This was the time when we used to watch matches together. Neighbours, friends, dad's friends, aunties, brother's friends. Now a days watching matches alone...match r exciting but it's not fun like 90s era.
Kanitkar would be so proud of himself for that boundary and will remember this innings for the rest of his life. It was a nail biting finish, I saw it live.
I was a small kid while watching this final .. our tv was in the first floor .. during the last over my uncle was doing 2 rakkahath sunnath namaaz for team India .. my two cousins covered their faces out of the tensions n asked me to tell the result once it was done .. after the winning strike we were jumbing so high .. even our mom aunts and grandmom came up to see what is happening because of the noise we made .. can't never forget this final .. srinath n kanitkar made it for india

Superb win. The starts given by Sachin in this tournament was Terrific.. He resigned frm Captainship and wanted to concentrate in Batting..then this Independence cup started in Jan 1998 was a golden year for him.. Still holds the record of most centuries 9 in a year..

I remember it was friday and the month of Ramzaan ( if am not wrong ) .... after 314 we thought that we have lost the game . Sachin came and struck 5 consecutive boundaries of mehmood and every was one jumping and then got out again we lost the hope . Sourav and Robin played really well and in the end Allah ka shukar ho Kanitkar scored that four . One of the best finals we have won ..
I very vividly remember the match..This match along with 96 World cup,titan cup,98 sharjah were peak of my cricket crazy childhood..This was also the period when Ganguly was coming into his own as an opening batsman..After 10 overs into the chase,my parents unwillingly took me to a hill temple maruthamalai and even though i was disappointes i still prayed for nothing but india win there..On the way coming down the stairs,there was a tv in a smallnshop and i just stood there watching these final overs..My mom and dad went down and waited for me..During the final an old man chewing betel nuts told me india will lose after mongia's wicket i think, i still remember him and how pissed off i was

No Indian cricket fan can forget these finals moments of this match. Hrishikesh Kanitkar became immortal after this performance. It was a fantastic win, but to feel its real worth we need to understand the situation of Indian & World Cricket of the time. 9 needed from 6 balls with 3 wickets in hand was a near impossible task esp. for Indian team of the time. I remember I went out to play my own cricket in the gully. India had a bad start to the chase. Then Robin Singh & Ganguly started turning things around. When I was done after the Azaan with my gully cricket, came home to watch the concluding part of the game. Quite a thriller it was. By the way this game was in Dhaka, my mother city!

Each winning the first 2 finals 3rd became ultimate final !! 314 was too big in those days with Anwar and Izaz making centuries, Pakistan was in Cloud 9. Slow Over rate made India has to get the target in 48 Overs. Sachin Cracked 41 in 26 Balls gave a opening punch and Pak's 27 Extras made it Run a ball Target. Robin Singh Played a dashing 83 ball 82 and Brought India close. Ganguly was at his best in consistent hitting went on to make a great century!! Funny thing was All the Media and People's attention was Grabbed by a new Guy Kanitkar who Immortalized himself with the last Boundary !!!
+phani chand you forgot Pakistan also played 48 overs not 50 overs . In that series Pakistan was playing with one bowler Saqlain Mushtaq. Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis were unfit. Thats was the main reason Pakistan lost that match. Any ways salutes to Saeed Anwar and Saruv Ganguly for wonderful entertainment

india created worldrecord in this match. at that time no country has ever chased a target of 316.300 above target was chased only once by that time that too by srilankagainst kenya. the hero of the match was sourav ganguly who got 124 runs.those were very tensed situations.match interrepted for many times.

Kanitkar still be remembered for only this act. I don't remember what happened to him after this match and what he's doing right now. But he made himself evergreen in the hearts of all Indians and even for Pakistanis. I was in class 12th at that time. I don't remember the date of the match played.
At that time it was impossible to think India could win such a massive game without Sachin scoring half-century at least. I remember elder boys remarking then.

I saw this at home live on television. The next day at school this was the only talk. Such was power of cricket. There is a name for the cup, in our minds this is still remembered as the "kanitkar last ball four match". In fact that is exactly what I typed to get here, although the title doesn't tell that explicitly. NOSTALGIA. Love cricket! PS : I know its last but one ball four but still. kanitkar will be remembered for this.
I remember tis day I was just 7 years old ..I come of my flat along with my elder brother and started shouting in full josh !!! Remember dogs got afraid of our shouting and still we were celebrating in streets like kids 😂
Kanitkar wasn't the star of the match, albeit he scored the winning runs on a (then) record run-chase. It was Ganguly and Robin Singh who really delivered when it mattered and Ganguly won the MoM for his 124. Also, Kanitkar disappeared because he wasn't a good player.
I think this was Asia cup!. Watching this highlights itself nerve wrecking. Definitely one of the best games of Ind vs Pak. This was the wold record chase at that time!
