Gil or materials is to complete the tribal quests that you unlock as you progress through the game. They are quests you can complete under your crafting role and reward tons of XP! Hope this helps!
I would lile to add, for your crafter, they use the SAME GEAR beside your weapon. I suggest you pick them, and gather while you level up. Becauae what you will need to gather will be on your way neway. So it might seem like it will take longer but in fact, you will save time. Get your miner and herbalist. Do your MSQ. When you are sent somewhere get your gatherer, pick the stuff on the way, and move on. Sell everytbing to vendor. Eaely lvl stuff aint worth nothing on the market board (AH). I did my gathering at end game and i am bored out of my mind. It feels tedious and is boring. Incorporating it in your natural progression will feel seamless.
So, are all side quests trash for exp? I just started playing again today after a long break and I'm at level 63 on my Samurai. I'm trying to get to 70 so I can try out the new classes that came with Endwalker and I'm currently level locked on the MSQ. I've been spamming leveling dungeons today and it's kinda boring so would you have any tips around leveling when you're in this situation?
No they are definitely not for exp or gil. As explained in the video they are just all trash. For example a level 40 main quest gives you 22,000 EXP. A level 40 side quest gives you 5,400 EXP. It’s not worth it for gil or EXP, just avoid all of them. Follow only the important side quests (blue/gold markers) and the main quests (gold fireball markers). FYI you already earn too much EXP in the main story as it is to easily max your level out so the side quests are literally a waste of time

Nothing wrong with going Arcanist. If anything, you have the great advantage of having much lower queues for stuff by going SCH, while levelling your SMN at the same time.
Okay I just wasn’t sure how the dps of a SCH would fair for questing and those types of solo content. Used to healers being more(group content just healing very minor damage )
@luciifero333 I’m sorry I misunderstood that. You were saying group content seitch to scholar then swap back to summoner during solo play. Didn’t realize that was more or less the same thing.
@@Kooopahtroopah I think you may have it slightly mixed up. I’ll explain in more detail, I hope this helps. In answer to your original question. Yes, Arcanist is a great way to go. It starts out Magical Ranged DPS. Then at level 30 it gives you options to become either a Healer or continue as DPS. In answer to all your other questions and confusion… to summarise: -Your abilities for your class/role are locked behind solo role quest content so you need to do those quests, there is no avoiding it. -You can’t switch between roles to complete the solo content. Every single class/role has different solo content missions. It is impossible to complete healer solo content as a DPS as it will lock you out from doing this. -You can start as Arcanist class and then level 30 you can switch to summoner role (DPS) or scholar role (Healer). You can switch between the 2 at any time in the future though. -As both scholar and summoner stem off from Arcanist, they will both level up together and share the same overall level, but you still won’t unlock any abilities or moves to use with the class/role you are not directly using because the abilities and moves are locked behind the solo content. Let’s say you play as a scholar as your main, then you won’t unlock any summoner moves or abilities until you go back and complete the solo content for that. -You will be at a small advantage to play as a healer, because there is a lot of people in this game playing DPS roles. This means when you queue up for dungeons and group content later in the game, the queue times will be shorter for you because healers are in high demand. -Healers solo content in this game works well and it has been well implemented by Square Enix. They give you a group of NPCs that are damage dealers and you mostly just keep them alive. DPS solo content is the opposite, it lets you be the damage dealer and gives you NPCs that keep you alive.

I was tempted to try melee here but most my people are either tank or melee. That being said the break down there is a huge help going forward. Thank you very much.

You will be playing the first ever story from A Realm Reborn. The game does not allow you access to the latest DLC called Endwalker because it’s locked behind level 80 :)
Id like to say that here and there youll find some side quests with interesting rewards. A level 30 conjurer (take off job stone if youre white mage) can get a unicorn in their guild hall. And each of the cities has a side quest thats lvl 14 for a dance. Definitely dont do all the side quests. But at least look at them.
