The First Ever Rumble from 1988 Relived In WWE 2K!! 

Love classic old school resting. A lot of my created wrestlers have that old school feel for the most point. Not so much flash. Guys that look larger than life.

The irony of Butch Reed being called The Natural with dyed blonde hair was never lost on me, even back in 88.

Today marks 35 years since the first ever Rumble! Today we replay it in hilarious fashion!!!

I was stunned a few years ago when I found out Sam Houston is Jake the Snake's real life brother. I had no idea.

Jake Roberts, Sam Houston and Rockin' Robin were half siblings (same dad).

Sam Houston, half brother of Jake the snake the snake btw, had serious alcohol problems that derailed his career and life. Dude went to jail for 10 years

I suggest occasionally throwing in an old school rumble for this season. Like 1996 or 2000 and so on. It's cool seeing all the old wrestling guys again!

I watched this rumble a couple of weeks ago on the WWE RU-vid Channel, and I forgot that at the time heels never fought heels and the faces never fought faces. It was only heels vs faces, which made for an interesting First Royal Rumble to say the least. How times have changed in in wrestling from the last 36 years.

In real life, Sam Houston was the half brother of Jake the snake Roberts. He was also the brother of rock ‘n’ roll who was women’s champion around this time. All three were the children of grizzly Smith.

This was an awesome Rumble. I was 10 in 1988 when this Rumble was aired. I was and still a huge Hulk Hogan fan.

Loved the tribute Rumble! I used to have those silicon wrestling figures, too. Mom got them for Me before I started watching wresting. I really favored Junkyard Dog, Hacksaw, and those others that came with Accessories. I'm glad they made them each unique in size, as well.

Where was I? At the show I was 16 years old, when we walked in to Copps, we didn't realize this was a TV event, our minds where blown away with the arena all light up.

Fun fact. Back when this was brought up, everyone except for Vince thought it was a good idea. Vince thought that no one would be into it at all. So he basically said okay fine. Let's make it 20 men and just do it just to see what happens. So that is all the first Royal Rumble was. Just a test match to see if people cared.

Where was I in 1988? I was there. I was born in September, so I wasn't there for the first Rumble, but I was there for the second Survivor Series.

I had Tito Santana as El Matador. And his arm is spring loaded. He was fun to play with. I’d hit army men toys into blocks and make explosion noises. So pretty much Tito was a weapon of mass destruction lol

Being that it’s Royal Rumble season, I watched 1988 RR a few days ago, it’s amazing how far it’s come. My favourite event of the year! Fun fact Sam Houston is Jake Roberts half brother.

Sam Houston is the half brother of Jake Roberts. He was married to Baby Doll in NWA but got divorced. He was taken down the card as a results and was never given a good push in WWF.

Did you know one man gang was also the last person eliminated in the First World War 3 60 man battle royal in wcw… he also made it to the final 3 in the 1989 rumble I don’t think he appeared in any others… perhaps the greatest runner up in royal rumble/ big battle royals history!

For being a 20 man, it still was exciting as heck! I was a lil over 8 years old, and a huge WWF fan at the time.

That's a classic I lived in Michigan at the time. Before PPV, it was regularly televised as a special on TV. We recorded it on VHS at the time. Yes Bret was a heel at the time hence why nobody liked him and booed him. It looked like for a minute there, Butch Reed was going to win it, he definatly for the most wrestlers eliminated, I think? I was going for Hacksaw in this one too, to relive history. So then I switched over to Butch Reed before btw for eliminated, then hoping Nickoli Volkoff or JYD would win? What happened to Sam Houston? Baby Doll aka Nickla Roberts. He had a great run in 1985-86 in NWA getting beat down by the Horseman but they fell in love and it hurt both their careers as Sam went to Central States, the UWF then WWF and Nickla got fired for showing up at WWF matches. Think that stain was still there when he got fed up being a jobber to the stars and left in '91
