I’ve read that Marcus Aurelius was chosen as sole emperor by the senate as it said so in antoninus’ will, but he threatened to step down and if his step brother Lucius verus didn’t become co- emperor. That’s why there were two rulers. Loved the video otherwise
Antoninus Pius wasn't inconsequential, he kept the peace and prosperity for 20 years straight, Marcus Aurelius himself was inspired by his competent and great reign as emperor, I'd argue that the fact his reign as the Emperor of Rome as boring is by itself a great feat.
Just my opinion but it probably should be the 8 good emperors. Vespasian-Marcus Aurelius. The only reason Domitian breaks the streak is because the senate hated him. And who cares what those fuddy duddys think?
I agree. Domitian was a pretty good emperor for one who was pretty much neglected. He was the only one(I think) who actually tackled Rome's economic issues and his administration was really good! Who cares if he pissed off a bunch or arrogant senators?
@@FlowIrec he was a really weak and degenerate emperor, also he basically ended his own dinasty. Honestly no Domitian cannot be considered a great emperor (he is more on tiberius league)
@@tuskact4overheaven873 "also, he basically ended his own dynasty" ...umm, he was assassinated? Unfortunately, you don't get the option of continuing your dynasty when you get murdered in a palace coup
The Flavian dynasty destoyed Jerusalem.... Hundred-thousands Jews were killed during the First Jewish-Roman War (66-73 CE); especially during Titus' Siege of Jerusalem. And Vespasian was legate of one legion during the Roman invasion of Britain in 43, where a few hundred thousands Britons died. So, there were good at butchering other people.
@@histguy101 He was assassinated because he was hated, if he hadn't been a tyrant he might have ruled longer and continued the Flavian dinasty with an heir. Not being hated is also a virtue a great leader needs to have. Ik its kinda random to answer a year later sorry.
Why did the Romans start wearing beards? Because Hadrian, because the Greeks. Why were they clean shaven before that? Because the Greeks, because Alexander and his successors went clean shaven and that style caught on all over the Mediterranean during the Hellenistic era. Before Alexander, Romans wore beards.
The Five Good Emperors my ass Only 4 of them, Nerva doesn’t deserve the title of the 1st Good Emperor. Also Antoninius did leave Italy from Egypt once, so he actually did leave at some point
It was the third rebellion and they've slaughtered tens of thousands of roman civilians already. It was basically what's to be expected in 2000 years ago.
Your life matters, the message of the Bible is that Jesus Christ, the son of God was willingly punished for the evilness of humanity. He loved you so much that He was willing to die a horrible, brutal death. He was punished instead of us. But the only way to actually be forgiven and make His sacrifice effective in your life, is by believing in Him and trusting that His sacrifice was for you. Do so, and you will have eternal life. God loves you and so do I, God bless you.
