YES My 21st birthday- still one of my favorite live shows ever- I was right side front and remember seeing Billy Corgan watching them too. So unreal to find this!
That performance of Under Pressure is still my favorite live music moment of all time. I was standing along the railing on the left and I remember Billy Corgan was just on the other side singing with the rest of the crowd. Seeing it again I know my memory of being in the moment is much for mythical than the reality of it, but still gave me massive chills lol!
I'll definitely never forget at the Austin show when Steven looked in my direction and started making "flicking his Bic" motions. Not to encourage the crowd to hold up lighters, but to make a snarky reference to the time he set me on fire. Bastard.
Best era lips. Was there and at multiple other shows in the years just before and after. They were focusing on the music and the spectacle came second. Lips and My Bloody Valentine were the vanguard at this point (and Slint) all in very different ways.
I miss the days of moshing to anything that was cool and energetic. Also I love the image of the woman making the face on his mike stand. It was used for the Sonic Youth album EVOL which is one of my favorites from them.
In the 90's Drowzd and I were pals. Micheal Ivens made me my first "Tom Collins". I might be one of 20 that ever saw (my personal guitar hero) Ron Jones actually drunk (somewhere is a photo of me, Ron and Josh Garza-drummer-Secret Macnines on a couch at the "Geek House"...wasted). R Jones used to use two Boss SE-70's before he bought an Eventide. I still have my SE-70 and try to make my Boss GT-1000floor and the Zioa get those sounds. Anyone who is a sound nerd should check out FL material with Ron Jones. He puts Johnny Greenwood to shame.
Even after he got the eventide he still used the SE-70s. I have one as well, many a magical sound hidden within, but nobody can do it like Ronald did it.
@@tastyslopsicle2162 I don't know for certain, I had been playing with Ron's younger brother at the time, and Michael (Ron's lil' bro) had access to Ron's "hand-me-downs". Ron broke out the Eventide at a small show in Norman, OK while the Lips were the backing band for Richard Davies (The Australian band "The Moles"). It is the first time I heard a pitch shifter, properly sound like a string section. Ron (according to his brother) used to use two ART effects racks, then upgraded to the Boss, and then the Eventide 3000 (I think...maybe the 3500?). Effects aside, Ron is a genius and regardless of what he used, he was such an amazing player/composer. He did a show once, only using stomp-boxes, as a nerdy challenge. His dad, an air-force officer and HAM-radio dork, made Ron a wireless speaker/feedback inducer....mind-blowing for a teen in the 90's.
There was this guy in Norman, OK named Mark Sharper. He shot EVERYTHING on video. I also did for a bit until I met him. We all lived in a college-frat-style house called "The Geek House" (short for "film geeks"). Anyway...loads of obscure 90's performances were recorded and are on RU-vid, but not under Sharper's moniker...it's fairly random. If you are REALLY into Ron's work, Sharper had this video of Ron's pre-Lips band...I think Jon Moonyham (Lips flier and cover art before George S) was there as well. There is a crazy guy, pretending to play guitar along side Ron, and Ron is un-phased...its pretty hilarious.
@@TheLordcasio I’m more into Ron’s work than any other musician on the face of the planet. Damn I need to see that. I knew of Ron’s pre lips band called Snail, I’m guessing that is the one in the footage.
@@tastyslopsicle2162 It was close to 30 years ago, but that does sound accurate. If you are really "hardcore" about tracking down that video, Mark Sharper used to deliver pizzas at "Pizza Shuttle" for like..way too long. Maybe they have a lead? I have seen some of his stuff on RU-vid but under other folks names. here isa link to an early performance of Stereolab that maybe...15 of us attended and Sharper shot. I never really cared for the album version of Barbary Coast, but man that shit live is freakin epic🎇 Its definitely a tune to stretch wayy out if you knowwhatimean.
@@tastyslopsicle2162 It is Tinley Park. I remember this show like it was yesterday, which is scary. We wandered out to the second stage right around the time they were playing When Yer 22 and the crowd was insane.
