I love seeing what fish do in reality as opposed to what we imagine. It seems they can get pretty fussy and sense that something just isn't right. I guess it makes getting those baits rigged as perfect as possible to even get in the game most days. Good stuff Sam. Thanks for taking us along with you.

Given the rejection rate, do we only catch the dumb fish and improve their genetic pool so overtime they will all be to smart to take a bait :O) . Love your stuff!!

Not so sure. Most fish become dumb as you say in a competitive environment, get them feeding hard, you can catch any fish. Also think many more would have bitten if the camera wasnt on the line.

@@aaronmassingham1345 I was only joking, but you make a good point. Good burley or natural schools of bait fish certainly blows their minds. Getting the filament right to hide our endeavours makes a big difference, so I am sure you are also correct about the camera.

Good stuff Sammy it is a fast learning curve when you can put yourself in the bubble trail ,have you considered a towcam with live feed to a monitor or your sounder ,i know lowrance have a video cable for HDS touch 9and12 towcam has a 240 cable ,hot tip make a mount for your downrigger weight and troll slow 2 to 3 knots 20 feet off the bottem around reef edges ,or what ever depth conditions and fish dictate , run your sounder on split screen and compare vid to sounder readings , result = WOW 👍

You can have live feed through towcam to a lowrance 9" or bigger as far as i know ,,240 ft of co ax cable, either troll or even better rigged on a down rigger 20 ft off the bottom ,3_4 knots max ,and good conditions ,lowrance have their own cable for video feed ,👍 10:

I think the camera does both attract and distract, several times you can see the interest in the camera over the bait and even a few swipes at the camera. I used to spear and go pro everything but found through a lot of testing that the old go pro what every frequency it emits attracts sharks and to a degree puts fish on more of a defensive or apprehensive state.. so now I just use the old memory bank until old age clouds the storage device.

“Are there no fish here, or are they not biting”, I ask myself that every single trip and have done so for well over 20yrs. Hopefully one day in the not to distant future I can go fishing and actually catch something that is worthy of taking a picture, but living and fishing around Yeppoon & Rockhampton it’s going to be a huge almost impossible challenge.

Watched a video many years ago and they towed a giant camera, filming everything from Alaskan Salmon to Blue Marlin. Was amazed at the behaviour and how many fish looked at the lures and never hit them

Love the footage Sammy, it’s good to see what you had on a few times that came off, no great loss with that big shark ;) Makes you wonder if bait action effects the strike rate of fish, but even the baits that were swimming super nice just got looked at at times… Probably just makes us ask more and new questions than it gives us any definite answers ;) I bet that was a mammoth edit too, thanks for sharing! Did the one camera survive the whole season? Any hits on the camera directly?

Seems like some of the fish are spooked by the camera, and some are actually curious about it but still don't touch the bait. Very interested in seeing more of this.
