I made some of these today ready for spring monster plaice or tiny dabs, I didn't have any small hooks so I smacked the end of a grip lead wire flat and bent it round to make a spade end clip hook thing. Also made an emergency baiting needle by knocking a 1.2mm crimp onto the end of some 1.5mm ss wire, I put a bit of a point on the wire first to start it off, yay me 🐛🐟👍
@@Billyfishing_watch aye that's a good point haha, well worst case my worm flies off casting, no danger. I only use 4oz for flatties on a baby TT LD so should be OK 👍
Started using hair rigs after watching some of your vids a while ago now. Used to deep hook quite a few fish especially smaller such as whiting, school bass and flatties. Hardly any now, and so much easier unhooking them😁👍 Thanks Billy and hope to see lots more of your videos
@@Billyfishing_watch the one difference to this though, is that i made up some small stainless rings at work and tie them onto the end of the hair to clip them down. Have a bit more confidence that it wont come unclipped. Until your next vid comes online, Fish on Billy😁👍👍
Brilliant. 👏👏Anything that helps care for the catch is a good thing.👍👍 Will definitely be trying this. Thanks for sharing.🫡👍👏 Take care and stay safe.😷🙊
Nice one Brother Billy just how I like it pure and simple I don't like complicated rigs. The hard part now is finding so nice dabs to try it out . I do know some nice marks , but as I don't have my own boat now can't get to them will find a beach somewhere. Thanks again Billy
Circle sizes: 1,1/0 & 2/0. I have @ 30 if each tied & ready to fish. Now let's just see if I can find those Black Backs (winter flounder) I've been talking about. BTW... I've also made a hand full of dingle dangles out to 12/0 for striped bass. With a few 9/0 &10/0's for other toothy critters made with wire. I may not be ready for the season. But I have a decent running start at it. Post-surgery therapy is way ahead of what was expected. It's looking like I'll have line wet some time in February. Billy, to you & yours I wish you a Merry Christmas and an outstanding New Years. Thanx for posting. And who knows...Maybe I'll see you on the beach this next year. lol
Thanks Randy, and a merry Christmas and a happy New year to you and yours. Hope very thing goes to plan, hook a monster, Brother. See you on the beach 👍😁
Great video as always Billy, I am using similar idea for cod fishing, I just cut the hook point off a lower 3/0, J hook to use as a bait holder, below a 3/0 Octopus hook, will update Octopus hooks to circle. Stay safe Billy
You can use any hook if you burn the temper out of it using a cigarette lighter, match, hotplate, whatever you have. Just heat the hook really hot and let it slowly cool down. Stops hooks snapping. I guess if it's too weak , you could reharden the hook afterwards. Just get it hot enough and dunk in cold water. I make dingles out of 50lb dacron tied with a Uni knot and super glued.
Nice one brother Billy! I'll have a go at making a few after Christmas. Haven't seen you use hooks to make the end clips before. I also noticed your intro has changed to BillFishing! Easily confused, me! Merry Christmas to you & yours BillyBill! Stay safe & well - Dave. 🎣🎣👍👍
A little tip if folk buy the hooks shown here. Size 2 is a bit of a struggle with 80lb braid to get through the eye. So 1 or larger to make the hair clip piece.
@@Billyfishing_watch yep I copied you but went with size 2 and it's a bit of a struggle. But again my 80lb Chinese braid might be a bigger dia. It's a lovely cheap one
Would love to know your thoughts on how successful you would find fishing in these temperatures and what types of marks you'd recommend and what fish to target?!?
Hi, buddy...may i ask, the superglue of the braid hair on the circle hook, is that to prevent the braid from moving on the hook or just to strengthen the braid knot..the reason i ask is i have been striping and splicing leadcore leader for my braided hair ..the harder it pulls the tighter the weave beds down..just wondered if the hair is best not moving on the hook..sorry for waffling on and thenk you for creating great content...
Hi Billy, quick question, what size circle hooks would you use on a 2 or 3 hook scratching rig, if you were fishing for plaice or dabs, cheers brother 👍
Hi Mike, just the same as if you where using j hooks. If you use size 1, for then just use a size 1 circle hook, and if you use 1/0 then just the same again. Thanks Brother 👌
Hey. :D Ty for the great tips it help me a lot on the beach. :) Is it Owner circle hook you fish with, and what size do you fish with.. Thanks for the great Videos Billy
Hi Paw. Owner are good hooks, but Japanese hooks are very hard, and break sometimes. So I like Mustad, and I fish. All the way from, from size 1- 10/0. What fish are you targeting?
Thanks for replying like the idea for grip leads have just modified some using stainless steel bike spokes just have to open out holes to 2 millimetres 👍
Hi Mark. yes it happens, but mostly it's just small fish. They fall right off, nobody has asked before. You can see it in some of my flatfish videos. Thanks Brother 😁👌
That's amazing mate: It catches fish too and my line of questioning is also original. Honestly though, what a great idea you have there. I'm fully with you on circle hooks. Whipping a bunch of sloppy bait around a J hook with elastic never made me feel good about presentation. I been using my own variant of dongle dangle for some years now, its also original- happy to show you sometime @@Billyfishing_watch
