Fascinating match, shame about the sound quality of the recording (and that's not just the archive material) but still important in Test history. Thanks for placing it on RU-vid.
This is the best footage of Wes Halls bowling. I have read thrilling accounts of thatlast over in Rohan kanhais bok Blasting for runs. I only have a query. DID HALL START HIS RUN UP FROM THE SIGHTSCREEN? If so, did he reduce his run up later on? Perhaps the one who can unravel this mystery is Wes Hall himself who is still alive.
hall never ran from the sightscreen. at the time of writing all this some of his compatriots did not imagine that one day this false myth would be blasted by you tube video. he was a cyclonic fast bowler but Imran Khan, craig Mcdermott and others had a longer run up thsn him. Hall was however a treat to watch.
Only Holding is on record with a 'sightscreen runup' from my readings. Many bowlers simply had varied run-ups that were exaggerated by locals around the world.
hall said sobers told him "no bouncers!" but hall felt only a bouncer could get benaud out, and he was right. hall did his best to lose this match, didn't he? poor fellah.
