This is my third RC video! This was my second scratch built plane that I have built. My goal for this next build was to make something that I could fly in my yard, which I accomplished. This build project lasted only about half a week between the build and the flights but I am happy to share my experience with everyone else! Information about my plane specs as well as electronics and components that I used will be listed below as well as RaptorTech's video and article on The Fish where you can find more information. If you have any questions, feel free to ask below in the comments!
🞇Information: This plane was made to be a rudder and elevator controlled plane, beginner friendly. I printed the plans out from RaptorTech's FliteTest article and cut them out onto 20in x 30in Adam's Readi board from the dollar store. This build took a little less that two sheets of foamboard and weighed about 360g before I added the battery, which brought the weight to a little under 400g which worked amazingly for how much surface area the wings have. I added my own 3D printed powerpod motor mount onto the foam and 3D printed servo mounts so that I don't have to get glue residue on the servos if I were to reuse them. Thanks for watching this video, and I hope to see you guys around in upcoming videos, lots of exciting stuff planned for future videos!
🞇Parts that I used in this build:
- Two 9g Servos (sg90)
- 450mAh 3s Tattu Battery (45C) (About 30 grams)
- Standard 30A ESC (Comes with motor underneath)
- Standard Amazon 2212 1000kv Motor
- 8038 Gemfan propeller (you could probably use 9in or 8in too)
- Flysky i6x Transmitter and FS- ia10b Reciever

Never actually considered planes till this video! I’m interested!

Yeah, this plane makes it very easy to learn to fly, even in a relatively small space! Thanks for Watching!

Great job!! Just finished building my own, then just found your video. Weird thing is, I also had to devise a little power pod and secure it with skewers, exactly like you had! I added a single layer of foam to the inside of the fuse on both sides so it would hug the pod a little tighter. The original plans don't go into linkage or mounting the motor, but after building a handful of FliteTest planes, you realize there is more than one way to skin a FISH. Since I hope this can be flown indoors, I fitted it with a 2206 1500KV motor with an 8x6 prop (I might use an 8x4 if I can find a slow-fly) and a 2S battery. Might try a 3S setup with a 7X3.5.

Thanks for watching, I appreciate it! Awesome to hear that you finished your build, I agree definitely many ways to go about the build haha! Yeah I was sort of just trying to make it fly with what I had so the 8” slow fly prop worked well, I ended up breaking the set of two that I had on some branches 😂. Super fun plane though, best of luck with the rest of your build/setup, definitely let me know how everything goes!

@@Adam_Carbone Did my maiden flight last Tuesday and it did really well! Used an 850mah 3S pack with a 7x3.5 prop. This thing can go slow!!

Hey! Interesting plane! Please tell me what size you need to print the drawing for the plane? And the second question: did you print the motormount on a 3D printer? Do you have an STL model?

Thanks for watching! I made my own printed plans for a standard 8.5in x 11in sheets of paper but the original plans are intended for a 20 x 30in sheet of foam board (two sheets). I used a 3D Printer with for the power pod with this model with foam attached: www.thingiverse.com/thing:2542362 Let me know if you have any other questions or need help with anything!

@@Adam_Carbone I just printed the sheets on the plotter. My fuselage is 75 cm long. Is that not a lot? Maybe I messed up with the scale?
