Hazbin Hotel is an American adult animated musical comedy television series created by Vivienne "VivziePop" Medrano. The series revolves around Charlie Morningstar, princess of Hell, on her quest to find a way for sinners to be "rehabilitated" and allowed into Heaven, via her "Hazbin Hotel", as an alternative to Heaven's annual "Extermination" of souls due to Hell's overpopulation. The series is produced by SpindleHorse Toons in collaboration with A24, Amazon Studios, and the animation studio Bento Box Entertainment.
The popularity and success of the pilot allowed Medrano to create a spin-off series called Helluva Boss, which premiered on October 31, 2020. The series features a different cast of characters within the same in-universe setting.
As of January 2024, Hazbin Hotel was the largest global debut for a new animated series on Prime Video. In February 2024, the pilot episode surpassed 100 million views on RU-vid.

Yes, Helluva Boss! The pilot is virtually no longer canon, but does provide some vital information. The final 5 episodes of season 2 will be spread out over the rest of the year. Hotel focuses more on female/female relationships, helluva focuses more on male/male relationships. You should be prepared for angst to start towards the end of season one when the show starts to streamline the plot into a more focused topic.

I haven't seen anybody notice this when seeing Carmilla's explanation of what happened on extermination day: She didn't know she could kill exorcists. She said she was planning to "buy time for her daughters to get away." She wasn't planning on surviving that. Her daughters were in danger, and she was 100% ready to die for them on the spot

Lucifer only got involved with the extermination because Razzle or Dazzle died as a sacrifice (sacrificial lamb) and that Adam went after Charlie and harmed her. Charlie was supposed to be safe from the extermination because she was born in hell and not a human soul that died and went to hell. Also i think Nifty is a fallen overlord like Husker.

Razzle was born in Hell as well. The mere act of Lute killing Razzle is what allowed Lucifer to enter the fight. Adam trying to kill Charlie was just extra reason to take it extremely personally.

4:28 this is a reference to how rosie knows, but alastor doesn't, that he is asexual. He just thought that he hadn't found a woman to love, yet. Rosie can tell, but alastor is still an ace "in the hole", not acknowledging it, because when he died, in the swinging 1920's, aro and ace are not labeled, thinking they had not found the one to love.

Also based on the context of Rosie’s quote (saying he couldn’t possibly be *dating* Charlie since he’s ‘an ace in the hole’) and Vivienne’s words on why she won’t confirm or deny his supposed aromanticism being “I don’t want to ruin anyone’s fun” makes it pretty clear he’s meant to be aromantic as well as asexual

There's a sketch viv did with angel, chatlie and alastor. Each have a heart above their head color coded to their pride flags. Angel's is rainbow for gay, charlies is the bi flag colors, and alastors is grey, black, white and purple for asexual, but not the green that indicates aromantic @@echolynn13

There's a theory that Adam proposed the extermination just to get back and Lucifer for ruining both his wives. He doesn't actually believe any of it, he just wants to piss Lucifer off and make him pay. But Lute... Lute is a true believer. She believes with every single atom of her soul that they are right in slaughtering the sinners. If it was up to her, and now it is, she'd wipe every last one out every single purge. And the part very VERY few ever mention is that Lilith did a deal with Lute for Adam to die. To stay in heaven by the sound of it. But now Lute is telling Lilith to deal with Charlie so she doesn't screw up Lute's plans. I'm guessing Lucifer will have something to say about that. And it will probably help that he found himself again.

As an update on season 2, in recent interviews the voice of Charlie said the voice actors wrapped season two, but it still needs to be animated. According to the creator (Vivienne) it’ll be at least another year from now but she assures that the wait won’t be as long as fans waited between the pilot and the series. People really have no idea just how long animation takes. The average for a broadcast TV show is 8 - 9 months of animation work PER EPISODE. With Helluva Boss we were just watching episode 1 and the team was deep into animation on episodes 2 and into episode 3 as well. Final prep was likely happening on 4 at the same time. There is time to compose the background music which has to come after scenes are completed to match up. Final editing, sound mix. Animating a single episode is a massive amount of work. The fight in Helluva 1x6 ended up being way more complex and work than they thought it would be and added an additional 4 months to the process. Even Disney, with all of their animators, talent, and infinite money takes 5 years to wrap their films. And they have an extremely well established pipeline set up.

Fun fact: the only reason Lucifer took so long to get to the fight was that it would go against his deal with heaven to protect the sinners. But, since Charlie was hurt (which broke the angels half of the deal) he could actually join in :

It was Razzle's death that broke the deal. Lute killed Razzle (a sacrificial lamb as a reference back to the song in 1x5 as well as being hell born). Adam going after Charlie was just a reason for Lucifer to take it extremely personally and really show Adam just how pathetic he is.

If you want more adult animation with great music, I can recommend the Legend of Vox Machina. It's not a musical, but there's still a bunch of good songs in there. Two seasons out so far, with a third one being worked on right now, and possibly two more coming (though not confirmed). It's based on a very popular DnD stream, but I don't want to spoil too much because I love seeing people go in completely blind and be surprised at every turn.

so you're correct, there is proof that the hotel works, but Charlie and the rest in the hotel don't know. Unless someone tells them they wont know, and will keep trying different things, I would be surprised if anyone actually tells them Pentious was redeemed. we stan our MVP Nifty. ~

Still find it funny he is calling Alastor the "dad that stepped up" when he literally this episode made Charlie make a deal with him before giving her the info she needed. You should watch helluva boss next!!! It's set in the same hellaverse as hazbin hotel but focuses on the hellborn and the other rings of hell (human sinners can't leave lucifers pride ring as part of his punishment for giving eve the apple, only allowed to see the bad humans chose with free will). This is evidenced by the side of the mail van charlie rides in the pilot says helluvapost and one of the characters (Loona) in helluva boss is shown watching Charlie's interview with tom and katie about the hazbin hotel

Vox I just love how his whole personality is a commentary on how bad big media is lol... But among the "good guys" it's gotta be Sir Pentious and Lucifer. since you loved hazbin hotel so much you should watch its sister show helluva boss! same creator, and same universe but it focuses more on the demons born in hell! it’s all on youtube and we’re getting 5 new episodes this year!

Is it just me, or is owing Alastor a favor potentially WORCE than him owning your soul…it seems like for the most part he lets his thralls do whatever they want unless he needs them for something…owing him a favor on the other hand…he could cash that in at any time and it could be ANYTHING, granted, it’s a one time thing, but at least if he own your soul, there’s still a CHANCE he won’t call you up for a favor
