The towbar now gives you options You could tow a portable wetroom with bath etc and water container a bit like a window cleaning van that carries it's own water supply for off grid and or a separate solar panel system with more solar than Geeky Phil lol But when you are towing a trailer I think you need c1 on your licence which you should have automatic right to etc The reason I say this is because I drove a 7.5t truck which I need c1 on licence and drivercpc etc for commercial use etc but I could obviously drive a van etc but when I drove a van plus trailer there is always a tacho machine in the vehicle as I had to put my digital tacho card in when a 3.5t van towing a trailer etc it might be different for leisure or recreational use etc
Interesting video Dave, not 100% sure but you may need vagcom to code your vehicle up for tow at electrics. Been thinking about fitting one on my T6 but at the moment a diesel heater is higher priority.
Dave, you made me laugh. At the beginning of the video, you ask Louie, if he "had enough toys". Then, at the end of the video you state, "you can never have enough toys". Louie isn't worried about your toys, so don't worry about his. Although, you mounted this on the "Whippet Bus", so now I don't know what to think.
I purchased a tow bar from the same company for my Iveco daily 35S12 on a 04 reg , which was not wide enough for my van after about 10 messages there last reply was I was not following the fitting instructions or his questions , I even put it together on the floor and it was still 2inches too small to fit the width of the chassis on my van so If you have a Iveco DONT bother getting a tow bar from them , I don’t want the tow bar to tow anything it’s just to carry my wife mobility scooter so I will have to get another one from another company so £132.03 down the drain
I have sorted it out I fabricated a new crossmember when I say fabricated I used the the new parts and just welded a new pipe on To them all fitted now it needs painting ,I would of done it today but just as I got the spray paint out it started raining , my last reply from Ben was I never followed the instructions and no part of the instructions says to assemble it on the floor , I said to him in a message before that reply, If I assemble it on the floor the cross member would still be too short , he even said my reg was not recognised as being a IVECO even though I sent him two photos of the front and rear number plates on my van , I have had the van since new yes it’s getting on in years . I have only once had a problem getting insurance once and that was because the insurance company put a O instead of a zero, it’s done now any way I will just have to get more steel to make the brackets for the winch in the front ,and fit my gas tank then I can start the inside so my van should be mostly done by March ,we’ll that’s what I’m working for I did try to do a video but after a while of videoing the sky I gave up I never noticed my phone had fell over .hope you had a good New Year’s Eve all the best .
Hi, very informative. What is the maximum weight you can carry on the towbar? What kind/weight is your motorbike? I'm looking for a crowbar for my Citroen Relay, but all suppliers say the max.weight is dictated from the vehicle manufacturer - but I can't find the information on the V5 or in the vehicle owners manual. I'm wanting to mount my Hydralift bike carrier to carry a 500cc scrambler, it's 163 kg. I'm currently touring sunny Spain, and the bike is transported inside my camper. Hi David thanks for watching 👍 as I understand it the Carry weight is with in the I load capacity of the van so my van is total of 3.5 ton however The towing capacity is different to van and it’s not related to the load capacity I think it’s more related to the braking capacity I only know this as I’ve just got a new car and it’s towing max capacity is 1.5 ton I would do some googling on towing capacity of your specific van and load capacity of your van too what we used to do is just look at the leaf springs and see if there was still curved and not flat but it’s not that simple nowadays 👍😀🐾

Lol sorry I get lots of messages and git your mixed up I fitted them myself The roof on a crafter has pre-drilled holes and the rack comes in 3 parts so it’s very easy to Bolt it together ( you need to do it before you fit your roof lining tho) the ladder is fitted by drill in the back door and bolting with a back plate all the bits come with it 👍
Hi Dave, great video as always 👍 This did make me smile when the notification went off as I had ordered one for my Sprinter the day before.........great minds!! 😉 As you rightly pointed out at the Bug Out meet the recovery eyes on the rear of these vans are higher than the plastic bumpers.....not good! Having watched your fitting instruction video & mine being 83mm higher at the back it should make fitting it easier - thank you! 😀 I’ve also ordered eBay item 183910561056 as I don’t trust a tow ball when being recovered. Looking forward to your next one 👍👍👍
I’m putting a winch on the front of my van but I have to make a frame to fit the Winch to the front as I don’t want to pull the front of the van off if ai have to use it ,and I’m hoping to do quite a bit of wild camping so chances are ai will need it at some point the only down side I have is taking the front of the van off to get the correct measurement for the frame to fit the Winch so I’m going to half Make it and then cut it down to fit because with doing it on the road I don’t want to leave the van with no front on it over night , it will not be until next weekend tomorrow I’m hoping to fit my gas tank which I had to make two brackets for , the once that came with it don’t look or feel safe enough for me , but know doubt they are , I just wish I could do videos, how are the mud flaps doing , did they work ok OK . I hope they do hope you and yours have a good weekend what’s left of it .
Many thanks Thomas the mud flaps are working well I’ve not cleaned my van from last weeks muddy weekend 👍 I was also thing of putting a winch on the front but I did have one on my old Land Rover that I used for off roading and I only used it to pull other people out Having one on the back is a lot better if you are by yourself you always need to pull yourself out backwards ( or that’s how I see it) good luck with your van and just have a go at videoing it 👍 have a great weekend 👍😀🐾
One Man and His Whippet the only thing I am worried about fitting it on the back would be I will more likely have loads of cute and bruises with banking my chins on it every time I went to the back doors of the van unless I can make a cover for it , you have just give me a thought more likely be up thinking the best way how to do it , might have it so it folds under the van . Yes thanks again I think that will work pen and paper out now see what I van come up with , I will do a video the sound will be crap , but it may help someone if it works out ok 👍
I was also thinking of putting it inside the back of the van just behind the back doors 🤔 Easy to fit through the floor into the chassis, easy to wire rope and it keeps it clean you will just have to open the door to use it 👍 good luck with it 👍😀🐾
