Wonderful to see this great horse win all the chips. But watching Secretariat still simultaneously gives me goosebumps and brings tears to my eyes. The greatest athlete I ever saw.
Secretariat had talent but most of all he had swagger and a will to win that broke any horse he raced against. He would run your horse into the ground and have fun doing it. Truly an incredible athlete and competitor.
Sadly there was only one Secretariat. I doubt there will ever be another. Praise God for bringing such a majestic horse to the world -a horse that has inspired billions of people over many generations. Who could ever tire of watching his Belmont stakes win.
With much to respect owed to American Pharoah for his feat of thr Ultimate prize: The triple crown! There will be only 1 Secretariat, his duels with another super horse named Sham were legendary during to earn that triple crown. In stable of those great triple crown winners all those greats that won will still look to Secretariat as the standard.
Yes the first "grand slam" winner. However no other Triple Crown winner could've been a contender, so that a skewed statistic. The first BC was 1984. The last Triple Crown winner, was 1973. Justify didn't run in the 2018 Classic, after that ankle injury that kept him out of the Haskell & Travers.
The grand slam used to be the 3 triple crown races and the travers. Whirlaway is to this day the only horse to have done that. (AP tried but lost the travers).
Secretariat was and always will be the greatest most full of character that ever stepped on the track. I still enjoy watching these majestic animals do their thing. No horse ever will compare to the GREAT SECRETARIAT.
@@ruthlickey7043I race, and unfortunately some horses need to be under the whip, just like the horse that i rode yesterday, i put him under the whip for the whole race.
I’m an avid horse racing fan from Australia and very keenly follow America’s Triple Crown. It was brave but gut-wrenching to see horses just miss out after winning the first two legs. I was absolutely thrilled to see that 37 year drought broken, in 2015. To see ANOTHER, a mere THREE years later was fantastic, too. Like legends Affirmed and Secretariat, American Pharaoh, I’ve now seen it’s progeny race here. Unrelated, 1973’s legendary winner, Secretariat, was sire to the horse which still holds the record for the fastest ever Melbourne Cup, Kingston Rule, (at 3:16.3 for 3200m) …which was 33 years ago.
@@aq2819 whilst I somewhat agree with you, I was principally referring to America’s Triple Crown, and one of the rare winners being sire to a top Australian-based horse. You can’t deny though, any horse (aided by both luck and brilliant riding) which achieves those winning streaks (Black Caviar with 25 and Winx 33), doesn’t deserve due kudos… however good or better ‘similar’ foreign champions may be.
What an immaculate champion. Hell of a legacy - the one and only Grand Slam Champion...that 2015 triple crown was a truly legendary sporting moment that completely transcended racing - that doesn't happen much.
I remember not being into horse racing at the time but seeing this make global news and falling in love with American Pharaoh. An absolute power house such a well self managed horse.
I got home from work that day just in time to see the race. My eyes were "glued" to the TV and sat on the edge of the couch, saying, "Go,fella, you can do it! Go,go,GO! GO!GO!..." as tears ran down my face.He crossed the finish line and I was stunned. "He did it, he did it! He won the Triple Crown! WOO-HOO!!!" And he made it look so easy! That was one of the best Birthday presents I ever had! Yeah, June 6th was also my Birthday.
American Pharoah is indeed one of a kind. You have made racing history with that win. Incredible, impossible achievement and yet, there it is, on the record books. What a horse.! He needs to have kindness and love for the rest of his existence. I hope he is entire and he goes to stud. Many people are comparing this horse with Secretariat and I do not think that is a fair comparison. Racing surfaces were different and though faster, more dangerous. Today’s surfaces are slower but safer. You cannot tell how many lengths ahead of the field AP would have been in similar conditions but they will never be replicated so the comparisons are groundless theoretical hypotheses and may not be proven unless there is a formulae to work it out using a mathematical basis.
Such a special horse. So many great memories. If u ever get a chance to see his statue at Oaklawn in Hot Springs, do it. U won’t regret it. A horse of a lifetime!
Secretariat’s 1/14 mile split in the Belmont was faster than his still stakes record time in the Kentucky Derby: 1:59 v 159.2. And Secretariat ran negative splits in the Derby. Both things I just mentioned are astonishing to this day….
Not the horse of a lifetime, not as long as me and my peers are still around. We remember Secretariat's domination of the Triple Crown, and we can still tell you the number of lengths he won the Belmont by. (Thirty-one, just so you know.) I watched all three of Secretariat's races.
Thanks to all involved who accomplished this. BOB BAFFERT you are a genius trainer. I am so glad your friend got you to switch your interest from Quarter horses to the beautiful Thoroughbreds. What HISTORY...❤❤❤❤❤
What a beautiful strong finish! Me and my Dad watched Secratariot win the Crown on TV together! Eric Underwood Class of 81 Downey High school Downey California
Everybody's 4 getting about mine that bird in 09 ran 1st, 2nd & 3rd in the triple crown...and in the Kentucky Derby from dead last by 50 links caught up with the pack on the last turn and was passing them like they were standing still and won by 9 links...In The Mud !!!...Now that's a Horse with a Big Heart... I Miss Going 2 the Races.
I clapped for AP, but when I rewatch the great Secretariat’s TC, especially the Belmont, I shed tears. AP won to, but Big Red did it with a statement!!
EDUCATE YOURSELF. More weight back then , Heavyweight Horse shoes and Guess what?? Still behind in TIME!! M.O W and Secretariat arefar better than this horse.@@clubbonfireproductions4694
I’m in my office in Nashville and I told a business associate, American Pharoh will win the triple crown. I’ve picked 9 derby winners and two triple crown winners. Justify, and this Colt. I picked Always Dreaming. My daughter said I picked Mystic Dan for her and I took Sierra Leone. I know that, but I thought I’d lost. But no. 😅
This was a great race!! Never get tired of seeing it!! Secretariat had his time, we was glad!! Now?? 37 yrs later after the LONG DROUGHT!! American Pharaoh FINALLY Made It Hapoen!! Then Justify Came Along To Make It 13 Triple Crown Winners!! Hopefully, we will have Number 14, In Time!!
I noticed with interest that American Pharaoh has 2 separate lines of Bold Ruler blood. AP is a great, great, great grandson of both Secretariat & Secretariat’s sire, Bold Ruler. AP’s dam, “Little Princess Emma“, descends from Secretariat via his daughter “Terlingua.” AP’s sire, “Pioneer of the Nile“, descends from Bold Ruler via his son “Key to the Kingdom.”
Y al pueblo racista,,,,no le gusto que fuera Victor Espinoza,,,un profesional humilde y manzo de CORAZÓN,,,que DIOS lo bendice,,,, saludos desde Tijuana bendiciones 😇🙌
Nobody closed like zenyatta. Mike smith knew and admitted to being about twenty lengths behind and cost zenyatta an undefeated career of twenty for twenty
We'll never know he only started 6 times. He dominated each race but 6 lifetime starts can't place that really nice colt on the podium with the all time greats.
With this Breeders Cup Classic win it puts America Pharoah in a Elite Position. If I am correct he is the only horse to win The Triple Crown & Breeders Cup Classic which is the Horse Racing Grand Slam
I would have sure loved to have been the owner of that horse. He was outstanding. Not going to say he would have beat Big Red but he beat the best they had to ran against him.
