I saw this movie when i was 11 back in 2000. I had school the next day it was late at night. I wasn't supposed to be up. When John coffey execution came on. I cried my heart out. My dad came in my room trying to figure out what was going on. He just saw me sitting down on the carpet infront of my Tv. He saw what i was watching he just sat down next to me. I still have the same reaction when his death comes on. But you just made it more emotional when He asked " please dont put that thing on me i is afraid of the dark" and you said softly " please" 😭❤

He was the perfect choice for the role. I remember Reading the book (came out in 6 parts) and at the and they wrote it making a movie of it with Tom Hanks and i couldn imagen that they found a Actor for John Coffee that fit. But man i was wrong, Duncan was 110% John Coffee. He deserves the Oscar more than Hanks.

Stephen King features a lot of religious symbolism in this story. Example: the cathedral windows above the guards desk with the glowing light flowing across the floor of the green mile, the halo effect above John Coffey's (JC) head as he watches the film; John's ability to heal and bring back to life; John recognizing the constellations in the night sky; John taking on the pain of Del's execution; John's ability to read thoughts of others.

I think Percy wasn't abused. It seems implied by his powerful aunt's willingness to intercede on his behalf that rather, Percy was spoiled rotten, indulged in every desire until he lost any sense of empathy. Also he's short, and short men in a Stephen King story are evil little bastards who feel like they have to prove themselves to tall men. It's kind of a running theme in his body of work.

The scene with Del always hits me, right in the onion ninja lair. "I sure wish i could have met you guys somewhere else." When you have read the book, you would know that Del is in jail for attempted insurance fraud turned to murder when the building he set fire to had people inside. He never wanted to hurt anyone. He just wanted to make some money. Meeting the prison guard on the outside, before that terrible deed could possibly have turned his life around.

Actually, it was another character who committed insurance fraud. Del raped and killed a girl, then burned the house down in an attempt to cover it up.

Hi and great reaction! Tom Hanks is one of the greatest. It's true that he did a lot of really great dramas, but he has also done comedies. One that I haven't seen many reactors do is called The 'Burbs (1989). Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia from Star Wars) is his wife in that movie. It's a mystery-comedy.

It wasn't a prison with a death row, but I was persuaded to work at a county detention center where inmates charged with murder were held for up to two years waiting for trial. They weren't usually the worst behaved. We didn't have a Percy, but some officers' behavior made me wonder about the personalities that sought out that work. When I jumped between two big guys who were fighting they kept punching at each other around me. Other inmates who thought I was being hit pulled them away. The other officer present just stood by. I resigned after six years there. In that time I had few physical conflicts with inmates, and didn't need to use the pain compliance techniques, defensive tactics, or pepper spray we were provided.

If by emotional you mean crying, I personally have never gotten emotional at any movie, including this one. I was just talking to a couple of friends about this the other day and they didn’t believe me lol. I’m also not a psychopath 😂. As I explained it to my friends, I’m just always painfully aware while watching any movie that it is exactly that; a movie. They’re actors. Phenomenal actors for sure, but actors nonetheless. My constant awareness of that fact while watching kind of makes it difficult for me to get emotionally invested to the point of being moved to tears. Also, I’m already the type of person that just simply doesn’t have the desire/inclination to cry often. I say all this to say, you can be non emotional to this type of content without being a psychopath lol. I still consider myself to be a normally functioning human being even though I don’t necessarily experience the same emotions you might while watching sad movies like this.

@ 34:24 That old movie is called "Top Hat" (1935) which is one of the many of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers musical comedies. There's another Frank Darabont film that is always suggested to reactors when Green Mile is watched first and that is "The Shawshank Redemption" (1994). (Green Mile is always suggested if Shawshank is watched first!😁 ) That's because both are Stephen King stories and both are _very_ excellent Darabont films. You may actually like Shawshank better than GM, though it's a matter of taste. And if you're in for a really great Sci-Fi movie, the best made to date IMO, do "Interstellar" (2014) where you'll need your tissues for that one too. And you'll get a taste of Einstein's relativity too! A little advice Emma. It's best not to research Shawshank and Interstellar because of spoilers there. You can trust these are _excellent_ movies you'll love.😁👍 And a nice reaction video you did here. BTW, based on the life span of a common field mouse (Mr. Jingles) raised in captivity, Paul could live to over 600 years old, maybe 1000! ✌😎

You did a very good job reacting with great insight into John Coffey's character!!!🎬👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 If you want to continue with another Tom Hank's film "Apollo 13" (1995) is an excellent film and true story. If you want an action movie "Die Hard" (1988) is a favorite of many. If you want an action/sci-fi movie "Predator" (1987) is well rated and popular. One of the most popular mobster movies is "Goodfellas" (1990). If you want a film similar to Deadpool then "The Suicide Squad" (2021) is great. It has many anti-hero types in it with a blend of gore and comedy.

Many view The Green Mile as a Christian analogy (John Coffey - JC). For example, he infects others with life, has the ability to resurrect, is wrongly accused and executed (together with 2 other condemned men), has an advocate named Paul, enjoys watching the Rogers-Astaire movie with the song “I’m in Heaven” (Top Hat (1935)) and repeats it as he is executed (“with me in paradise“). Well, you get the picture, so to speak. By the way, the phrase “dead man walking” was oftentimes used by prison guards accompanying those condemned to death, in part to caution folks to be “careful” because such prisoners presumably had nothing to lose

As other comments have mentioned about Michael Clarke Duncan aka Big Mike. He was like his character, John Coffey, a gentle giant according to his family and friends. Prior to acting, Big Mike had a previous career doing security as a bodyguard for celebs such as his final assignment, late Rapper, Biggie Smalls who was killed during a drive by shooting in 1997. After Smalls' death, Big Mike quit security and focusing on acting. Between assignments in security, Big Mike did mostly commercials. Big Mike's big break in acting was 1998's Armageddon with Bruce Willis. Then producers of The Green Mile were casting an actor for iconic role of John Coffey. Big Mike's costar, Bruce Willis suggested Big Mike for that role. Bruce knew something about his friend, Big Mike has it. Because he also casted Big Mike in another movie: The Whole Nine Yards with Bruce Willis and Matthew Perry. Big Mike was nominated for an Oscar for his role as John Coffey. Sadly, Big Mike died from complications of a heart attack in 2012 at the age of 52. During his funeral, Tom Hanks eulogized Big Mike.

He wasn't robbed.. another actor won the award! The nomination was a great honor and acknowledgement of his performance in itself

Your reaction was excellent. I am subscribing. I will suggest "Out Of Sight," an entertaining movie with an excellent cast.

This movie is inspired to a real story, u can check if u want the story of George Stinney Jr, he was just a kid, he was black and being accused of being guilty for the rape and the murder of 2 little girls, he was sentenced to death and being killed after 81 days on the electric chair. He was innocent.

I know sometimes editing takes some time but did you watch Forrest Gump right before this one? Two very emotional movies back to back.

Emma, here is the breakdown in reference to Del and William Wharton (from what I've heard) Eduard Delecriox was guilty of murdering a girl, and in trying to hide the evidence by burning her body, set the apartment building on fire, killing 4 other people. William Wharton killed people in a bank hold up, including a pregnant woman, add to that, the two girls. This movie broke me.

Just finished the book again and for Delacroix's crime the fire from burning the body killed 6 others including 2 children. I can also say that as horrific his execution was on screen, in the book it was much worse

I'm glad that I discovered your channel. You're fun to watch. Everything about your reaction was good except that you sometimes cut to a scene without a transitional moment to explain what it means. An example would be when you cut to the scene where warden Moores says "It's the size of a lemon," without including a moment where he says that his wife has a brain tumor. I'm sure that editing these things must be hard and this was the only issue. See you next time.

If God can make a mouse live so long, how old was John Coffey?

Hi, Emma. I'm sure you've already been told, John Coffey is a parallel with Jesus Christ. The same initials in the names and John speaks of God as God the father.
