So, fun fact. Originally, Vivi wasn’t supposed to exist. The creation of Vivi came from Oda drawing Ms. Wednesday with her hair down and thinking that she looked very princess-like like that. Funny how things work out, huh?
At First The Princess of Alabasta will still exist because he already thought that he needs to put a princess but she will be separate from Miss Wednesday...... I THINK
The part with Luffy meeting Toto gives interesting insight into Luffy. He sees Toto working himself to the bone at a seemingly useless task that he refuses to let himself be removed from. Luffy starts digging too, annoying Toto by throwing sand into the hole he was digging. Luffy insists he's helping. And he is. He's distracting Toto from his work, getting him to take a rest he wouldn't have taken by himself or if someone had told him to. He's smart and subtle that way, which people don't really notice because of his wild personality. It's like One Piece itself, how the subtleties of the story are hidden below the cartoony exterior.
I know right, it just my headcanon but I believe that luffy recognized Usopp right away through his disguise but pretend to behave that way as he could understand Usopp’s price, there is no way Luffy looks at the long nose and the first thing he thinks about is not Usopp. He can even recognize Pekom considering they don’tknow each other that long and he even gets Pekom’s name wrong.
@@LinhTran_323 Never underestimate Luffy's simplicity. He likely fully understands Toto's drive, respects it, and was trying to help in his own way, didn't know Sogeking's 'civilian' identity, and just can't remember what the cool lion turtle's name is.
No problem, after some consideration I reconsidered my thought. Respect the caution though, we wouldn't want to undermine the system with the Patreon even a little.
Big big big respect for the editing ! I notice there are multiple cuts per minute sometimes. This must be a hell to edit so thanks you a lot for your hard work !
Oda didn't think his series would last all that long. Maybe five years. With that taken into consideration, it's amazing how well the long form story telling of One Piece is told.
You talking about the cover story and being genuinely taken back by how emotionally powerful a silly/annoying side character can be just highlights one of my favorite things about the whole series. I've actually sobbed at a few moments in this series, they surprised me so much. Mambo, mambo. It's so fun to do the moonfish mambo.
#AJPiece I love how much Luffy cherishes that blank sheet of paper from Ace. Having Nami sew it tightly in his treasured straw hat implies that he equally treasures this insignificant looking piece of paper. To Luffy it's not about what the paper actually is - it's purely because it was given to him by his brother who told him to always hang on to it so this is exactly what he will do. No further questions asked. In this moment our chaotic captain turns into a good baby brother and it's kinda cute and just nice seeing this different side of him. Love how this short scene already shows the mutual very close bond between the brothers. Oda is really good at establishing core character values in just a few panels.
#AJPiece I know I have said it in the streams and others have said similar things but I really wanted to once again talk about your reactions and discussions about One Piece. Your reactions are incredibly hype especially to the big moments. It’s very interesting to see you writing notes and coming to your conclusions regarding the characters & themes of the story. I’m very glad the chat during the streams and the comments for these discussions are making the experience better and more enjoyable. I appreciate how much you understand One Piece’s themes & characters since it’s my favorite story possibly ever especially because I think there are some people who read this that miss the point of things in the story or don’t understand things fully. You are one of the only content creators I have seen myself that is so analytical when it comes to this manga. I expected it after seeing other videos from you but you exceeded those expectations so much. Thank you so much for making such entertaining content. As always I love all your content & keep up the awesome work.
#AJPiece I just wanted to say how much I absolutely love the fact that Luffy looses to Crocodile at the end of this section. In so many shounen (& just stories in general really) there's a clear progression path where the protags get stronger and always coincidentally go up against a villain is only ever so much stronger than them, but not here. As you pointed out we first saw it with Zoro and then again here with Luffy, there are people out there that are stronger than our crew, period, and Oda doesn't shy away from putting that on full display from almost the very beginning. Especially when you consider the time period when this wad coming out you could probably count on one hand the amount of popular shounen that had their main character flat out lose a fight this far into the story. It's one of the things that really made me enjoy OP as much as I did when I first read it.
not snowing in the Drum island while Ace was there is foreshadowing for Crocs' influence on Alabasta's weather aka rain. P.S. I think the reason it rained and the thunder struck the stage in Logue town is because it is part of Dragon's power/devil fruit; because his intention was to save Luffy which he did again against Smoker moments later
1:18:22 when Sanji stops simping you know things are serious 😂🤣 A.J. is already a major one piece fan, knowing these characters so well and I’m here for it #AJpiece
Our first introduction to Sea Prism Stone was in Logue Town when Smoker uses his jutte (only sea stone at the tip to help mitigate the chances of Smoker accidentally being affected by it) to pin down Luffy and when they catch Buggy and Alvida in a Sea Prism net. That scene where Crocodile stabs through Luffy in the anime is incredible too. Croc's voice is so so intimidating when he says "Who do you think I am?" It's such a shift in tone and it's legit the first time I was shocked and disturbed at the visual of Luffy losing so completely. Love your reviews you gotta get on some collabs now with other One Piece connoisseurs. Spread your wings you beautiful butterfly and get social! Always a joy. Til next time!
Idk, I kind of hope he doesn't do any collaborations. He's already very busy and that would just add to it. Let him take it at his own pace. Plus I don't know if he even wants to do any.
I’m very social lol don’t you worry about that, but personally I’m not interested in any collaborations for reasons pretty far removed from me being social. Hopefully that’s understandable. Glad you enjoy the videos!
@@Aleczandxr just to clarify I wasn't assuming you're not social in general as a human being. I was just saying I'd like to see you talk with other One Piece RU-vidrs about it. It's a fun community. Of course I'll still watch along with your journey but out of curiosity why wouldn't you be interested?
So ever since watching your gurren lagann videos, i have been waiting patiently for you to review one piece. It has been a series that has been there for most my life at this point and i have always found it a magnificent story, but seeing you on the streams and with the vids gives whole new meaning to certain parts of the story for me and it gets me very excited for what is to come! Love the channel keep it up, ill be watching.
I love hearing you go over every little nook and cranny of lore, characterization, themes, etc. There's so many little things in the story, some even I missed, that you point to with a magnifying glass and talk about, and I find all of it insightful and fun to watch!
#AJPiece Luffy saying to bet the lives of the crew too stems from Vivi saying "I will stop the rebels no matter what", to Toto after which we get interesting reaction shots from the strawhats since she said "I" and not "we". She was still carrying the burden of the entire country on her own and Luffy noticed that and was not okay with that. She is his friend after all and a friends burden is his burden too.
#AJPiece I want to use this comment to talk about Vivi. You have covered stuff with her amazingly especially when it comes to her relationship with leadership & her dynamic with Luffy. Your love for her is wonderful to see. I think what’s most important about her character are the themes about different kinds of strength. She doesn’t have as much physical strength as say Luffy one of the physically weakest but that just makes her great mental & emotional strength all the better & mean more. There are more examples of this than I can name but one I will point to in particular is when she uses that knife dart thing to try to kill Crocodile when she almost certainly thought had no chance. I think all of her strengths are great way to show her extreme bravery as well. That’s about all I have to say except that this was an awesome review. Keep up the great work & I hope you’re doing well when you see this. :-)
#AJPiece someone else may have pointed it out, but I love it so I'll say it again. It's very interesting how Luffy tells Vivi people will die, and she's being naive, because it's exactly what he's always done. In Syrup Village, in Arlong Park, at Drum. He got into fights where someone might die, he fought to stop that, putting his life on the line so no one else will die. So is it self awareness, him realizing she's doing what he does, but he simply doesn't care if it's his life. Or is it hypocrisy. It's fine if he risks his life to save people, but when others do it they need to be realistic.
Really interested to hear your thoughts on Jaya/Skypiea, I consider it all one arc. It’s my favorite part of the series, I think it distills everything One Piece is all about. Now while it has a lot more love nowadays, it’s still a criminally underrated arc and at one point was disliked by the community. It blew me away the first time I read it. Just pure adventure.
RE: that question about whether luffy shows king like attributes already - shortly after he does that bit where he punches vivi and tells her what her priorities should be, it cuts to king cobra who tells pell and chaka the exact same thing, that going after anyone but crocodile would be a waste of time and that the battle won't be without sacrifices. i thought that was notable
If you're hyped for the clash of all these forces coming together in Alubarna, then check out the art for Volume 20! It's one if my favs and sums up the hype for what's to come really well!
#AJPiece another symbolism from one piece power system you missed is Ace's flame power. up to that point logia has been an unfair disadvantage for luffy since he cannot punch them. but here comes ace . a powerful logia that brings a sense of security. and its neat that is centered around fire. something that can bring you harm if you are to close to it but can also bring warm and happiness. i remember a similar theme like on Avatar the last airbender SPOILERS aang learns that fire can be used more than just to bring destruction. in one piece however it is linked to the idealism and realism of the series. luffy is an idealist that knows that he can be "burned" but sticks to it none the less. and also something to keep in mind. the flames also represent a sense of comfort for luffy. something it will important later on so dont forget it
Always a treat to listen to you talk 😂 not just for One Piece but definitely welcome to hear about your thoughts of the most simplistic gestures/subtle reactions of any character to interpret the authors intentions ^^
#AJPiece very excited for next review. the end of alabasta is one of the most powerful pieces of media I have ever watched. vivi trying and failing again and again to stop the fighting. with luffy saving her while saying "I hear your voice". culminating in her at the top of the tower, after pell takes the bomb away, screaming as hard as she can for the fight to stop. trying so hard to get her people to listen. nami getting the crew to stop the fight by force if they have to. luffy literally unearthing crocodile and "exposing" to everyone who he is and what he has done. and the rain finally coming after crocodile no longer steals it, and the fighting stops, and people finally listen to Vivi. it's so damn powerful. and the goodbye scene of course. I have the X tattooed on my arm because of how much that resonated with me. this arc is just amazing.
#AJPiece I find it interesting that at first Smoker was ready to fight again on hearing “Captain’s Orders. I would have let you drown.” But upon seeing Luffy is ready to fight with him, Smoker changes his mind.
#AJPiece. Just so you know, Robin's power doesn't allow her to grow new body parts. Instead, it allows her to duplicate her own. If the duplicates take damage, that damage transfers to the originals, which is why she withdraws her power later as those originally stunned by it respond by attacking.
#AJpiece It's not just Tashigi, Zoro also didn't use his blade against miss Monday and used the back of his blade against the "nun" in whiskey peak, notice what all 3 have in common 👀
I just realized after you talked about characters acting ''stupidly'', I'm on the camp that gets frustrated by it. But I was never frustrated with OP for it, and I think it's for the reason you mentioned. When characters act illogically because they are driven by emotion, or it's done in favor of a certain theme in the story, it's just naturally flows for me, without realizing I just accept it, because it does make sense. It's when it's inconsistent with no reason, or it's done just to advance the story with no regard to whether it affects the character/story negatively that I get frustrated
I just want to say hearing FFXIV music in every video always throws me for a loop. I often put these on right after finishing playing FFXIV for the day. Never stop all the music is great
Just wanted to add a couple fun/short and sweet questions for #AJPiece. (No need to include my name if chosen) 1. You’ve seen a few examples of Oda liking to bring back minor characters unexpectedly. I also loved the little extension of Jango’s story. Which characters do you most hope to get more little side stories about? 2. Who are your favorite animal characters in the story so far, and how do you feel about Oda choosing to convey some specific themes through animals rather than characters (determination through the legend Karoo D. Uck or loyalty through Laboon, etc.)
I really like listening to your OP reviews! You take your time to discuss about all your thoughts and you seem to understand the characters and the story pretty good. I subscribed now and I'm looking forward to your next reviews :)
#AJPiece are you glad that Oda has begun to focus on some heavy political themes in the most recent arcs you've experienced? Is it suited to this type of story? I know you love politics being explored in series such as HxH, Attack on Titan and Berserk
One thing that is neat about Mr. 2 is that he has the code names for both a man and a woman. Or at least so I've heard/read. He is numbered as Mr. 2 and is also named Bon Kurei/Clay and apparently that is a festival in Japan so he has the naming style of a woman. Which is rather neat. You might have heard it or even said this I'm still catching up to your reviews but I thought that this was neat. #AJPiece
#AJPiece Continuing the talk about pride, what do you think about Shanks view on the matter? In my opinion the first chapter shows how much of a cold head and humble guy he is, when a random bandit throws sake at him
#AJPiece What are your expectation for future One Piece arcs from what little you know of them? Themes, events, fights, moments etc etc. It is always satisfying to hear about what one is told about any show or movie that makes them go "I want to see it happen". And it is beautiful to see something though different eyes. Thanks!
#AJPiece Bon-chan is a treasure and we dont deserve him/her/they. With that said its very important to see the duality of things, Oda normally show a theme as both good and bad as well as different "correct" approaches, and I love how positive Oda generally is about LGBT despite the way he draw some characters to show different points of view. The scene when they meet Bon-chan at the boat and became friends right away is a personal favorite
One thing I love about crocodile is that he feels like he could be an entire franchise’s villain, spoilers below . . Z . . . D . . . . Crocodile loses to luffy because luffy exploits a weakness, but crocodile was at the time stronger than luffy, we also see in marineford that crocodile is at the very least able to hold his own against mihawk who is according to oda slightly stronger than shanks, mihawk is the strongest character we’re aware of currently other than characters we don’t know the power level of, sure mihawk was bored and fighting half heartedly, he’d prob beat croc in a serious fight but the fact that croc was able to hold his own means he is a massive threat and extremely powerful, we also don’t know his backstory yet so I’m excited to see more of him
Like always i am Absolutely "Extatic" about this new content "Offered" to us, Sir Aleczandxr. [ I always loved your Analysis Videos. ] So once again, *Thank you very much Good Sir!* *- When it comes to this call between Sanji and Mr.0,... I would like to point one little thing, just like some peoples shared with you they're insight about Usopp's lies.* *- Sanji "Presents" himself under a certain name during that call....* [ I will not say a single other word. [ In Front of the Casino in Alabasta,... This "Pseudonyme" is used once again. ] ] In the End,... I am very thankful and in "love" with your own point of view about *One Piece.* [ Which you truly seem to appreciate right now, this is absolutely endearing to Hear/See... Thank you very much Sir. ]
Glad I was a teen when One Piece came out. Having to use a repulsive politically correct term like gender fluidity is beyond me. Yes, Bon Clay is a stereotype from the time. You either laugh, dislike, or get offended. Laughing or disliking are fine. If someone is offended, that's their choice. However, being offended doesn't ever mean anything has to change. Being offended is an emotion. Emotions are fickle and fleeting. It's why letting one's emotions run their lives is a sign of immaturity. And it's why being offended means so little to me. I do enjoy your insights, opinions, and thoughts. Don't step so lightly due to a minority always being in an uproar because their offended. It teaches them entitlement which isn't good for anyone.
don't know of you read comments on old videos but just in case, minor spoiler in the form of just how many characters are in one piece. (just a number) someone else made one of many videos titled why you should watch/read one piece (I think it was the super eye patch wolf one) where they actually counted the number of character listed by name, I believe the video is 2 years old now as well, and there was 822 if I remember correctly. over eight hundred names characters. how long will this top list get I wonder? lol
#AJPiece- yo you can pretty much theories that the reason the giants are fighting is the same as sanji and zoro fight about the food and how big it is at the end off island story it gets panned out in the anime and you see 2 giant sea monsters on both sides from the giant so you can say thats the reason for the fight .
I think it makes a lot of sense that you didn't do character rankings for Alabasta but for the longer arcs that may run 3-4-5 videos you may want to do rankings before the arc is done because you don't want to go many videos without character rankings.
#AJPiece Oda revealed that he originally wanted to end One Piece after Alabasta. Do you think if he went through with this, that this would be a satisfying ending??
#AJPiece At 7minutes I totally agree that East Blue is a prologue! I always try to explain it that way. From that zoomed out perspective you will also be able to clearly see larger "acts" (multiple sagas) to the full One Piece story as you read more.
1:49:35 I think showing compassion to your foe is something both Zoro and Luffy share. It's not like it was a fair fight against him; it was a cowardly trap that Smoker had fallen in by mistake and he would have definitely died if they haven't helped him. Their ideals are too alike and that's the reason Zoro never questions Luffy's orders.
#AJPIECE Love your videos man. Since you’ve had several encounters with the marines, I’m wondering what you think of them and their role as essentially “The Good Guys” to the everyday citizen. I always loved getting reminded that Luffy and his friends are exceptions to the rule when it comes to pirates. Most pirates pillage towns and steal from the innocent so it makes characters like Smoker, Tashigi and the other marines look like the hero’s in some ways. Do you have any predictions on how this dynamic will unfold going forward?
#AjPiece do you feel like these powers Ace and Smoker have will pose a problem later down the road? Basically being unaffected by most types of physical attack. Also do you wonder why Ace with his kind of competence as well as having the fateful D. in his name himself doesnt want to be pirat king, prefering to make Whitebeard king?
As a rule of thumb, NEVER assume silly characters can't also be incredibly dangerous in this series. You're given a constant reminder of this with Luffy, AKA Mr. Comedy One Moment, Serious-As-A-Heart-Attack The Next. Bon Clay here, Mr Actually Genderfluid And Not Just Delusional Or Attention-Seeking, will be a new reminder. He's also pretty popular in the fandom, I believe.
Why would you comment this when AJ straight up tells you every video not to spoil? Please either delete this or edit out the spoiler within a day or I'll delete it myself.
@@seemonuzumaki723 I didn’t think that comment was a spoiler, but I changed it anyway. I too feel quite strongly about spoilers, the name means nothing on its own and I also gave no context as to what or why I was specifying, but sure, if it’s too much then I’ll keep that in mind, cheers
Sorry but this won’t be happening! Like I’ve said before, I will not be making any edited videos about One Piece. However, as always, I will talk about all I have to talk about with the characters in these videos!
For a full explanation I’d direct you to my first two videos on the series. The ones on Syrup Village and Romance Dawn/Orange Town. But to summarize, There are copyright risks which I am not going to screw with, it would be too much to make edited videos on the series while I’m also reading every week and making these reviews, and most importantly I just don’t have a desire to make any and don’t see that happening for a number of reasons. It just isn’t going to happen, but yeah for a fuller explanation I’d recommend watching the beginning of my first two OP reviews. Luckily these videos are absolutely gigantic and I feel more than satisfied just making them.
@@Aleczandxr Thanks for the explanation! I‘ve seen all your videos on the series but i couldn‘t remember. I love these long videos and am very greatful that you do those. So no complaining here :)
@@Aleczandxr I think he means you're definetely gonna have multiple part videos for Wano, I could easily see Wano being a 4 part video because of the length of the arc, completely discounting how packed the arc is with story beats
