journalist: how did you guys win the war? veteran pilot: we never forgot that day in 2009, we were out gunned, outnumbered, hell we were even out sized. they had glassed most of world before we could even put up a fight. all and all we were out matched in every way but one thing. journalist: and what was that? veteran pilot: we had the VF-1 Valkyrie, and they didn't. and that all that mattered
Ah yes, one of the three main armaments of the U.N Spacey, the variable fighter. It's just as important to modern combat as the giant boxing spaceships and the teenage Chinese idols singing about their fighter pilot boyfriends.
It did not go so well for harmony gold by suing Hasbro and it was a long battle with the battletech franchise but battleTech won the lawsuit against them.

It become absolute pain in the ass getting Macross related models, gunpla kits, animes, videogames,... if you're living outside of Japan, all thanks to those fucks at HGold. I would even argue that they are the main reason Macross being less popular than Gundam.
While Gundam may have been my first mech franchise, it doesn't mean I haven't loved me some Macross. Hopefully there'll be more vids like this from you at some point in the future. Even if I'm pretty sure none of them will have anything from Gundam, the Valkyrie and successor craft are damn nice.
The Valkyrie VF-1S design has got to be one of the coolest mecha to ever come out of anime fandom. It is such a classic that it is immediately recognizable at a moments glance. Shoji Kawamori really outdid himself with this one. I really enjoyed your video. Yak Deculture!
I believe the term Robotech is a mistranslation that occurred with translation between English and Japanese. It was popularized by a few American news outlets because the editors thought the name sounds catchier.
@@spartanalex9006 I think you have that backwards Harmony Gold sued FASA for copyright infringement despite FASA having gotten the rights to use a variety on anime images before Harmony Gold had. Locked things up in count battles for way too long and FASA never recovered from the financial strain on the company. Most the games published by FASA in the 80s and early 90s are now owned by other companies.
Robotech was coined by Carl Macek, who wanted to syndicate anime, but at the time you needed around 80/more episodes to able get a series syndicated. Since most anime series are only like 25-36 episodes, at least the ones he wanted to syndicate, he cobbled:The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross from, and Genesis Climber Mospeada into a 3 part series and called it Robotech. He also added a couple elements to unify the different series, I think it was the Robotech Masters & protoculture. BTW, the original Star Trek became the worldwide phenomenon we know & love, because they got a 3rd season. This just barely gave them the minimum# of episodes they needed for syndication 🖖.
lol nice touch putting in the Bronco from ORGUSS as an alternative to the VF project Some details: The VF-1 FAST/Super Pack CANNOT be used in-atmosphere as the decrease in the Valkyrie's aerodynamic profile is way too high, the footage of it operating in-atmosphere comes from the year 2060 and is a specially modified variant of the FAST Pack developed by Aisha Blanchette (Macross 30, PS3, 2013) 5:45 Holy shit, actual footage of the CG intro for Macross VO, now THAT is a rare sight Skipped over the SDF-2 Megaroad 01 launching in 2012 lol
The only thing I can say is that ALL of the Artdink games allow the use of FAST packs in atmosphere IIRC. Realistically they don't make sense in atmosphere and I think your description is how it SHOULD be all the time. I was just trying to find a happy medium
Thanks for exploring the pioneering Anime aircraft that opened a new FRONTIER in versatility and combat performance. The DELTA of info available in the BIG WEST Media is akin to a fuzzy FLASHBACK. PLUS, the fact that at least SEVEN years of complicated legal battles over IP and alot of info was erroneously attributed to/from II other unrelated anime, like a love TRIANGLE . It all needs to be deconstructed with DYNAMITE and brought back into HARMONY, That would be a GOLD star. Valkyrie-Dad Jokes Out! Happy April's Fools!
My first ever anime was the American adaptation of SDF macross. I immediately fell in love with the fantastic design work in the r variable fighters, destroids, and the characters themselves. I’ve only recently watched the original material and I’m in awe, such a fantastic story and universe. Great fucking episode man, I look forward to seeing more of ur content.
As a kid in the 90’s and with my dad being in the Navy. I was lucky enough to had the chance to sit in the cockpit of a F-14 Tomcat that was in the hanger having its engines pulled. Although I had to stand on the seat just to look over the console and through the HUD. It still was an amazing experience that I will never forget.
GOD DAMN, FALCON! This is SO OUTSTANDING! This was SO LONG OVERDUE! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS! Hoping for a NEW GENERATION who'll LOVE this much venerated anime series!
Please make more Macross fighter videos. Maybe the new variable fighter competition between the YF-19 and the YF-21. I absolutely loved this video mate.
They are extremely well documented so they might as well be considered like that lol, check out the Macross Mecha Manual as they have full technical details on every VF from Zero to Frontier
Finally got me some time to sit down and watch during my lunch break at work. Fantastic video, brother! Also looks like you’re closing in on 7k subs! Keep the vids comin!
I have been watching macross since 86' and still watch the new series when it comes out. More interesting is that I have been running a macross game since 97' and still write about it.
I seen the screen shot, THE SCREEN SHOT of your video and instantly knew it was a VF-model. It's the flight suit, that sexy sexy high vis yellow w/ shoulder daps. Mwha! Need more Macross content.
New subscriber here, and while yes this is an April 1st vid I do kinda wanna see you do vids on stuff from Ace Combat, Gundam, HELL if you could find a kickass OVA known simply as “Yukikaze” and do a vid on its aircraft I’d uh… Ok idk what I would do but it would be pretty neat to see other anime aircraft featured (oh and keep up the real world stuff btw, never knew the B-52s got tail guns till I watched your vid on em)
Great work! This video is a great intro to the amazing story of Macross. Yak Deculture! Take a look at the VF-25 from Macross Frontier too! SMS lore as well with that fighter.
The use of the F-14 as a base for the Valkyrie mecha, is in my opinion the number one reason for Robotech/Macross' success, as it is hands down the coolest jet design to ever come out of the human engeneering mind. If the mecha design in Robotech sucked, it would today be remembered as a lame space soap opera. And cool video bro 👌🏻🖤🏴☠️ Edit: oh, and BTW, we are still waiting for a legendary reboot with amazing Akira style animation..
The good ole VF-1.. I remember a Colonel with the Marine Corp who flew an upgraded version of the Belcom VF-1. It was called the Marine Corp spec VF-1 series of VF-1AA, AFS, JA, AFS, SA, SAE and the SCS. He was with the Squadron VMFA-531 "Grey Ghost" that was detected with VMAG-357 off UNN Enterprise. I'm talking about the OLD UNN Enterprise CVN-89. After the whole ordell and his transfer to the NEW ARM class space ship. Enterprise. He was in service all the way though 2025? Matter a fact? Lost contact with him just resently. Might be unboard SDF-12 making his way with the rest of the Marine Corp squadron to Edin. Great work Falcon! Now, April Fools stuff off to the side. AMAZING video my dude. It was a fun to be geeking out on this Video. What the hell is Robotech anyways? LOL :P
Watching Robotech as kid, then seeing it again during the early days of Cartoon Network. I'm still nervous about pineapple salad. Because it's to die for.
As an old fart, I remember getting up in the morning to watch Robotech before going to school and it has always held a special place in my heart, even after watching all the Macross movies that came over in the 90s. I now await the Macross purists to start hunting me down.............
April fools spoof or not, that was a good Macross video Falcon! Grew up on it and RoboTech both so lots of good times, may go five it a rewatch for the umpteenth time, always a good time.
As a fan of SDF Macross and its OVA sequel Macross Plus, this is one of the best videos I've ever seen. I even dig the nods to Robotech, the initial adaptation/localisation of the original show and SD Century Orguss, the initial standalone followup to SDF Macross. I mean sure, the franchise lost its way by swapping focus from "love, war and culture" to "Rockstars/Idol Singers are gods!!1111", but the original SDF Macross, DYRL and Plus have earnt their right to get new western releases, and I cannot wait to buy them when they happen. I even own the HG model kit of the YF-19 from Macross Plus, which I consider to be the best model I've ever built, Gunpla or otherwise! But as you can tell, my interest in Macross is limited to the pre-7 entries, and my preference for Mecha Anime is actually Mobile Suit Gundam, namely The Original Show up to Thunderbolt: December Sky as that franchise has also been slumming it up as of late due to fighting a losing battle to be "hip" and "relevant".
Yes I agreed you have to give Frontier a chance! It is really good. You should also watch the excellent prequel OVA Macross Zero. Roy Fokker is one of the main characters in that excellent if short series.
I was today years old when found this video. Man, Mockumentary?! This is a Documentaty to me... I am a Macross Fan!!! Man, question... Would you keep doing documentaries of all the Valkyries?
Alright, so i remember robotech growing up but it stopped being on tv soon after i encountered it. so forgive my intense ignorance. but is this like a compilation and distillation of the accepted lore of the universe/anime/manga or was this just like very creatively made up? i didnt even know there was 3d animations for robotech stuff, all i remember is the 2d cartoon.
Us Macross fans have had to explain this countless times. So here goes: Robotech is an amalgamated mess of 3 completely different anime shows turned into a single show, these 3 anime were Super Dimension Fortress Macross, Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross and Genesis Climber MOSPEADA. This video discusses the most famous and well beloved anime of the 3, Macross. This part of the show in Robotech is commonly referred to as The Macross Saga and has multiple changes to lore, characters and for the most part has a completely different script. Falcon made a slight reference to how the lore is different between the two at around 0:55, Robotechnology is an example of some weird lore changes between the two. Macross itself has been a long running franchise for over 40 years and has some pretty extensive lore that's ever expanding. So everything he said is more or less accurate to the lore and didn't take any creative liberties.
The YF-11 became the Shinsei Industries VF-11 Thunderbolt which would see service during the Protodevlin War of 2045. An air race version of the VF-11 would also appear in the novel Macross The Ride called the VF-11 Thunderfocus
that song at the end, super taisen? thats what i put in the background when using the macross like planes of AC7, the XFA-27 (VF-1) or the ASF-3 (VF-19) or the F-14 with the brownie colors...
Robotech was my first anime, so... this simultaneously makes me very happy, and disoriented, as the clips all have different art styles from what I expected to see.
