The reason Leeloo freaked out as they woke her up was because she was reliving her last moments in the crash that killed her. From her perspective, she was dying in the crash and then was teleported to the lab...a terrifying experience for anyone.

5th Element is a great sci-fi comedy. Bruce is way funnier than he gets credit for and Chris Tucker steals ever scene as Ruby Rhod.

A little extra info about the Diva singer you astutely recognized. She was married in real life to Luc Besson, the movies’ director until the movie came out in 1998. Luc then married Leeloo (Milla Jovovich).

The Fifth Element, along with Galaxy Quest and The Abyss, were the only movies that while I was watching for the time I thought to myself "if I could continue watching this for the rest of my life, I would die a happy man". I never wanted it to end, and still do not. Brilliant, original, engaging, funny, touching, poignant, and every actor/actress gave 150%. It also introduced, and made me love, Gary Oldman as an actor.

Nice. I remember Quentin terrentino saying they had to film all Bruce Willis pulp fiction scenes first because he had to leave the set to film the 5th element.

Chris Tucker really makes the movie, his energy is all over the place. The esthetic of the city depicted in the film was influenced by the cult animated film Heavy Metal and especially by the French comics Valérian and Laureline. The flying cars look exactly like those in the 1967 comics. The music is also great but that's a trademark of Luc Besson. It's just a fun movie.

Bruce Willis was very young at the time of this movie. I saw the news that he had dementia. I am very sad as a big fan of him ㅜ I wish him good health.

He was 42 when the movie came out, that's middle age. In Die Hard he was 33 and his youngest would be 32 in Blind Date, which is meh.

Ever since I saw this in the theater, it's been one of my fav's. So unique in story as well as they way it tells it. Action scenes with dance n rhythm music instead of the normal action music made it feel more fun and exciting. And I know everyone is split on Chris Tucker, but I loved his over the top performance.

I watched this blind in the theaters on its opening run and it was a packed place and the audience had a blast. It definitly will be a well-remembered movie that divides the audience so it will remain a bit of a cult classic but won't be forgotten.

Emma, this was written and directed by French film maker Luc Besson. He is one of 3 directors associated with the "Cinema du look" movement. As you see in this film, he has a very unique ideas (sets, costumes). Other films by Luc that I recommend are Leon: The Professional (1994; Jean Reno, Natalie Portman) and The Messenger- The Story of Joan of Arc (1999; Milla Jovovich, John Malkovich, Dustin Hoffman).

The Actress playing Leeloo is Milla Jovovich and her Daughter played the young Natasha Romanoff(Blue Hair) in "Black Widow". You can see how similar they look. :)

Hi Emma, this is one of my favorite futuristic fun films!🙂This is also my favorite Milla Jovovich film. Zorg is a young Gary Oldman (Commissioner Gordon/Batman). Yep, you were looking forward to the Diva opera song. It is very good!🏆Another fun futuristic film you may enjoy with Stallone is "Demolition Man" (1993). Another GREAT reaction to this well made film, Emma!!!🎬👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

It’s since been proven wrong but at the time the Divas song was supposed to be impossible for anyone to sing in real life. Although I think I remember hearing somewhere about the woman playing that role actually did sing it. Viewers didn’t have the kind of information we have today to debunk that rumor about it being impossible so we just believed the urban myth

Great reaction! The Fifth Element is one of my all-time favorite movies. One of the ways it is different is that the hero (Bruce Willis/Corben Dallas) and the villain (Gary Oldman/Zorg) never meet. They almost pass each other at the elevator in one shot, but they never meet in the movie.

Great reaction to the French film I wish I'd gotten to watch in French class instead of those 'two dudes talking about nothing in a cafe for hours' ones I was forced to watch. 😀 Milla Jovovich sold this role completely. She absolutely was insanely impressive in this role. To relegate such legends as Bruce Willis, Gary Oldman, and Ian Holm to also rans compared to her performance is just an incredible achievement.Those three were great, as was comedy legend Chris Tucker, but Jovovich was perfect as the centerpiece. And the divine language she spoke sounded so amazing too.
