I always thought the narrator doing the dance was the most hilarious part. Since he is not in the room he is presumably just dancing in silence in front of nobody
His name is Charles Grey, he was in the British Movie "The Devil Rides Out" with Sir Christopher Lee (A real life SAS Hero that served in WW2) but yes Charles Grey was doing the Narration for the Audience and had no interaction with the Cast, he was edited in afterwards and nobody knew that until much later during an interview and despite being a serious Actor starred in many Movies he really loved doing Comedy, like the Black Comedy "The House In Nightmare Park" (1973) with Frankie Howard who also Starred in the Carry On Movies with Kenneth Williams, Charles Hawtree (I think I spelt his surname wrong) Joan Sims and Sidney "Sid" James.
@@kevnwarriner8819 Just a y at the end of Hawtrey; but he wouldn't have cared. He'd be grateful you knew who he was. I am getting into the older movies again, so, many thanks for posting the information Charles Grey. I shall seek out some of his films now.
Susan was screaming on the inside because when this scene was filmed, she had a high fever and was very sick. The set was also very cold in temperature. She was absolutely miserable
some of yall have never taken a jump to the left, a step to the right, put your hands on your hips, and put your knees inside and its the pelvic thrust that really drives you insane and it shows
My Goddaughter loves the music and show; I would give anything to take her to see The Rocky Horror Show production. And embarrass the life out of here by dressing up and dancing! With everything that has gone on for me since last year... I need to do something that will ignite a passion for life! Richard O'Brien, if he has taught us nothing else... Richard has taught us to be true to ourselves and have a passion for life!
When this movie first came out on 1975, it actually failed at the box office and was considered a bomb. But when the movie was shown at midnight theatres instead, it became very popular and as a result, it’s now considered one of the greatest musicals of all time.
I saw this for the first time in 1976 in a small auditorium at a college, with just a handful of people in the audience, and I wondered what the heck this was all about. Three years later I was the emcee for the first regular midnight showing at a theater, handling the costume contest on the stage, with my hair bleached white and wearing a white tuxedo.
In 1981, it was the opening of the midnight double feature, followed by the “Song Remains the Same”. If you didn’t “Smoke”, you (I) was wasted when it was all over. You know the FUN years. Went to a midnight showing a couple years ago (2018), it was PACKED! Bread, Newspapers, it had it all. Fun as hell
The director wanted to pay homage to the wizard of oz, so when the recording was done the Transylvanians track was sped up so the vocals would be higher pitched like the munchkins
We had a theatre here in Vegas that had this showing on Saturdays, we all screamed WHERES YOUR F**KING NECK? whenever the professor came on. Whole movie was just a blast in the theatre
richard o'brien screaming ''like you're under sedation'' is a defining moment in my life :P it just comes out of nowhere with passion and power ....still gives me shivers :)
YES!! Made Janet faint. But he wrote it and has such a powerful voice, so glad he was in this movie version. Wish I could have seen the stage performance.
Met Richard at the Warwick Preview of Top People…. Oh how do you tell the author it was awful?? He came to talk to us at half time as we were planning to leave! ,…um well, waffle! Sorry, Richard! But such a nice guy!
It's pure AF As soon as he screams 'I remember...' my whole body shakes. That leg thing cracks me up every time haha Of course he's the best part of the song, it's his vision and I love him
I was in high school when someone asked me if I knew the time warp and asked me to do it with them. Best moment ever in my heart. This was what people call a "cultural reset.". This is ICONIC!!!!!
I hope the continuation of that story is that you and the time warper ended up getting married and did the time warp up the aisle? With Frank as your officiant? Because that’s a perfect meet cute right there.
54 years old...was blessed to have been able to see this in the theaters OVER AND OVER again as everyone acted everything out in the audience!!! HAD THE BIGGEST CRUSH ON MAGENTA AND COLUMBIA...
A lot of people say that Sweet Transvestite is the best song in Rocky Horror Picture Show, and while I can agree that it's a great song, my overall favorite has always been Time Warp. I just love the parts when Riff Raff and the others attending that party say "Let's do the Time Warp again..." It always puts a smile on my face. Now if only Janet didn't faint so many time while they were singing.
My favorite thing about this movie isn’t the movie itself, but the fanbase. Everyone I’ve met who loves this movie was just a genuinely awesome person. It’s like Richard o Brien perfectly captured the best people with this movie.
401 eastbound Ontario Canada loaded tractor trailer Bound for Montreal, freezing rain running through eastern Ontario at 2:00 in the morning, and the time warp comes on the radio, that's what I started doing the time warp in the cab of my tractor, it's what gets you through the night man LOL I love this song since I saw The Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Stratford Drive-In, well hell it just doesn't get any better than this LOL
There are not many cult movie musicals out there, but Rocky Horror is probably THE best known of them all! And it STILL holds up well after all these years.
I remember a long while ago a local theater was playing this for a midnight screening. This part came on and there were people in the audience that actually were dressed like the party goers. They got out in the aisles and were dancing in time with the film. It was freaking -AWESOME- Man...if only that place didn't shut down, apparently they ran Rocky Horror Picture Show every year on halloween for a midnight screening. D:
It wasn't until a bunch churches began complaining and protesting did I decide I wanted to go see it. I did and, as described, audience participation was the norm. It was a pure freak show ... and awesome. It had to be 1978 or so. Still enjoy the show.
We gotta bring this back. We gotta start getting friends together and going out in public somewhere then outta nowhere just bust in to doing the time warp lmfao. What a reaction that would get
About 20 years ago I was bass guitarist in a jazz band in the city of Tauranga, New Zealand ... the saxophone player happened to be the older brother of Richard O'Brien who turned up one night to our weekly gig while on holiday from the UK. The band gave him the stage and an electric guitar along with the drummer and myself. After ripping through some good old 1950s Rock n Roll suddenly he was playing and singing the Time Warp song and I was in utter disbelief that I was backing the genius who not only wrote that incredible song but the whole marvellous show.
@@nigelhearne8368 Thanks Nigel, certainly an experience to remember. Richard now lives a quieter life in the Tauranga district where he grew up. As a young man he worked as a barber in the nearby city of Hamilton, next door to the former Embassy Theatre in the main street. Apparently the late night features shown at that theatre gave him the inspiration for Rocky Horror. On the site where the theatre stood there is now a statue of Richard in his Riff Raff role.
I lived in Rotorua from 91-97, remember seeing a Jazz band there at a Jazz Club. I think most band members wore Fez type hats, I was wondering if I saw your band!
@@BassGirlSusan1961 Hi! That rings a bell but was not us. Our band was Dr Jaz and headed by an actual doctor, Neil McKenzie. We did play Rotorua once in 1999 as part of a tour of the upper North Island following the Bay of Islands Jazz Festival and also did a gig in Tokoroa where we recorded the performance and turned it into a successful CD. Sadly Dr Neil McKenzie passed away a few years later from cancer and the band ended. The night Richard O'Brien turned up in Tauranga you could say he was a little different in appearance from the usual Bureta Tavern crowd. Clean-shaven head and black clothes from chin to toe. I think he really enjoyed himself though.
@@stephenbenner1608 Ah no then, I was back in Brisbane by "99. The Richard O"Brien experience you would not forget. Incidentally my late Mother in Law lived in lovely Tauranga, in Bellvue Rd if memory serves me right. Long time ago now. :)
When this film first came out, a friend introduced me to the album first and then went to the theatre to watch the movie. Truly, two different completely different stimulations. In the theatre, folks dressed the part, danced in the isles, threw toast, truly amazing experience.
@@bubbyberry Well it looks like it became a cult classic with audience participation in 1976, the year after the film came out. Also, if their friend made them listen to the soundtrack album before going to see it, it likely was a little after the debut. So forgive someone for missing a small detail from 45... nearly 50... years ago that it hadn't "just" come out, but was still relatively new. It doesn't make them a liar just means they misremembered or didn't know a detail.
A tradition of the midnight shows where people stood in line, all dressed up in costumes to interact with the movie screen. Great fun, no judgement or prejudice.
I always loved the tone of the guitar on this song, the bassline is also very fun too! Also dam! To the singer who's got the real high parts in the chorus
Richard O'Brien is such a bright guy. Great musician and a good actor. He seemed to know exactly what was required during this musical. I don't doubt that it was such a hit because of his skills. Memorable over 30 years later, WOW!
I was lucky enough in 1996 when I was a junior in high school to have friends who played this classic for me. I've known every word to every song for almost 30 years.❤
One of the best parts of college was the midnight show dressed as your favorite character. That was a long time me ago. We used to dress up for the midnight show of Monty Python and the Holy Grail too. Such fun times
Listening to this takes me back to a warm spring Friday night in 1979. Me and a friend from high school went to the midnight showing at the Little Village Theater in Grosse Point Michigan. Two 17 year olds watching the audience dressed up and singing, throwing toast, holding newspapers over their heads and everyone wearing lingerie even a lot of guys. Totally overwhelming and fascinating and hilarious. The whole world was opening up and we were just starting our adult lives. Graduating that spring and joining the Marines seems a million miles away and a long long time ago. Damn I’m old!
Dennis..... I was there with you. It was a magical time. In my heart, I believe I'm still that young person who dressed up as Riff Raff. The theater is long gone. It's been gutted and serves as offices now. Time moves on. Memories last forever. The mirror of today lies, there's an old man looking back at me.
I saw it around that time, maybe earlier, when it did the art cinemas after bombing in the main cinemas. I'd first heard about it in Cosmopolitan magazine and was truly gutted when I missed the first showings. Its been my absolute favourite movie ever since the first time I saw Time Warp, then it became my daughter's and now its my granddaughter's!
It definitely was a fun experience. I loved those midnight shows. We used to watch Monty Python and the Holy Grail too. We would dress up and clap our coconuts together while reciting our favorite lines. Our grandkids would laugh if they knew
In 79-81 every weekend we would do the characters below the theater screen. I got play Riff Raff almost a year. What a blast. Hope you have the time of your life.
Sarandon and Bostock we're perfect nerds for this movie. Along with Charles Gray from Bond movies . The casting director had the perfect casting for this movie. No words needed. For Tim Curry
It was so fun , wish i could load up a car load of people and go to The Neon theater in Dayton Ohio again but, i cant find the live show anywhere anymore. It was a great time !
This is such a nostalgic classic! When I was a kid my mom would put this on and we’d dance together to the Time Warp. I also loved the tap dancing girl and danced along with her!
I took a youth and rebellion class in college. We had to watch this movie as part of the curriculum. Extra credit is we dressed up. Hands down my favorite class
I saw the original stage production, King’s Road Theatre, London in 1975! Many performers in the Picture Show were there, and a live band on duty…I’ll never forget it!
I want to know who the musicians were on this song because they freaking smashed!!! The piano player 🤯🤯🤯 the bass player on the refrain!!! Amazing musicians, this is one of my favorite rock and roll songs, such a hoot, so much fun, super cool harmony in the refrain. Love love love
I remember doing this in high-school, I was new to the country ,didn't have a clue what it was ,so happy I did drama class ,I have this performance forever in my memory.
In 87, in Miami FL, when I was 24, my girlfriend took me to see the movie for the first time. People would get in front of the screen, dressed in part, and singing and dancing and act out with the movie. It was like nothing I have experienced before. I loved it.
I have taken part in Rocky Horror Picture Show participation events since they first began. You don't just get in front of the stage and dance but you also bring a bunch of props to throw and you also have call backs that you snipe at the movie here and there. It is it's a total blast. I have been so many times in decades I can't even keep count.
Too bad the theaters dont do it anymore smh i used to love loading up my big ole Lincoln with friends & head to The Neon Theater in Dayton Ohio 🥳 great time & diffrent experience everytime!
@@roomorris9005 yes I miss that also. Every once in awhile here when the theater will have it on Halloween Eve however it will be a very diluted version from what it originally was. They won't let you bring rice or toast what word has two props at all and they claim that it's too messy to clean up that's why they will not allow them. I mean what's going to rhps without the props!
Oh, this movie NEEDS to be aired NOW. ESPECIALLY in states like FL. Some people's heads would explode! It's an idea whose time has come. And why not show it at theaters? Go for it!!
What a 🤡. They still do midnight showings in Florida. Just went to one the weekend before Halloween. What a sad existence that you can't talk about absolutely anything, even Rocky Horror without bringing up your politics.
@@mark8839 1.) Just because Rhonda Sandtits is engaging in queer genocide, doesn't mean he's necessarily stamped it out. He and his enablers still need to be stopped. 2.) Don't think I didn't see you bring up YOUR politics. I've seen the message boards; I know what you _really_ mean with clown imagery.
A really thoughtful boyfriend took me to see this movie back in the day at the Avalon Theater in Algiers, La. I had no idea why he had a grocery bag full of odd items until the audience participation began. What a brilliant night! And many thereafter...
Was played once a week at a local movie theatre and we’d turn up with all the props - newspaper etc and copy all the moves. This went on for about 10 yrs. Best night ever for audience participation.
Snuck in to watch in ‘75 as a 14yo (2-18 restriction on film in South Africa) was stunned to see the South African flag upside down - indicating distress - never found out if this was planned or just a mistake but it gave me a good laugh.
Some friends took me to see Rock Horror for the first time in 1979 or so in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and did not tell me anything about it other than it was about a bisexual transvestite from outer space. When people started lighting lighters, throwing toast, shooting water pistils and everything, I freaked out (You can't do that in a theater!) . By the end of the movie, I was hooked and saw it several more times, got the dvd and even performed this song in a nightclub where I worked part time as a drag queen. I've also performed Science fiction double feature and I can make you a man (including reprise) and can finally do the time warp without messing it up. In the scene after Columbia sings her part, when it shows the Transylvanians lined up, the one second from the end is the performer who every one said I resembled the most.
This is so unique, the crew is singing the time warp. I recall the bold singer in an extra movie with Anthony Quinn "The shoes of the fisherman announcing the new pope who was from Russia. Same reel 0.55 its just a jump to the left....
This was at its height of popularity when I was in high school. I was in drama and did local theater until I married. We did this during my senior year. The teacher took us to New York to c it. We all dressed in character and had a Blast. It seemed like there was always some where to c it during Halloween. It will always have a tender place in my heart. And I Still know the dance! Can't remember where I put my car keys but can remember the Time Warp.
This song, the acting and singing ... absolutely perfect! I watched it again with my daughter in a Munich cinema that plays the movie since JUNE 1977 !! ... world record.
Still love watching The Criminologist (the late Charles Gray) so into his part of this song. it was totally unexpected a part of the film that made it even more enjoyable.
Serious smileage here! 😁 always the highlight of the whole RH experience. Never found out if rhe stage in that Hollyweird theatre could accommodate everyone, cuz there were always some that stayed in their seats. Prolly luded out on 714s..
The old lady Transylvanianc was Peggy Ledger an Irish actress born in 1900 who was 74 when this was filmed she would later appear in the series You're Only Young Twice
I am going to have a boast, I have actually been to this place that they filmed in. I was in costume at a wedding reception of 2 Rocky fans who had a "Straight" wedding reception in the afternoon, and then a proper reception in the evening in full Rocky Costume. The place is called Oakley Court and is near Windsor. I have also been to several Rocky Conventions in England and met Richard O'Brien and Patricia Quinn(Magenta). :)) Going to a Rocky Horror show should be on every body's bucket list. :))
3:00 I truly admire Nell's tap dance part every time i watch this movie. I could watch that all day long! I swear, I wish I was that good at tap dance 😍 It's so difficult tho.
Before we were old enough to get into Bars, our Friday night was as the Graham Theater in Gerritsen Beach Brooklyn to see this. Literally almost every Friday. Getting a little lit and sometimes dressing up. This was our night out. Dancing in the aisles and singing every song. RIP Meatloaf.
Back around 2008 or so I was stationed in Mannheim Germany in the Army. A bunch of us done the Rocky Horror Picture Show at the bar in base. I played Rocky, mainly because no one else was willing to run around in nothing but a speedo, but I didn't give a shit, there's was no shame in my game.....LOL.
In 1983, I attended my First midnight showing of the Rocky Horror Picture Show at Wright Patterson AFB, Ohio.... I was 17yrs of age... The mass of people outside, and a few were dressed up... those that came dressed up found out this was my first time seeing the show... I got labeled VIRGIN!! :) ha ha ha... Then, they told me they needed a RIFF RAFF to be stage with them... They said it would break me in... so I accepted... IT WAS FUN!! !! :) Been Riff Raff ever since... :) He had the best parts! Especially opening of the music, like the Time Warp... :) LOVED IT!!
If you love this film and you ever happen to be in Munich/Germany on a Friday evening, go watch it there at the cinema that has had it running for decades now every Friday evening. People go watch it dancing, dresses up, throwing confetti and having fun. You won't regret!!!
Not only is this the best exercise ever, especially when I am depressed, but I studied Italian for two years and it's a really great way to brush up. 🤷🏽♀️😳😁😁😁👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽💃🏽💃🏽💃🏽
It's not inappropriate***, it's a classic. The best musical I've ever seen, Hell, the only one I've ever been interested in sitting through. It's a really good story, actually, give it a chance, don't hate on it just because their a little different. If you did that with everyone you seen or known, you'd have no friends.
Time Warp wasn't always a part of RHPS, it was made when (i think its the guy who plays riff raff, the guy who wrote the original play) decided that if it was going to be a musical it needed a dance number
The moment when you realize that you know all the lyrics and words of pretty much the whole movie. Guess I´ve been watching this a few times since the early 80´s. :)
