❤️BIBLE VERSES OF THE DAY❤️
Philippians 3:12-14 NIV
12 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

You said you didn’t Leeloo do anything… her journey as the 5th element was to discover if humanity was worth saving, so she could make the choice to save everyone. Each rock represented the 4 elements, she was the 5th rock in a way. Each rock needed a physical sample of the element they were representing. Leeloo represents humanity and up until the last minute she learned of and experienced the darker side of humanity. But when Bruce showed her love she could now be the vessel to destroy evil. Like the 5 stones she could be activated until Bruce expressed is love for her. The true fifth element is love.

Costume design was by Jean Paul Gaultier with a $90m budget, the most expensive production outside the US at the time, 1,000 pieces were designed by Gaultier for the film (including the costumes for all the extras - all of the aliens were dressed in couture), amounting to over 10 fashion collections for one movie.

Besson has an amazing cinematic eye, but he’s a crap story teller. The performances are what push us past the terribly written plot. It’s really a terrific cast and they get us emotionally involved in the story. If you want to see how bad Luc Besson can be when he doesn’t have such talent on hand, while at the same time providing amazing visuals, watch “Valerian and the City of 1000 Planets”. Truly amazing eye candy, but stupid and incomprehensible story featuring characters no one cares about.

She’s right, though. The plot is convoluted and doesn’t really make sense. Even if you follow it, it’s got gaping holes. The visuals are great. Besson is a cinematic genius. But what sells the movie is really the outstanding performances at all levels. If you really really really like Besson’s visual style, and you don’t care about terrible acting and writing, go watch his other sci-fi movie, “Conceited Retard and the City of 1000 Plot Holes”, (Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets). Guaranteed to make your eyes orgasm while temporarily lowering your IQ. And it’s got a cameo by Rihanna ❤

Hey Gabrielle... That you are doing this one is so cool. I love this one.👍 Okay...Here's a bit of background. Director Luc Besson had been working on the story since he was a teenager in France. He even created a complete language, which Leeloo speaks, for the story. Before he was able to make this he made some incredible action films like 'La Femme Nikita' and 'Leon: The Professional' which introduced Natalie Portman and also starred Gary Oldman. This story is a tiny bit on the thin side. It was partially influenced by 'Star Wars' but mainly influenced by comic books by artists Jean "Moebius" Giraud and Jean-Claude Mézières, who also helped design this film. It is one of those films that was recognized as incredibly good in some circles, but also bad in others (it received a few Razzie nominations). Personally, it is one of my top 20 all-time favorite films, and top 10 favorite sci-fi films (without sequels). When I see it on TV, I tend to watch it or put it on in the background as I do other things. Ruby Rhod was offered to Prince, but he turned it down. Besson shared this fact a few days after Prince died, but the reason Prince passed on playing the role was more due to his touring schedule at the time than anything else. The Diva Plavalaguna was played by Besson's then-girlfriend, Miewenn La Besco, who was uncredited for many years. The song she sings in two parts is "Il dolce suono" from Gaetano Donizetti's 'Lucia di Lammermoor' and "The Diva Dance". The first part was recorded by Albanian soprano Inva Mula, and the second was pieced together from a few samples and manipulated thinking no one could actually sing the entire "Diva Dance" section. Several sopranos on RU-vid have posted their attempts to fully sing "Diva Dance" without manipulation...some of them have succeeded in singing it, although they have said it was extremely difficult between how low and how high the song is written (across five octaves). I can see how this was not your cup of tea. It isn't for everyone. But I am happy you watched it, even though there were some moments I could see in your eyes "What in the heck am I even seeing?!" I was laughing at those moments. Hopefully, whatever is next on the channel is something you like more!!! Take care!😊

First time I watched this film, I had a hard time following too I admit. You almost have to watch it twice to see the forest from the trees and see the bigger story happening. There are like 3 storylines intertwined and they regularly cross over with each other, for example the priests, the shapeshifters/Zorg, Korbin Dallas all trying to get aboard that ship (the priests and the shapeshifters having the same idea to imitate Korbin Dallas). Also I had to watch the Fifth Element again because someone mentioned the main villain never actually crosses path with the protagonist, and I was sure they met at some point. Overall a great quirky film.

It's just good sci-fi. Fantastical and simple. Some sci-fi might take some philosophical idea and ride it out to see where it goes. This one is basic good vs evil and save the world in a beautiful adventure. Just a few pokes at things taking them to the extreme. Tiny apartments, giant filters on smokes, but then something nice like the drive-up boat restaurant that delivers while also being a bud. If there was something bigger I missed it because I was enjoying the ride.

5th Element is a scifi cult roller coaster ride. The story and film is from the French director Luc Besson and the style is what make the movie very entertaining. It comes off very campy for sure. The humor was what makes the movie enjoyable. The action is very 90’s with explosions and endless gun battles. This is that film when you just need something to rewatch but don’t have to pay full attention to. To many the style makes it a classic. So I can understand. The director went on to do films like Taken and Lucy. Oh and León The Professional is another classic of his with Gary Oldman.

When the spaced out mugger does his little dance in Bruce Willis's doorway, I could feel half the crowd going with it and the other half wondering what the fuck they were watching. This was not _Star Wars_ . It was probably the first "French" film a lot of Americans paid to see without even realizing it.

You can get points taken away for driving on the wrong side of the street, whether you hit someone or not isn't relevant (Though you can get ADDITIONAL points taken for causing a hit) Also Bruce's character does indeed break rules, but he literally had no reason to do so. He didn't know Leeloo, and had no reason to believe the police were in the wrong here, ESPECIALLY since he was mostly concerned with his own circumstances (Until she pulled on his heartstrings)

I assume Leeloo did a leap of faith. Her mission required finding a human who would love her, so she jumped in faith she would find him. And she landed on Corben Dallas. Whether it was destined to be Corben, she would find someone. Iceborg had a princess leia parody vibe, The fifth element was Life as expressed with Love. Luc Beeson is criticized for uaing archetypes rather than human characters. He moves the archetypes around the stage to make his point. In this movie the point is the importance of Love and Life. He's using Joss Whedon style comedy-drama where he keeps undercutting serious moments with a joke.

This is actually a French movie and was the most expensive ever made until that point. It does feel like a spoof comedy almost throughout, like it goes on a tangent to show something irrelevant for seemingly no reason, but it is definitely not a spoof. It's hit or miss with a lot of people for that reason. It's notable (for me) for being one of the few Sci-Fis that depict a metropolis of flying cars despite the concept existing for decades before and since. Also, visually it's held up extremely well. Unfortunately, I think Bruce Willis was miscast. He acted fine, but I don't feel like he belonged in this movie.

@@suicunesolsan hmm, I guess I'm struggling to nail down what aspect of Willis' performance fell short for you. I can imagine Kurt being a bit more charismatic in the role, but Jackie Chan is way outta left field, lol, like Bruce brought a stoic, military cool guy persona which works in a lot of the comedy scenes for me, but does admittedly lose me when it comes to the romance. I can see Kurt Russell carrying the romantic storyline better. But yeah, Jackie? Explain yourself.
@suicunesolsan
@suicunesolsan Год назад
@@210rebelboy It's not that Bruce's performance fell short. More that he felt like a transplant from Die Hard in both personality and appearance, right down to the tanktop and wise cracks. That transplant was both distracting and underwhelming. Basically, he draws attention to himself for the wrong reason. We like him because he's Bruce Willis, not because Korben Dallas is interesting. I mentioned Jackie Chan because he often plays underdogs fighting impossible odds (which Korben basically is). And Jackie would inject his trademark stunts and awkward personality. Thinking on it again, though, Jackie would draw even more attention to himself... so maybe scratch that. I stand by Kurt Russel though.

Thought I'd explore your "spoof" comment.. for some reason i think of "parody" when i hear the word, though this would be more of a satire. the line can certainly be blurry at times, such as with a movie like Galaxy Quest. "camp" comes to mind, taking a much less serious attitude with the subject matter. sci-fi can blur back toward fantasy - perhaps super-hero movies are a good comparison, where we have to suspend our disbelief with tech, then magic, then demigods, then aliens, etc. i think comic books are a better comparison, and this movie does feel like different stories featuring some unrelated characters woven together.. some pulp fiction, if you will.
