A lot of people put this show in a box and are quick to dismiss it as a sad anime due to its ending. But it's more than that. It's a beautiful dialogue about youth, trauma, and strength to overcome hardships that life throws at you. It's about passion and self-identity. The art and especially the music did a great job in bringing out emotions that the dialogue wasn't able to. Overall a great show, even without considering its ending. Watching you watch it for the first time makes me so happy that you appreciated it the way it should be. Thank you for reacting to it. It's been a ride. Looking forward to your reactions to other shows as well! 🥰🥰

"A lot of people" is a LIE. WE INDEED SAD BECAUSE WE KNOW ABOUT ALL ABOUT YOU TALKING ABOVE THERE. We, actually know kaori gonna dead since like.. episode 11 or something. the early episodes. but when we go deeper and deeper, it's more than just "kaori gonna die". it's full with art.
@neurotic3015
@neurotic3015 Год назад
The only critique I would give is that her death is lowkey pointless. I know many would be quick to jump to its defense but think about it- everything it had set out to do was done by the time Kaori was about to die. Trauma? Overcome. Strength? Obtained. Reason to live? Firmly grasped. What do the characters gain from Kaori dying..? Nothing, really. I really like this show but her death really feels like a punch in the gut simply for the sake of being a punch in the gut- like a "look, we can show off the harsh realities of life and how not everything always goes your way! This is a mature and real story!" type vibe, but we don't watch these because we wanna feel the crushing weight of reality, we watch them to escape it- I feel this would've been better if she survived, as long as they pull it off well.
@huhjanus
@huhjanus 11 месяцев назад
@@neurotic3015 Kaori living would be the worst possible ending. It would take away everything. The show makes a good point about reinforcing one thing even early on: Kaori is dying. From then on, the show builds everything up with the knowledge that the viewer know what the ending is going to be. All of it just wouldn't make sense if Kaori lives. "What do the characters gain from Kaori dying?" You certainly don't need something like this when the show ends with Kaori dying, it's the climax. We don't need to see the aftermath. It's the story of a girl who was just passing by and doing everything she can to make the most of it. This is the story of living the best life on a timer, not a story about overcoming death. It's not about what the characters do AFTER the climax, because the whole story revolves around everything BEFORE the climax, up until it reaches the end. "We don't watch these because we wanna feel the crushing weight of reality, we watch them to escape it." Yeah, but that's YOUR idea of watching. But not everyone is the same as you, not everyone wants to escape reality. Believe it or not but there are people who watch these because they like it, they enjoy it. It would be irritating if there were no clues, but you know it was leading up to that moment. There was no way Kaori would live. The death works because it isn't sudden, you know it was going to happen. I don't have much to say because I would be repeating everything so I'm just going to say that YLIA without Kaori's death would be so bad it would feel like deus ex machina without the deus ex machina.
@HSSJ2
@HSSJ2 11 месяцев назад
@@neurotic3015Yeah you clearly didn't understand the point of the show. Kaori didn't come into his life just to help him obtain what he needed. Just because he's overcome his hardships means kaori has no reason to die? Tf is that logic? Not everything happens perfectly, there's literally hundreds of animes out there with happily ever after endings if you prefer those so much. Kaori died, sometimes the worst possible outcome happens and you just have to deal with it. That's the point.
@neurotic3015
@neurotic3015 11 месяцев назад
@@HSSJ2 That’s definitely not the point lol, the better point to make is that it’s about the the value of life and why you should strive to be better because you never know when it’s your last day. If this show was just about how life is hard and sad things happen it’d be boring and sad all the time. “Not everything happens perfectly” isn’t a good reason to kill off a character, you can do that, but that doesn’t mean it’s good writing or reasonable; people have real life to look at if they want to face harsh realities, there’s no good reason to kill a loved character off just to inflict suffering on your audience and show them that sometimes there is no happy ending. I honestly think this show is amazing and my comment was made in the heat of the moment, you could’ve argued in favor of the shows decision so much better but you picked the shittiest reasoning possible.

Every bit of the letter just hit so hard, but the part of it that made the most impact to me was that Kaori considered to be a pianist, but when she heard Kousei play she then made a firm decision to be violinist because she wants Kousei to be her accompanist and that they play together someday. Kaori must have been very happy to have gotten a photo with Kousei even if it was just by coincidence that Kousei was walking behind her when she was taking a photo with her friend. This show is really beautiful, and I'm glad that you get to experience this beauty as well. It was a great journey watching this show again with you, thank you so much for reacting to this show!!

I was really happy that they decided to end the show with the 1st ED, it's just so good & hits right in the feels especially with the acoustic version. The hospital roof scene, Kaori whispering "Thank you" in Kousei's ear, Kousei's final performance & the "Goodbye", Kaori's confession in the letter & the most heart breaking of all the line "A spring without you is coming" at the end man I cried my eye balls out watching these episodes. When you have time i recommend you to rewatch this, even on your own, just posting your second impressions on the community. I think that you didn't realize, but in 20:20 when she say that she loves him it shows us three more scenes, and in all of those scenes she spoke something that Kousei couldn't hear, all those times it was her saying "i love you". When you already knows this and watch the story it seems to be a complete other one, those and other scenes have a completely different meaning. This is a show that once you have already watched and knows what happen's you see the hole story different, and in my opinion that is most worth to watch more than 1 time. Sorry if the english is bad, a huge hug from Brazil, love your reactions

After watching this reaction video, I can proudly say that the number of times I’ve watched the ending without crying remains firmly at zero. Kaori apologising in the letter will never not kill me. I first decided to watch this series after I finished a more action oriented anime that left me feeling numbly disappointed by how little emotional investment I had in its ending. I was desperate to watch something that would actually make me feel something, so I stepped out of my usual genre comfort zone and checked out Your Lie in April (Id never really watched any slice of life/romantic anime before). If it was an emotional ending I was looking for, I got way more than I had bargained for. It’s been almost two years since I finished it for the first time, and the impact the ending had on me still hasn’t gone away.

You're exactly right about this show being impactful. I saw this show when I was in 9th grade. At that point I had about a year of off-and-on weak piano practice in, and I was mildly interested in trying to learn piano versions of game soundtracks I liked. After seeing it, I was introduced to Chopin, Scriabin, Ravel, Debussy and all sorts of other romantic/impressionist composers. I grinded almost every day after school from then on in this tiny soundproofed practice room for a couple hours. By the end of high school I could play some pretty technically impressive stuff. It truly launched me into music, and now my dream is to become a composer. All just because of this show, isn't that crazy? In the world of classical music it's very unusual to start playing when you're that old, but I stuck with it and I'm fairly good now. Not amazing, not a savant, but good. And now I have my whole life ahead of me to continue to improve. You can start training your music right now, no matter your age! I have very lofty goals for music so it's imperative I truly grind it out, but you don't necessarily need to be the same way. Just do you. Speaking of which if any of you would like custom music commissions just DM me on twitter @LotusFlower742. Heheh, had to plug sorry! Love you all.

This was the first Anime to make me cry. I remember how upset it made me, I had never experienced a sad anime so I was totally taken by surprise. I've never been able to watch it since.

Damn it! I knew I shouldn't have watched this again it spins me right into depression, I literally cry myself dry. No show has ever affected me so strongly before or since.

Forget questions of "best anime ever", and what-not. For me, this is one of the greatest works of art ever - whatever the genre, whatever the medium. As they ask, over and over : "Did it reach them?" The impact of their story has me shell-shocked. It's reached me on so many levels, in so many ways, I'm still trying to unravel it all. This is a story of meaning. This is art.

That Kaori's letter scene... never fails to bring my tears. 🥺 It was a definitely wonderful, but totally sad show. Although I dont like sad ending and resisted to watch it, I changed my mind when you decided to watch. I dont regret but still hurts every time. Thank you for your beautiful reaction.

" I love you" in Your lie in April and " I want to eat your pancreas" in I want to eat your pancreas always hit hard and tears come out unconsciously. The both anime, I want to eat your pancreas and Your lie in April , always take a special place in my heart that no other movie or story can ever take.

I love these reactions so much! I hope I'm not commenting too late. I was really touched by you mentioning everyone who watched this with you at the end. And of course your heart and your connection to the characters makes me feel your emotions. It shows a very human side of you. And that is really wonderful. To experience with you. You seem like a wonderful person just like the characters in this beautiful anime. Also its sad and beautiful how kaori choose to live her life to fullest knowing she probably wouldn't live much longer. The only thing she didn't do is tell Kosei that she loved him. Which is so sad. I loved this journey ^-^

I just finished this anime not to long ago. I don't think I ever cried more. The VAs, Japanese and dubbed, lent so much to bring these characters to life. I was destroyed when the ending happened, but it's a beautiful memory too. Geez, this anime broke me.

If you didn't know, it's a running thing in this show where she'll quote Charlie Brown at the end of episodes or scenes I beleive. SO when she says "Charlie Brown" or "Marcie," she's saying inspirational Peanuts quotes.

I think I seen and finishes this anime in 2015 or 2016, till this day, I go back to those pivotal scenes, and they never fail to make me tear up... the music, the voice-acting, and just the scenes in general were perfection... nostalgia plus feels plus heartwrenching plot are factors that'll definitely get me lol

Watched this show, and specifically this endong over 5 times, and every single time i cry like a baby... holy this still hits like a truck! A true masterpiece The first and only show to leave me staring at my screen for over 10 minutes after finishing it, just staring, without any specific reaction with a knot in my throat...

This anime wrecked me emotionally. The final piano piece hit me the hardest once the violin part started. I had sort of spoiled the ending for myself so I was prepared for that eventual fate. I was not, however, prepared for the violin 😭

this is my second anime. the first one i watched was "your name". it was a happy ending there. but this one has completely shattered my heart. i cry like a baby whenever i watch the edits on youtube. also i can't help but clicking on them. i was trying to delay the final episode, i stopped in the middle when kaori appeared in the final duet. i could sense the sad ending coming. i stopped in the middle, i cried. it's now around 2 am at night. after gathering immense courage i finally finished it. i never cry out loud, maybe i shed a tear when ironman died, but nothing has ever made me cry like this. i'm not sure if i'll continue watching anime, it's so hurting. but as i say this, maybe after a few months i'll rewatch the same anime. i don't know. all i can say, is that it's so heartbreaking. it's too much for me. i'm listening to the songs and crying like anything.. when they mentioned about the surgery, i was optimistic... but it broke my heart so bad. i can't get myself through such a level of pain again and again. but i can't press the "reset button"

That was the first time I listened to Chopin's Ballade no 1 in g minor op 23 (the duet between Kaori and Kousei) and I've been listening to it since then for a thousand times. Then I realised that it was also played in The Pianist. By the way, I think the one that recommended me to watch this anime and the one that later on recommended me Violet Evergarden (soo beautiful too) were allies to make me suffer. Those were the first short animes that I watched.
