i don't think so? i mean i think you get access to their tester servers if you subscribe to their patreon or whatnot, but some servers are open for public use without paying
@@CalSplatoon im beta tester beta testers get access to all online services that pretendo supports, including a miiverse clone, and online servers. you have to pay $10 a month for it, and also splatoon on pretendo servers are really hard to get in a full lobby since there isnt as much people there.
Should of said something like "it's time to close down our servers, for more information, visit our website, and continue playing the new games, stay fresh"
Callie: BREAKING NEWS! soo i guess you have heard it now but our game has been shutdown Marie: What!? But i wanna keep playing! Callie: unfortunately this is the end for the game but don't fret! We had many great times but for the final time? Marie: lets say it all Callie and Marie: STAY FRESH! *"servers have been shutdown"*
@@seantaggart7382I think it would be like an emergency broadcast saying that the online service was shutting down, turning inkoplious plaza into a limbo-like state
I already miss it. My first ever true Online Game Experience was Splatoon. I sadly didn’t have a Nintendo Network Account till after Splatfests were done, but I loved online ever since Fall 2016. I hope that everyone else loves this game as much as I do, and that we can all play it again together someday! Thank You Nintendo for making such an amazing game and community!
Haha same, I didn't get the game until after the final Splatfest. The Wii U was my first console so this was also my first experience with online gaming. I love the first Splatoon, it was so much fun
@@Connowot387 It just means no more major updates (new weapons or kits stuff like that), or splatfests. It makes sense they won't focus on 1 game for too long.
Some people still got to play for another rotation, the maps were Urchin Underpass and Piranha Pit for Regular Battle, and Arowana Mall and Ancho-V Games for Tower Control.
Y’know, I remember the time I saw the first commercial of splatoon, the iconic “your a kid now, your a squid now” one, although I never played the first splatoon, it’s still quite a surprise to know nintendo discontinued the Wii U and 3Ds multiplayer servers… Well, you know what they say, you can’t stop progress. “Isnt nostalgia just the Worst?”
“You get these warm and fuzzy feelings inside for a bygone era that slowly fade and crumble into nothingness, as you realize the good times are behind you, *you can’t go back!* “
MARIE: "Hey everyone. So, unfortunately, this is gonna be our last broadcast on here." CALLIE: "But this isn't the end for us! Far from it, in fact." MARIE: "That's right. We've been talking it over, and we have decided to permanently move over to our stations in Inkopolis Square and Splatsville!" CALLIE: "Sadly, this does mean the end of our run here in Inkopolis Plaza. But hey, we had a good run, didn't we?" MARIE: "Yeah, we did. Everyone, you've been an amazing audience." CALLIE: "U-Until we meet again..." CALLIE/MARIE: "S-S-Stay F-f-f..." _(Callie and Marie suddenly begin sobbing.)_ CALLIE: "Oh, we can't do this!!!" MARIE: "We don't want to say goodbye yet!!!" _(Suddenly, Off The Hook and Deep Cut enter the stage.)_ PEARL: "Hey, sometimes you just gotta cut the cord, girls." MARINA: "Yeah, it isn't easy leaving something like this behind, but sometimes you just have to do it." SHIVER: "Indeed. And it's not like you're stopping the idol work, you know. You'll still be together." FRYE: "Yeah! And there's no way we're letting our bosses end their last broadcast crying on live TV like this!" BIG MAN: "Ay, ay." _("Come on everyone, let's give the girls some good ol' TLC.")_ _(Everyone begins to huddle up to Callie and Marie. The two stop crying and stand back up.)_ CALLIE: "Thank you, everyone." MARIE: "That really helped us." CALLIE: "Welp, let's end this broadcast on a high note." MARIE: "Until we meet again, everyone..." CALLIE/MARIE/PEARL/MARINA/SHIVER/FRYE/BIG MAN: *_"Stay Fresh!"_* _(The signal then cuts off.)_
That day, the inklings decided to use their weapons for a different purpose. They played with them as if they were toys, like children, recalling the memories of their youth, as there would never be another moment quite like this one. Truly wonderful.
No one killing eachother in the final minutes kinda reminds me of when a few people managed to keep playing halo 2 matches for weeks after the servers went down.
So upset I wasn't able to log on for the final hours. The first Splatoon holds a special place in my heart, sad to see it go. But I'm glad I got to play it, I have a lot of fond memories with it :] Thank you for the recording. Who knows, maybe I'll set up Pretendo once it's available XD
It's already available, just a lot of games online still don't work. Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon 1 work great, and miiverse is functional. Just visit their website on how to install. Or use the new hackless method and just change your DNS settings.
Some of the Japanese names found in player history also saying stuff like "Thanks Splatoon!!", "Love you guys all", "Thank you for everything". It's so wholesome and heartwarming. Sad that they have to shut the online service down, but the memories that we made along the way with all these wonderful players will continue to live on. Thanks Splatoon!
@@Loner098 One big difference though. Pretendo has an optional subscription for real money. Wiimmfi never did. Anything where you gain money will be much easier for Nintendo to sue.
@@Loner098this, I feel like if they belived it was a legitimate threat to them it would’ve been at least targeted earlier . Taken down in the case of wiimmfi
@@lampshade7189 From what I heard, the reason Nintendo took down the Yuzu emulator was because the Nintendo Switch was still an actively supported console and Yuzu was using their Patreon that gave them money to support emulation.
For some reason, I was able to watch the news and play next rotation Tower Control on Ancho-V-Games and Arowana Mall for 2 more hours. In Dude's lobby as well
Rest in true peace splatoon, may the future be kind to you And the modding community I'm sad they didn't give us the unused playable octolings as a final goodbye gift
I was online when minecraft got shut down, they did it in a weird way. everyone's game would just crash, and upon reopening, it would give u the error message.
man i rarely played this but began grinding when i heard about the shutdown, only got to level 31, already miss the music and graphics and how the splash o matic/inkzooka absolutely slayed in rainmaker
I never played splatoon one but I’d watch all the ads I could for it and BEG my parents to get it for me, I’d watch people play it and my parents got me splatoon 2 when it came out. And seeing the servers shut down makes me wanna CRY, the one ad I saw when I was a kid for this game made me love the splatoon series forever.
I’ll miss it this was a great game and I remember seeing this in 2015 and saw the gameplay of it and I can say this was a cool experience I got see but never got to play it but I’ll miss it so much
Man.. even though I haven't really tried to play it in a while, it's still sad to see it go, the first game has always been such a unique experience that the following 2 never really recaptured
its still amazing that these servers (ye i know its p2p but the matchmaking servers) were online for such a long time like it went on for 8 years after the switch release i wouldve expected to be down in 2017 already from nintendo
this makes me so emotional splatoon 1 came out when i was 15 while i was living a very difficult life but i played splatoon 1 every evening and it was always a time that made me forget about my problems for a bit. i loved playing this game so so much it brought me so much happiness. to see how the servers got shut down makes me so sad its crazy
I remember when i used to watch splatoon 1 videos on my old computer with memes, funny moments and alot of wholesome and epic gamer moments, and when i got splatoon 2, i got to experience what those people did, i got hyped for splatoon 3 i started crying i played both 2 and 3 excessively, i got a ton of the splatoon amiibos and i even wanted to order a wii u and splatoon 1 to be able to play a really nostalgic and incredible game ive been wanting to play for years, yet, i couldnt, because nintendo shut down both the 3DS and Wii u's online services. I will miss you splatoon 1, without you i wouldn't be the splatoon fan i am now.
They made it to the 2nd rotation after shutdown, but are they still going? by the time I‘m writing this comment there would be atleast another 2 theoretical rotations…
i survived this rotation and got to play the one after, piranha pit and urchin underpass, everyone the entire time was just squid partying and i played till the very end, at 1AM CDT it errored out for me. ;_; if anyone saw me i was spla1lover... thank you splatoon 1 nintendo network servers for the memories
Once it was past 7 PM (CDT) for me, pretty much every match I was in we were just all doing squid parties and messing around. Was a really fun and silly way to send off the game for me. :)
It's so wholesome watching both teams co-exist semi-peacefully just to enjoy each others presence in the final hours. Wish I could've participated but unfortunately didn't have access to internet the day the servers went down.
why did i actually choke up when the “Breaking News!! Lets go live to Callie and Marie at the studio!” popped up :[ i never even played Splatoon 1 i started at Splatoon 2,,,,,
I really missed out on playing splatoon 1 but even then it absolutely sucks to see the servers get shutdown just like that. I remember watching so many videos on it on youtube
If the Nintendo devs added a final broadcast saying something like “We’re closing the battle tower for renovations” that would be amazing. Splatoon one was great, and will never be forgotten. o7
I've actually never played any Splatoon games, but I'm familiar with the game's concepts and a lot of its characters, and seeing this vid made me so sad. I didn't get a 3DS till I was older, but the Wii U was a huge part of my teenhood. I absolutely LOVED playing Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8, Hyrule Warriors, and Smash 4 on it, and now that the online stuff is gone... it kinda feels like a part of me is gone too. I really do love Nintendo, but damn, sometimes I really hate them when they do things like this to us longtime fans. 😢
As someone who was a former Splatoon 1 player this is really sad and bittersweet end it is sad that it will be gone this game was the first shooter i actually cared about and got me into the Splatoon franchise and its amazing that there are still non hacker players even at the end or at least thats from what i see in this video its really sad that the wii u online had to shut down the wii u as a whole gave me some good memories and gave me some new friends but it looks like i will never really meet them again i guess this is a goodbye unless if i decide to go on the fan made online service but knowing how my wii u is i probably wont so yeah but i wonder if there was last moments on other games before the shutdown? Anyway rip wii u and splatoon 1 you will be missed and not forgotten
It's one of the first games that got me excited. Now it's gone forever.. for good. Never knew about this till now. Thank you for the good memories Splatoon 1. We will miss you.
It's interesting that they wrote "mata ne" and not "sayonara" It basically means "until next time" rather than "farewell" It implies you will or at least want to see the person again.
i remember seeing gameplay for splatoon 1 in gamestop before it came out. i thought it was just another kiddie game. i was so wrong. thank you for taking the first steps so we can fly, splatoon 1 ❤
i watched and live streamed the end of MK8 for the Wii U its still insanely sad to think how so many peoples childhoods is now gone. Thanks Wii U for the amazing times
I understand Nintendo is a company and all, and they need money, and need to save money, but why shut down the Online services for a device that has such a huge following now? The Wii U flopped in 2012, but now people love it. I wish Nintendo would have noticed that, kept the servers and stores up, for us.
its so sad watching your childhood device slowly become a useless brick i have a 3ds and its just slowly stopped being playable, first the shop is gone, now i cant even play online games, and i have to restart my 3ds after i put in a new game card to even play it ive started emulating 3ds games now but its still sad
