"Walk Like An Egyptian" is such a fun quirky song. This all girl pop rock band had a lot of hits in the 80's such as "Manic Monday", "Hazy Shade Of Winter", "In Your Room", "Eternal Flame", "Following", "Walking Down Your Street", "If She Knew What She Wants" etc.
They had Several monster hits, Rockin song "Hazy Shade of Winter", Mid tempo "Manic Monday", soft "Eternal Flame", they were so fun. Also "Following", "Walking Down Your Street", "If She Knew What She Wants" "In our Room",
I was in 10th grade in 1986 when this song came out. The Bangles were great! It's funny that you mentioned their hair. It took us a LONG time to get the 80s big hair look for the day! 35 years later, we love our 80s hair but would never take the time we did as 16 year old girls to do it now! But it was fun, great and amazing at the time! You need to also look to Pat Benatar - Love is a Battlefield. Great song!
Love the Bangles! Your favorite is verse is sung by Susanna Hoffs, btw. Play "Manic Monday" next! And you should check out Ace of Base, a Swedish band. The Bangles and Ace of Base are my childhood in a nutshell 😊
@Stephen Taylor really. That's cool. I'm one of Jehovahs witnesses and he converted in his last year's. It's neat finding out all of the facts about him. He was definitely talented.
I was a young teen in '86, the hair was done with a curling iron, back combing and a shit ton of hair spray, like 80's hair caused the hole in the ozone for sure.
"Hazy Shade of Winter" Is their harder rocking cover of an old Simon and Garfunkel song, and "Eternal Flame" is a powerful ballad that shows off their vocal abilities and harmonies.
This is a cute song. Better songs would've been Eternal Flame, Manic Monday or Hazy Shade Of Winter. More all female pop/rock groups you should hit are The GoGos, Bananarama or The Runaways.
The hairstyle was achieved w/ a teasing comb + the AquaNet hairspray in the pink can. I don't know what it was called but it usually started as a long layered haircut with bangs.
This might be the first 'all-girl' rock band you've reacted to, AB, but they are not the first. Fanny was 20 years earlier. First 'all-girl' rock band to sign and record. They did not shatter the glass ceiling but they fractured it so groups like The Bangles, The Go-Go's, The Runaways could shine. Check out any of their 'Beat Club' videos.
Yes,she got the best line and she was my favorite bangle.Susanna hoff got all the boy's attention.had us all standing like statues,if you get my drift.
Everybody's favorite part is Susanna's verse. Her smokey-eyed side glance was one of definitive 80's music video moments & the moment every boy in America fell in love with her. And still a stunner today.
The hair is teasing and aquanet (hairspray)! Aquanet was probably responsible for half of hole in the ozone layer back then lol. This is just a great fun song. Eternal flame is my fave though!
And yes, people went around doing the dance from this song when it was big. And don't feel bad for missing this. Becaue I can assure you that the chorus will randomly pop into your head for the rest of your life.
43 years old here. First heard this back when MTV was ACTUALLY music. I was in high school, so it was in the 90's when I first saw it. I still hear that chorus in my head, and all I have to do is think about this song to bring it back. 😂
"Walk Like An Egyptian" was shopped around to several artists who thought it was "too silly". The Bangles needed another single to fill out their album. They debated back and forth and finally decided to record it.
@@dvsreed Really? Wow, those sucked. "Egyptian" is the song the majority of former 80s kids associate with the Bangles, it's the one that put them on the map.
Walk Like an Egyptian was their biggest hit. It went to number one on the Billboard charts and stayed there for 4 weeks. It was voted the number one song overall for the year of 1987.
This was excellent AB .. 🔥🔥🎼🔥🔥 .. these ladies were hot in the 80s .. check out there other hits ! They were great live , they could rock !.... ... an p.s. Susanna Hoffs was everyone's favorite, definitely !!! (( you can't find her playing in the band in Austin Powers movies when Mike Myers is singing)) 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥⛓️🎼⛓️🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I was 10 in 1986 when this song came out. I thought everyone was walking like an Egyptian...it was sooo popular! 😂 But this group was a favorite as a tween. To this day, "Hazy Shade of Winter" is still one of my favorite songs. "Manic Monday" is also a good one performed by The Bangles. Prince wrote that one for them.
The Bangles had a few big hits back in the '80's. Great find! If you really want to check out all-female bands, one of the first to actually play their instruments and write a lot of their songs was "Fanny" from back in the early '70's. Extremely talented and very under appreciated. Among their famous supporters was David Bowie!
Yep, back in the mid 80s the Bangles were considered the sexiest band alive. Your favorite part (and everyone else's) is named Susanna Hoffs, and she is in her 60s these days and is still a thang. Look her up. The smoldering hot red on the bass is Micki Steele, who, back in the 70s was very briefly in a girl group called The Runaways with another lady who made it big in the 80s, Joan Jett. You should also look into Joan's work. The tall blonde with the tambourine is usually their drummer, Debbi Peterson, and the blonde shakin' it on the guitar is her sister, Vicki Peterson. They have a huge catalog of hits for you to discover and I look forward to seeing more of them on your channel.
As mentioned in your comment, you should check The Go-Go's, one of successful female rock band. I just known Belinda Carlisle (she's the lead Vocalists of The Go-Go's) song name "Heaven is a place on Earth", cause i had put it on my playlist. I want to check it out more about them but i want it from your video reaction, cause i'm too lazy to search it 🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈
It's crazy after i heard your comment about their hair I looked it up and both the 60's and 80's had big hair styles but they looked so different❗❕ 60's was clean and smooth looking while the 80's was just very fluffy and kind of messy❗❕I thought that was some fun info to share with you❗❕
I would blast this song while driving my broken down mustang. The Go Go's were also a fun woman's group - Head over heels, Our lips are sealed, Vacation
Lead guitarist is smokin friggin hot! She can shred and shake. Susanna Hoffs is famous for the "eye look" on her close up, but the lead guitarist Victoria did it first, just no close up. Underrated band, talent and very influential. Bands like this will not be seen or heard again, what a shame.
I was working in a hospital when this song came out. When we wanted to ease some tension and be goofy, we would sing this and of course - walk like an Egyptian!😅😅
Ah! Love these ladies. I was only a little kid when they were popular but I loved them. You should check out Heart, another great all girl pop rock band of the same era. BTW the hair was a lot of mousse, hairspray, and back-combing. Perms too. And it definitely wasn't just the women, they didn't call them hair bands back then for nothing! 😂
Actually got to see The Bangles live and in concert, on a double bill with Mr. Mister, who opened, a true 1980's extravaganza. Have to report that they didn't do the whistling bit live, they did it with a synth, but who cares. Guitarist/Vocalist Susanna Hoffs was your favorite, and she is mine as well, she is what you call " a babe". Those eyes. And she is still making music to this day.
i subbed because you reacted to this specifically. 86..... I stole this tape from the drug store and got busted....... i was 13,,.... never stole again.......
This is pop, you want rock? Check out female rock legends: Pat Benatar, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts and the QUEENS of Rock; Heart, the Wilson sisters on lead vocals & lead guitar. Those are some female BADASS ROCKERS 💪♥️
Great reaction! Want more girl bands, check out The Go Go's and The Runaways. With The Bangles, check out Eternal Flame, Manic Monday, Hazy Shade of Winter, Walking Down your Street, just to name a few!
I don’t know if you’ve checked out the group Heart yet. They are sisters, Ann and Nancy Wilson. They started back in the 70’s and is still making music today. Absolutely one of my favorite groups of all time. Ann Wilson is phenomenal
4:52. About the hair. LOL. It was referred to just as "big hair," and you'll find that big hair was the style across men and women both in the rock music industry. If you've ever heard anyone refer to "the big hair hands," this is what they mean. Bands of the 80's that the members had that big 80's hair (men and women both - Rolling Stones are one of the big hair hands, for example).
this was their kinda novelty song. the first single that people noticed them in the uk was manic monday.which was written by prince. then there was balled eternal flame that seemed to spend along time at no1. the girl whose verse you liked is suzanna hoffs.she sang the lead on eternal flame. even though all the girls are talented and equal in the band the media decided she was the lead and she was the one the guys fancied. hazy shade of winter is a good guitar up tempo song.
I’m new to your channel so I’m not sure if you’ve heard the band “4 non-blondes” they started out as an all female band then I believe after a female band member left they brought in a male guitarist or maybe bassist, I can’t remember exactly that was back in the early 90’s. My favorite song of theres is called “What’s Up”. They have that steam punk and punk-ish look. They are worth checking out in my opinion 😇🙏
Dig the Bangles for a girl band but they are more pop rock, check out Fanny for a real all-girl rock band Blind Alley, Young and Dumb, Aint that Peculiar, Place in the Country, Charity Ball, Hey Bulldog. They rock, and got loads of real old school rock tunes
You could never release this song in 2023. It would be accused of cultural appropriation and they would be cancelled. Good luck with your generation. You've taken the fun out of everything.
This was a great time to live bro. If that song came out today they'd be accused of cultural appropreation which is sad. Our American culture although imperfect is pretty great because we've blended our cultures. Let's get back to loving each other and stop putting walls up.
I am LOVING all the reactions to the music my mother grew up with and raised me on. I'm so sad to hear there's a generation out there who haven't heard the best music of our time- and it truly is the greatest. Music today will never compare. Music died back in 2005 or so. This kind of music brings a tearful kind of nostalgia to me.
Comments like this make me so sad but at the same time grateful. Walk Like an Egyptian is a ton of fun but I can't imagine having a perspective where I think a manufactured pop group who literally didn't write any of their good songs and had to have all their parts overdubbed on their records by real musicians (apart from Micki Steele) are even comparable to some of today's artists like say Ren or Ronnie Radke.
Love the Bangles and did the dance at all the school dances, that being said one day I asked friends what if they were talking about people from Europe, how would they be walking? Walk like European.
Hair style, was referred as Jacking Up. As in any way possible. Teasing and too much hair spray use. This era is also know as the Hair Band era (mostly referring to the long hair male bands).
No they got tons but your favourite part was the whole worlds favourite part. Susanne rolling her eyes make all the tissue stocks rise like a mofo 😂 and she was pushed forward as the lead in the band against the will of the band ultimately causing them to break up. But not before they launched hit after hit doing it better than any other all girl rock band. Manic Monday is another great song as well but there are so many
