Fact about this video: the song had become so successful that the band was asked to appear on a British music show called Top of the Pops in a week. Not wanting to appear in person because they thought it'd kill the excitement, they decided to create a music video. This video was the result and it was finished with mere hours to spare before it was due to appear on TV.

My mum used to walk around the house singing “Star Trekking across the universe” for years when I was little, she couldn’t remember the rest of it and only could remember that part. She rewatches all of the series (all the time, it’s the only thing she watches) from start to the latest ones and ended up getting me into Star Trek, I’ve officially watched every series and season from Kirk to the new Picard. Once I finished, the lyrics randomly popped into my head so I gave it a google and found this. I showed it to her (once again her only singing that one part for my whole life, I’m in my early 20’s now) and she literally laughed so hard and was so excited. Watching this 60 something year old woman jumping up from the chair just to sing and dance to this song was amazing 😂

Many many moons ago, I used to do a bit of karaoke, this one song nearly got me banned permanently from my local, the fact every customer was laughing saved me. The guy running the karaoke had his wife slamming his back as he couldn't breathe, the bar staff were slamming the bar with their hands with their heads down in their arms, people were on the floor in stitches, I did the whole song, accents and all, all the way through, it was a one off performance, never to be repeated.

The DJ on our local morning show in the late 80s/early 90s played this once every morning. We were usually on the bus about the time that it would come on and the whole load of us kids would sing along much to the chagrin of the bus driver but she was a good sport about it.
One of my earliest memories is my dad having this on vinyl and i used to put it on the highest rpm so it sounded like alvin and the chipmunks. Hours of fun lol

Close enough, but not quite 40 years. This first hit the UK charts in June 1987, so 37 years ago. I vaguely remember listening to this when it was first released and I quite liked it. Apologies to my mum and brother for having to put up with my music, I don't think they liked it much!

At my first high school in Scarborough, we had a walk-a-thon called Scar Trek. Every year they`d call us into the auditorium and play this song to raise morale!

can't believe i havent heard this since it first came out! was a big hit in Australia too, even tho Star Trek wasn't one of those things played a lot on tv (here) at the time. By the early 90's i had a job at a small '"art house"cinema and we would show 2 episodes of the original ST tv show (on 16mm celluloid reels) on a Saturday morning and would always get a good solid core crowd each time. I've never forgotten this song,though , but i had forgotten how insane the clips is!
what added to the huge popularity of this song was the fact that the original star trek was still airing , and the voiceovers were so good and funny that many people actually thought it was the star trek crew doing their stuff !
Except Mr. Scott, a Scottish accent is not easy and they don't pull it off. That said, I love all the versions of this great song. "It's worse than that, he's dead Jim" has been my comment watching many movies and TV shows. Thanks to Dr. Demento for helping get this out to the world.
This came out 18 YEARS AGO!..... I just- I don't even know how to feel about that. This video alone, was a vast part of my childhood and development. I needed this video to become who I am today. I am not exaggerating when I say, I'm only who I am because of this video. So much of my personality/ enjoyment of life is rooted in me watching this video. Probably 15 years ago. Fr. Man this is a nostalgia trip. I remember watching this back when it was uploaded. My parents showed this video to me when I was 8 because I found my old toddler toys including a weird chicken toy with star and moon patterns and I couldn't understand why my parents referred to it "Star-Chicken across the universe." It was one of the first songs I ever learned all the lyrics to and remains in my music collection to this day.
This is one of those songs that, out of nowhere, will just pop back into your head and make you go looking for it. I know, because that just happened to me, five minutes ago 🤣

I work at an Alamo Drafthouse Cinema and we had this video in the preshow for Star Trek. After listening to it every day for a month, I wanted to bash my head into a wall multiple times.

Back in 1987 my family went on holiday to Butlins (either Bogner Regis or Skegness-I can't remember which now) and almost every evening in the nightclub there were two songs that they played. The first is this one-Star Trekkin by The Firm. Even now, after 37 years, whenever this is played I can still remember the bright, multicolored lights and the thumping music of the club with this blasting out whilst everyone sat around drinking and dancing. 😃

As a once proud Trekkie from the start who could recite whole scenes and stood in line for hours to see the Movie, II, III, and IV... I never even knew this existed until now. It was a nice run while it lasted. 🙁
