They say to be who you are. They say that when they're changing the gender, sexuality or race of a character, they're telling the viewers that you should accept who you are and not feel bad for it. For example, if you're bisexual, you should be proud of being bisexual. But in reality, when you grab an already existing character who was not LGBT and was a specific race (let's say white), and make them an LGBT character and/or change their race, you think you're helping that character to embrace who they are, but actually, by forcing them to be someone they're not, you're not letting them be who they are. You're forcing them to be someone who they're not for the sake of views.

I mean, he's absolutely right. Problem is, he's also wrong. People won't come our to support such things because it doesn't matter that much to them.

Racism is prejudice based on race. Retconning popular characters into other races thinking that the "diverse" peoples will like it more would be racist. Doing it so that there's more depth in the backstory could be acceptable. E.g. Asian Batman for martial arts training because dad was Jackie Chan, adding depth to Batman's no kill rule because Jackie didn't like killing with martial arts. Doing it because you forgot what race the character was is also acceptable. Tons of examples of different artists drawing characters as different races because they didn't know. To do it only to make people happy would be, because you're prejudging audience numbers based on race and the choices you make to make sales. If you sent out questionnaires to random people explaining the background of the character, then asking what sexuality and race they should look like? Dunno. Probably get the mixed meat snow white in feudal Europe again.

It really depends on what they're actually changing about the characters. A lot of shows have characters that the community around them and even others characters think might be LGBTQIA but are never allowed to say anything because of the times they were made in. Two men who were good friends for their entire lives becoming gay lovers makes sense, a girl who disguised themselves to fight in the military but never returned to live a woman after the conflict ended and continued to present as masculine and take up masculine roles becoming transgender makes sense, a beautiful woman who many have longed to be with not getting into a relationship just because she's not interested becoming an aromatic makes sense.

That is weird most my friend just hated the movie and as a whole completely just left the franchise and this were like nerds nerds; like Yu-Gi-Oh play on store kind of nerds.

Only Star Wars I truly enjoyed was A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and The Phantom Menace. I know, I know, that last one is controversial, but Darth Maul, the "Dual of the Fates" light saber fight/music was legit, the pod racers were beyond cool (also made for an amazing Star Wars racing video game), the droid army and various battle droids were truly instant classics, and tons more things made that film awesome. Only real issues were friggin' Jar-Jar Binks, and the stupid and completely unnecessary midichlorine thing that was added to satisfy cringe atheists. Other than that, Phantom menace was absolutely lit. The Naboo Starfighters were also dripping with cool factor, almost as iconic as an X-wing or TIE fighter. Y'know what? Fuck anyone who says Phantom menace was bad; you're wrong. It was easily 1,000x better than that godawful Return of the Jedi puppet show, and a billion times better than the newest trilogy that I would petition be removed from the Star Wars canon. All 3 are proof special effects can't polish a turd script.

Star Wars was never just yours to enjoy. Cope.

@@Gottaculat I went to go see Star Wars four times. Can't say the same for the rest. Only reason I stayed on was for a few characters, the tech, and the music. Once Disney bought the franchise it was dead to me. Same with Star Trek. Since then Doctor Who went stupid and now they are threatening Superman. On the other hand, The Wonderful World of EntertainmentWoke is saving me a lot of money. Then again, Woke Government is more than making up for he savings. :(

@@vandermixon Then why not just create original properties that fit these diverse groups, instead of lazily tokenizing existing IPs that were already fine into a mediocre mess just to pass off as some veneer of progressiveness while also aggravating everyone, both the original fans and the very people they're trying to market to. Honestly, it wasn't because these properties were obsolete, or boring, or sexist, but it wasn't "woke" and not pushing a certain agenda. Then again, you're only glad that these companies are pushing your ideology at the expense of their sales and marketing.

A great example is the comic book industry, sales gone down and their section in stores are getting smaller. But it keeps getting made. Compared to manga where it’s now more popular and topping graphic novel sales.

Starting in the 90s, China began pushing a lot of money into the entertainment industry through a variety of corporations. those corporations eventually merged into TenCent, the official arm of the Chinese Communist Party when it comes to media and entertainment. this occurred because of the amount of money that stood to be gained. through this medium, China began molding and changing various mediums of entertainment, such as movies, television, radio programs, etc. at first, the changes were subtle, most studios were happy with a large influx of chinese cash and open access to a massive market, but they had to shift to accommodate their new investors. over time, bit by bit, china pushed for more and more censorship, changes, and shifts, which, when that went through, led to them directly co-opting media as a form of attacking and changing youth and creating division inside the usa. see, the studios dont care about money loss on properties anymore. sure, there is some hand waving and pearl clutching about the state of the industry, but in reality, since they became so dependent on chinese cash, they're able to A. break even (at the least) in the western market, while making simple edits and cuts to make it palatable for eastern markets for the profit , B. push a fanatical message, no different than any other religion with way too much influence, and this C. makes the investors happy because it sows division, and the cycle repeats. they co-opt and change characters not because they dont have the skill, staff, money, and time it takes to make new ones, rather, they co-opt old characters to push the new religion on newer generations while also sowing discord among ardent fans, and thus, the nation.

They did at least 3 times: steven universe,the owl house and the loud house -the fandom of the first one tried to made a girl suicide because she made a character thinner than in the original series -the fandom of the second cancelled the creator of the show because she used a lighter tone to drew a character in a drawing that in general had a lighter tone -the fandom of the 3rd is worse than genshin impact fandom

Yeaaaaaah. ...but at least the movies some of those characters were in were good and the swap wasn't shoved down our throat for virtue signalling purposes. I really don't mind when a character's race is swapped for casting reasons, as long as the new race also makes sense. Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury would probably be the best example out of those, at least in the movies I watched (which is a bit more than half of them)

He didn't look like Samuel L Jackson until a Punisher/Daredevil crossover in the mid-2000s, which was weird cause the Punisher MAX series was still going and was still using the Heston Nick Fury look.
