In a way it's a genius finale, in how it's damn infuriating, cause it's great, and not only it just end like this, boom finished, but it doesn't even give you the satisfaction of a moment of retribution, I dunno Guts giving us even a tiniest spiritual victory, like scratching Griffith, or escaping the Eclipse, or doing something epic that makes the God Hand guys go "woah, this guy is something else!"... nah, it just finishes in the middle of the worst thing ever happened in anime (tm) xD I remember seeing this years and years ago and being furious for those reasons... for how negative it is and for the realization that there was no season 2 xO But in a way, aside of those considerations, it's a great finale... It is in the sense that it's perfect (at least, for most people) at doing its purpose: gripping the viewer enough so that they will want to read the manga and (oh the irony...) see how it en... end... well how it goes on xO
It's funny that everyone always asks "Is that how it ends?" considering the answer generally is "no, that's how it begins!". This whole anime series is just a huge advertisement to go buy the manga to find out what happens after this flash back arc.
That said, when I first saw this in a vacuum back in 2006, I thought it was a perfect cyclical story. Ep 1: This guy is messed up. Ep 2 through 24: We learn why he is messed up. Ep 25: This guy is messed up. Play Ep 1 over again for full effect.
They made new anime on berserk maybe like in 2016 which was trash because they threw of lot of manga details and the animation feels like watching play station 2 games cutscene
And it’s definitely better to read the manga. I had never reed a manga in my life until I saw the berserk anime, even the prologue in the manga gives you a different perspective on how fd up the world is. The only reason I want this manga to end even if it isn’t faithful to Kentaro Miura’s perspective is to see guts beat the leaving **** out of Griffith.
@@user-fj9gg5jx5zmuiris friend will be the closest thing to faithful we get muiri left blueprints to where his series will go and end so its okay. It would be more criminal to end it when muiri died.
Look up Ninja resurrection anime. That's freaking cliff hanger it ends just like the last Berserk 1997 episode Both Ninja Resurrection and Berserk release in 1997 anime version Fun fact the anime; Ninja Resurrection was based on 1986 manga adaptation which was based on the novel; Makai Tensho(1960s)
I watched this back in 2001 when I was in college. That ending pretty much forced me to seek out and read the manga. Been following it for decades. I was gutted when Miura died. Casca is one of the best female characters in anime. Makes what happens worse. Giffith could have been alright, but so much pride, couldn't acknowledge he had real friends, turned it into weird possessiveness. Judeau was the real one and Pippen was solid.
I had heard about Berserk before but had never seen it. One of the main Reasons why I personally got into the series is because of the Author’s, Miura, passing. My feeds were flooded with Berserk related content and I’m glad I picked it up because wow! I didn’t know what I was missing!
Miura never really gave Casca a personality - her character arc was going from rape victim to rape victim over and over again. The amount of times it happens, her character is simply there just for titillation.
Farnese is10 times better, but thats for another story... how is Casca the best? she challenged for like 4 arcs while Farny is doing all the work. Even Schierke has much greater character development imo.. i dont hate Casca its just she wasnt there and was a damsel in distress just eating and moaning while they were risking their lives
@@ravercorum20thats a baseless accusation. berserk does a really great job of highlighting the dangers of being a woman on the battlefied. reaving and rapine were just tools in the warchest in the times of swords and boards. nobody was safe unless they were rich enough to pay men with swords to protect them.
The events of the eclipse messed me up pretty bad, but Judeau’s death in particular broke me for a little while. I had to go for a long walk after this episode, I was depressed for a few days.
Berserk only get crazier from here. These kids are in for a treat when they get into the manga. All of this is simply to get you into the main story. Guts goes in to real dark places and makes you think about your life and meaning. I love it.
Berserk Memorial Edition came out last year, it adapts the same from the movies, but with additional scenes, the good thing about this version is that it shows how they are saved from the eclipse
Yes. I dare say the best way to watch Berserk for now is 97 until Griffith is captured and then switch to episode 9 of Memorial Edition. Or finish 97 and watch from episode 9 of Memorial Edition.
memorial has some really well done emotional scenes like bonefire of dreams and the promotion ball, had me crying like a baby, goodtimes... plus the fights and the Eclipse is done 10 times better and the Eclipse is actually finished, with the epic arrival of one of the best characters in the series, who they didnt include here... sure the 97 had more episode so they covered more stuff but the memorial really made some scene how they were in the manga like their portrayal of Griffith to me is 10 times better and when they show him his memories they done it so chilling
@@MsGabrielnaruto you know, i think this too.. the 97 anime gives time for the relationships develop.. based only by the movies, Judeau's death doesnt "matter" so much... if you watch de 97 anime though... it gets to you
Just started watching Memorial. It’s good, but the original is superior in almost every way. It’s art in motion. Emotion is conveyed so much better through its art style.
Berserk is the only anime who succesfully made me taste the true feeling of despair, being doomed no matter where you run, where you hide, death will be your only fate. I ve watched this episode sooo many times because this is litterally all the army was just running for their lives, just look how they have been eaten just like candies......
the ending is so abrupt for a reason, it gets you to read the manga. I think it's genius, there's no way you'd watch the entire series, get invested in Guts, Casca and Griffith and not want to read the manga right after the anime.
The soundtrack that plays during the parts when the Band of the Hawk are being slaughtered is some of the most haunting, terrifying things I've ever heard.
best adaption of the Eclipse ever, the storyboarding and the directing are amazing. The movies' version have some really impressive moments, but the aesthetics and the super franctic pacing... I dunno it's not the same imho, it hasn't got the terrible impact this one has...
I agree. Still absolutely astounding how they portrayed it in Memorial edition. But the '97 one is down right eerie and wrenching to see. It especially does a great job at showing how devastating it was to lose the band of the Hawk. Since there was more time to explore what these soldiers meant to us having more time to get to know them.
@@destinyeyoung0128Agree too, the movie version of Guts ripping off his arm is better imo, looks way more panicked and animalistic, however, I didn't really like the shots of Femto R-ing Casca(plus the sounds). In the '97 version you can only hear Guts and the music.
Guts and Griffith are the most compelling characters I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading. After you finish the 97 anime is the best time to start reading the manga.
The 3rd movie shows you how he got out. But yea your gonna have to read the manga like the rest of us, been reading it for over 20 years now. It will never be the same since Miura died but Mori has been doing a good job with it since they started it again.
Read the manga, it's worth it. The anime ends around chapter 40 or so, the manga is now at chapter 375 (?) The story only now starts, this was just backstory
I finished the 1997 anime a couple weeks ago and I remember being so frustrated about the ending and just had to read the manga haha. I'm catching up with the recent chapters now.
i saw this anime when i was like 15 back in early 2000's and had no idea about the manga. when it was over i was traumatized and heart broken by what they did to the hawks. and i was confused where the story went next or if they stopped it. luckily i quickly discovered the manga and i was glad there was more to the story lol.
The last reaction I commented if ye were going to continue with the story...and this answers my question!!! You bought the DVD's AND got a mini Dragonslayer sword! Delighted my brothers and sister 🙏
I don't know if it had ever been brought up already also, but there is a huge skipped battle right before the eclipse with an army called the black dog knights. It's definitely worth reading the manga before the eclipse for that battle because it's Guts first true battle fighting against an apostle. It also gives more depth to the weakened state he was in during the eclipse and shows why he didn't have his sword in the eclipse. (I remember back when I watched the anime I always wondered why he only had the knife and not his giant sword lol)
Such a cruel scene, forged into my eyes as a teenager, really hurts whenever you recall this memory. The rage, the will to destroy femboy Griffith myself shall never go in perish. Can't even un-watch this depressing thing in existence.
Ive always felt like this series taps into something unique. In the sense that Guts, Casca and Griffith are kind of all the main character at the same time. Like the main character of Berserk isnt really one individual, its all of them, and good or bad, its what they have and experience together. Thats the character. Its all of them, and all of us, and thats pretty dope.
We agree that Skull Knight arrived 2 minutes too late. He could have avoided the rape or at least the end of the rape so that the baby was not contaminated and thus prevented Guts from self-mutilating and Casca from being defiled and going crazy. Damage. All because of that asshole Zodd!
I watched his blind in 2011 at the age of 22 and had no idea any of this would happen in the last few episodes. Even at that age, this shit was so heavy I felt effed up for days afterward. I just kept thinking about the storyline over and over again.
Recently watched this berserk 1997!! ENDING FUCKED ME!!! GOT ME DEPRESSED!!! HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA THIS ANIME IS NOT FINISHED AND TOO LONG!!! IT WAS JUST THE BEGGINING!! MINDBLOWN!! After researching man!!! Knowing what i know now! This anime is fucking lit!!! GENIUS!!! RIP!!!!! MIURA!!!
Games similar to berserk or gives you that berserk type of vibe 1. ELDEN RING bc things were inspired by berserk which is confirmed 2. Shadow of war the wars in the game can make you feel like the wars that happens in berserk just with orcs bc of the nemesis system if you don't believe me play berserk music while you play shadow of war and you'll get that feeling especially when it's raining in the game
Somehow, knowing what happens after, makes this episode even worse. The first time I saw this I was so confused at what was going on. I thought it was horrible. But seeing it again after reading the manga makes it even more disturbing
@@igorsouza8208ik I'm caught up with manga and people still say Griffith did nothing wrong (even if it's just a joke) and those people doesn't deserve to live in society.
I was waiting for this reaction and you guys delivered 🔥 I remember when i first watched this episode, i was at a complete loss for words. It still is wild. Griffith gotta die bro.
Read the series . There’s a point where you actually start trusting Griffith again. Whether that be intelligent writing, or because his vision of the world is actually admirable in a way. I can understand why people say Griffith did nothing wrong . But he did wrong. He just did wrong to accomplish a potentially better world. At least in his view . He’s similar to thanos in that way. There must be sacrifices
What a series, you all had great reactions and phenomenal theories all the way to the end!!! I hope after the movies that you consider doing updates every few volumes, take your time of course!!! Don't let some people on the internet make you feel pressured to complete something!!! The anime left on a huge cliffhanger, thankfully I read the manga before watching the anime so I can only imagine how confusing this could be, I don't know if the movies provide anything more but I hope for everyone's sake that it does lmao Probably one of the most popular statements "Griffith did nothing wrong" is extremely valid to have a question about and there's multiple answers because it depends on who's saying it There's some people that genuinely believe that Griffith was right in *everything* he did since the Band members that were sacrificed had little value besides being sacrifices to Griffith in the end. There's people who seperate Femto from Griffith and recognize that what Femto did, Griffith was not directly a part of. Of course there's people who just say it ironically because there's plenty of things that Griffith did wrong, this episode and what he did after Guts won his freedom is evidence of this. There's also people who just don't believe what Griffith did is bad It's safer to not associate with people who say Griffith did nothing wrong because you can't immediately tell what context they're saying it in lol
I think we will do updates on each volume as we read them, this story is so good and definitely need to find out what happens next! We’re debating whether to react to the movies or the memorial edition but either way we want to keep putting berserk related content out because the community is great! And we enjoy engaging in conversation about this masterpiece lol thanks for your feedback bro! Was looking forward to your input in every video!
It's unfortunate that adaptation had to end that way, but if you all have read the manga at this point, you'd know it was because they didn't have the budget to include one of Berserk's most important characters: Skull Knight. He's the one that saves them from the Eclipse, and they couldn't include him, sooo they just had to end it like that lol. I believe there was supposed to be season 2, but it was cancelled. There really is no better way to experience Berserk than through the manga.
Honestly even if you only watch the last movie in the trilogy, it might be worth it because it shows significantly more than how this anime ended. Both the eclipse and after it. Any further than that, I don't know. There's the 2016 one that continues it but we all know what that adaptation is famous for. I guess it's still the last resort if you absolutely can't read the manga.
I really started reading manga just to know what's after. But godamn I shouldn't have restarted it but at the same time too many things are missing like the 10 manga chapters are basically guts fighting demons and figuring out how the behelit and everything works. Also puck is really something
tbf i think caska did "see" judeau but rather as a brother in arms, a comrade..not a lover. which fucking sucks for our homie. but the core group would have all died for each other minus corkus, lover or not.
