For decades, Pennsylvania Railroad's iconic "Position Light" signals have guided trains across the Pittsburgh Line between Pittsburgh and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The signals have proven to stand the test of time, lasting through Pennsylvania Railroad, Penn Central, Conrail, and nearly 20 years of Norfolk Southern.
However, in mid 2018, it was announced that these signals would meet their demise in the coming years, and before long replacement Safetran "Vader" signals lined the tracks. Starting from Harrisburg, signal replacements became a monthly occurrence, and as of June 2019, the only remaining signals lie between Altoona and Pittsburgh.
Knowing their days were limited, Joes Junction and I set out to shoot this final stretch of PRR signals, and this video documents the trip. Enjoy!
