[SUBSCRIBE, LIKE & COMMENT] Thousands of Lincoln Weld-Pak 3200HD/Pro MIG 140/HH 140/HB 140 and similar Lincoln MIG welder models have been plagued with a problem causing the wire to stop feeding, but the gas solenoid still works fine. (Obviously not a trigger button issue.) Hundreds of furious owners have posted online over the last decade, only to see one suggestion: checking the rotating power selector, but that's not the fix for the most common problem source for wire not feeding. THE COLLECTOR CAR GURU Sam figured out the root cause and solution: old nasty grease binding up the many gears in the wire feed motor transmission gear set. Just pull out the motor and transmission gear box (Part number L7801, of which replacements are no longer available), remove the four t20 torx screws on the gear box cover, clean out the chunky old grease apply new grease and reassemble. Remember to check your motor is spinning the correct way, as switching the wires on the motor terminals will reverse motor direction!
Apologies for poor lighting and extreme grainy close-ups.

Your mistake is not the LINCOLN welder , it's the PORSCHE 914 . It's a piece of garbage .

Bingo...!!! My Lincoln weldpak 100 stopped feeding wire and I was just going to replace it, it has lived a long productive life. The old grease was set up like glue in the gearbox, cleaned, re lubed and still in service. Thank you! (I still may get that new welder...B-)

Mine stopped working after some heavy welding. I watched this video and then miraculously started to work again after watching. I realized that the welder had to regenerate power to continue welding. It’s a small weld pack 100. Lol anyhow, this is a great information if my welder really breaks. 😅 Thank you!

I realized there is a duty cycle: The duty cycle of the Lincoln 140 Weld Pak welder varies based on the output settings: - At 90 Amps: The duty cycle is 20%, which means you can weld for 2 minutes and then must let the welder cool down for 8 minutes within a 10-minute period. - At 140 Amps: The duty cycle drops significantly, likely around 10% or lower. This setting is more demanding, so you would need to weld for a shorter period before allowing the welder to cool down. These duty cycles are standard for many smaller, home-use MIG welders, balancing the machine's capabilities with its cooling requirements to prevent overheating. You want to keep it on during the cool down period.

Mine was feeding.then stopped feeding.i found the wire bunched up inside by the spool...seems it's broke where inside the cable..I cant pull it out from the rip. It's jammed like it welded itself inside sheathing.

Hey, nice video, but I got a better tip. When this happens on my Lincoln welder, switch power settings and try before doing anything else. Why? I have no clue, but it works. Something in the control board locks up I guess, and to reset it, switch power settings and play with the wire feed speed. It has worked on my welder numerous times. Annoying to say the least

Thank you Sir! All it took was playing with amp selector knob. Wasn't between letters, but going back and forth resolved problem. Never would have guessed and your saved me from opening it up and going down the wrong road. I'm happily subscribed...

Awesome, thanks so much for making this video. This is the same problem I'm having, wire feed tries to turn but binds up. My Lincoln Pro MIG 175, 220v is 18 years old, so it makes sense the grease has hardened. I took it apart as you suggested. The grease still felt like grease however, at the output shaft of the gear mechanism is a very small roller bearing. The grease had hardened in the roller bearings. I cleaned them with carb cleaner, blew them out with compressed air until they spun freely. Re-greased them and everything works great now. Thanks so much for the info.

My Weldpak 100 stopped feeding and so I followed your advice and pulled the feed motor... took it apart and the metal gears had turned the grease into a layer of adhesive that coated each spinning surface. I had to scrape the flats of each gear with a razor blade to get the buildup off the gears. I cleaned all the gears and gearbox, then lubed each surface with synthetic marine bearing grease (it's what I had on-hand) and turned the motor gear by hand to ensure that all gears spun freely... they did, but it was a slow process. If you open the feed motor, don't just add lube like I did the first time.... you need to pull the gears out (keeping track of placement) and remove the years of sticky buildup (from the petroleum jelly or other cheap lube they used during the original manufacturing process). No more feed problems... not jerky feeds... hesitations... just consistently steady wire feeds. Thank you!

Great work! Yes, you have to take time to properly clean those gears and hand turn them to ensure they are meshing well and spinning freely before re-lubing. Glad you are back melting metal.

4:33 Thank you for your help. I was having the same problem with the gearbox, but i took some channellocks and just broke it loose. However, saying that you've done it the correct way. In my case, it's always an emergency weld. So I got to play with it and there you have it. As you said, always, check the selector it has to be right on target. On a on a weld pack one hundred

My Weldpak 175HD stopped feeding wire, but your video helped me getting working again, so thank you. Poor welder has spent too much time outside. The contact at the back of the voltage selector knob probably needs cleaning for one. At first it seemed the feed problem only occurred on the two lowest power levels (A&B), but then it seemed to fail completely. That seems to confirm what someone said about it using welding voltage, which I would not have expected. The grease in the gearbox doesn't seem too bad, but the motor itself was fairly jammed up with crap. Besides a fair amount of dust, there a surprising amount of ferrous grit sticking to the inside and outside of the motor. Most surprising, there was a gang of pincer bugs which had taken up residence inside of the motor. A fine mesh metal screen on the motor cooling vents could prevent these problems in the future.

my motor will turn but if i put enough tension so it doesnt slip, it stops.will this fix correct that? thanks
@djisydneyaustralia
@djisydneyaustralia Год назад
The motor uses a pwm voltage comprised of welding voltage , so you're correct in goung for the main voltage switch first as they do suffer from common issues , the gear axle is also a problem never saw a gear failure but did see many axle and housing failure where the reduction gear had enough slop to disengage the pinion .

What about intermittent wire feed when you know the motor is spinning properly? I heard you need to have no kinks or loops in the handle cable but it still skips.
@CollectorCarGuru
@CollectorCarGuru 9 месяцев назад
A few of issues can cause this other than kinks/loops: the first is obvious -- the wire is melted to the electrode. Second is anything to do with the wire going down the cable itself: kinks in the internal sheathing of the cable, kinks in the welding wire or wire that is too thick for the cable. Third is your feed rollers are too loose.

Mine shorted at the cord going into my generator . It would barely push wire if I kept pushing the button ...is there a safety relay or fuse or something in there? I really need it working so I can finish my RV repair and get on the road
@CollectorCarGuru
@CollectorCarGuru Год назад
The Lincoln welders have a circuit breaker on the back, as well as duty cycle thermostats -- so if you heat the thing up too much, the thermostat reduces power or turns it off until it cools. If your cord shorted, that is likely due to an issue of the cord being twisted, crimped, cut, etc...

Recently bought a weldpak 140hd, not running, the guy said he accidently wired it or plugged it i to a 230v plug and it just immediatly stopped, i checked all the motherboard and wiring jnside and do not see any damage or dark spots, the reset on the back doesnt seem to work or has never been tripped he said, any ideas on how to get it up and going again?
@CollectorCarGuru
@CollectorCarGuru Год назад
Doesn't make sense, as the plug wouldn't have fit and there aren't enough wires to do so. Do typical electrical diagnostics starting with checking for voltage at the circuit breaker with a multimeter. If you have it on one side, but not the output side, you can always try jumpering the circuit breaker on back to see if it powers up. Follow the power wires testing for each point. Wiring diagrams are available online.
@michaelbuck6265
@michaelbuck6265 Год назад
@@CollectorCarGuru I'm aware the plug wouldn't fit, he made his own adapter three way plug, 220 to 110 typical three way cord, not knowing g there needs to be some sort of reducing effect like the plugs you see for campers to drop the voltave.
