The Flash was a great show for one season then an average show for another season. And then, in season 3, it finally completed its descent into badness. Let’s talk about it. You can follow me on Twitter if you'd like - / mcintyross
Barry's dad gets free from jail and goes to live in a forest away from his son straight away. Barry's dad comes to work with team flash and gets dead straight away. Barrys dad#2 is trapped in a cage. Gets free, puts on a goofy hat and leaves straight away. Barrys dad#2 comes back and gets locked in the speed force straight away. Sucks to be Barry's dad.
It's almost as if the writers could not think of anything to do with him as soon as he got released. Maybe they should not have written themselves into a corner with the whole "foster dad" thing that was never in the comics?
If Iris had stayed dead, season 4 could have been salvaged. At the very least we wouldn’t have gotten the “we are the flash” moment that made my eyes roll out of my sockets.
At the end of season 3 Flash said to Savitar, "I’ll never let the pain, the darkness, determine who I am". I genuinely believe that this line would’ve been much more impactful had Iris actually died and Barry decided to not let her death change him. It would’ve been much more poetic and would’ve created room for better writing. Also, they could’ve brought back Patty in the coming season and we wouldn’t have to deal with *We aRE tHe FLasH*
Exactly. Like it didn’t mean anything because we all know that if Iris had died at ANY point in the series, he would’ve became that brooding figure we saw in 2024
That's facts tho. I've been really paying attention to his roles and he honestly steals the show and keeps it interesting by just doing a good job with acting his part
@@ThePandaaa definitely not. He's a good actor but he's nowhere near as good as Tom. Tom has literally played tons of variations of the same character while at the same time making them all feel unique and special and complex. Grant can do an adequate job at playing a single character.
It was explained in season 1 in the first episode with Captain Cold, "Rogue time" I think : speed and temperature are linked. The colder a body gets the slower its molecules vibrate until the whole body is slowed down. It's one of the rare time were there's a solid scientific explanation in the show.
Ondine grimm that point remains how the hell was caitlin fast enough to freeze him. And the black flash isn't really a person he's a a speedforce manifestation of death
Hasn't he the body of Hunter Solomon, so a physical form ? It's not the most satisfying of explanation but let's say that BF was too focused on Savitar and was taking in by surprise.
The cold gun was specifically designed to stop a Speedster therefore yeah it should stop a Speedster and Caitlin was able to use killer frost powers to create absolute zero before so killer frost should be able to do the same
I’m just gonna say this now because it holds true. Not only were the effects of Flashpoint absolutely fucking retarded, but more so... they can’t do it. Period, end of story. You simply can’t write Flashpoint if the rest of the DC cast and crew isn’t there, it’s just necessary. Did these idiots even read the comic or watch the movie?! The entire reason why Flashpoint was so bad to begin with was because the literal world was going to end unless Barry Allen could fix his fuck up.
"I'm also a selfish prick who changes time whenever something even slightly goes wrong with my life. And unlike my comic counterpart who can do things on his own and only gets help when he needs it I can't function without a team."
I agree. They should’ve killed Iris and have Barry learn from the mistakes of his future self. Have him embrace the surviving time remnant, thus preventing Savitar from turning evil. Keep his friends and family close, and prevent Wally from going after Savitar. Etc
KAIZI not if the premise of S3 was Barry learning from his mistakes. His time remnant became Savitar because he was shunned, so if the team didn’t shun him, he wouldn’t become Savitar
Why can't there be a speedster villain where Barry has to be better at fighting instead of being faster Edit: lol they just tried this with godspeed and it was horrible and cringey. Just go back to a normal speedster villain please. I miss the first few seasons of the flash, and yes that includes season 3, looking back on it it wasn’t that bad except for the finale
Turtato not really, Barry always got faster to beat them. Barry had to get faster than eobard thawne, and won at the end of season 1 Zoom was way better at fighting, but Barry used a tachyon device to become wayyy faster, giving himself an upper advantage. Savitar was faster than barry, so Barry had to get faster to beat him. They need to make a speedster show up where he's slower than Barry, but way stronger than him, cobalt blue kind of matches the description.
Lighting shadow they better make the thinker really powerful then. Maybe everything his mind thinks, he can do it. So he could do telekinesis, fly, speed, everything
I don't know. Trying to stop her husband from saving all reality just because she'd feel a bit lonely while he was gone was pretty evil. As was telling Barry she didn't care that Thawne killed his mother.
@@Xehanort10 she's actually a version of eobard thawne that used his dna replicating device to kill iris and take her identity so that she could ruin barry's life under the guise of his wife.
@@Jadevious Bruh I'm convinced that too, they forced the fuck outta Barry and Iris relataionship, still knowing the fact that she's his adopted sister smh
Season three is my favorite season, But one thing I can agree with, Is that if iris died, things would be a lot more interesting for season four, And I wouldn’t have to suffer seeing iris being a speedster
YES HE WAS THE BEST!!!! He’s the best character and I would rather throw Iris and Caitlin onto a flame than HR dying. Also, Draco Malfoy never comes back. He was pretty good
Savitar had the potential to be a good villain that made Barry TRUELY confront his flaw of being both the most selfish character on the cast (other than Iris... and maybe Wally), while having a savior complex constantly causing him to self sacrifice. The season opened with the minor ramifications from flashpoint and swept them under the rug faster than Iris can blame everything on everyone else. Those consequences briefly highlighted Barry's selfish nature and how when it comes down to it, his decisions with his life at the forefront of priorities. When fighting savitar in the alternate timeline he knew he could make time remnants to fight with him because his self sacrificing nature is borderline suicidal, but he never considered the consequences. Then when one of them survived he was effectively shunned by everyone he cared about, depriving him of emotional stability and slowly leading him to lashing out. The solution? Literally throw him away. The team spent so much time trying to rehabilitate villains and characters who had never showed any capacity 'for good' (as they would put it), and yet they completely discarded a version of Barry that didn't act as they expected. But no, the solution to this season was simply 'kill him'. (side note, super pissed HR died in Iris's place)
Yeah seeing these jagoffs get screwed over (albeit very briefly and with no lasting consequences because this is the CW) was immensely satisfying to see.
mr. waffles It's pathetic how spineless the writers were. They chose not to kill of a character that has been around since the first season and actually add some story depth, but to instead kill of a character that's just been introduced and to simply replace them with a character that looks exactly like them.
All Flash seasons are the same, don't believe me? Let me ask you a question. Which season is it where a cosmic incident happens at the beginning of the season causing the rise of many different meta humans in central city, and Barry is forced to fight them and defend the city. And then an evil speedster shows up who turns out to be a member of team flash, and claims that he is the fastest man alive, forcing Barry to figure out how to run faster whilst struggling to keep a romantic relationship, and the season finale ends with Barry going into a portal?
Sanjay Raju Oh stop being such a critic anybody whose been in business knows that doing something over and over again but slightly different makes people happy just look at Star Wars Force Awakens, you don't see anyone complaining about that.
I wish they explained Savitar a whole lot more. Wouldn't it be cool to see the actual finale as the mid-season finale, but Iris actually dies and we see the consequences, Barry's fight with Savitar and follow how he became Savitar. Then if you really need a good ending, show how Barry defeats Savitar and breaks the closed loop and prevents Savitar from being created. Not by shooting some gun at him, but preventing Barry's time remnant from becoming evil in the first place. But Iris has to die permanently, since if you're gonna make it such an important plot point you need it to stick to it.
Season 2 was really good. Almost as good as season 1. Earth 2. Man in the mask. ZOOM For the first 16 episodes was brilliant. Just the finale was lacklustre which made the season underrated to many people. A bad ending meant people criticised
There were also far too many breaks that year in the latter half. It did Arrow favours because it gave you time to forget how much the last episode sucked, but it really hurt Flash's plot. From that moment on, I've struggled to connect with this show. The emotion connection is gone. Season five is good so far, but I have no idea why I haven't just stopped watching.
Ross: the musical crossover was a waste of oxygen My mom: the musical crossover was the only good episode of the flash Me being a big musical theater nerd and fan of the show and supergirl: *nods head vigorously in confusion of who’s right*
I know right? Thi season was really bad for me, all these useless drama...I'm starting to think that the problem comes from the number of episodes in a season, they should try to reduce the number of episodes.
Asshole HR brings them coffee and is optimistic, joyful and nice person and they don't even mourn for him if i was there i would be crying to the point i would make lakes what asshole Barry is.
Yeah, let's go back in time and kill her instead of HR, the original team Flash is Wells, Cisco, Caitlin and Barry, IRIS ISN'T SUPPOSED TO BE HERE !!! SHE'S SUPPOSED TO BE A FUCKING JOURNALIST !!!
@@rengoku2195 Iris would be fine if she used her journalist job to help them out. But she knows nothing about the different fields of science they know and hardly ever goes out into the field.
I love that as the show went on over the next 6 seasons people have come to the conclusion that this season and 4 are actually good, they just weren't on the level of seasons 1 and 2 so people jumped straight to bad.
we need to form a league of justice to avenge HR's death we shall call ourselves The Revengers we will take revenge on iris for not accepting her death
True words right here, idk what it is about the cws "supporting women" role but i always thought iris was just a black lauren. AND I FUCKIN HATE LAUREN, she was the main reason i quit arrow after i think season 3 maybe 4.
When he asks the cast about how "flashpointy" the season will be there is a moment where almost every single actor is looking at the ground. They are soooo uncomfortable and are distancing themselves from the interviewer and question. Fucking amazing.
A couple other bad things with the Barry-Iris romance 1) It's the lazy _"He's had a crush on her ever since they were kids"_ set-up. Instead of showing him develop feelings, they're just there in the beginning, then there's a season and a half of will-they-won't-they, then they get together and it becomes even worse because they have no chemistry, and neither have really changed as people to result in the relationship 2) They have no chemistry. What really sucks is that Barry and Caitlin have way more chemistry. Hell, he's had more chemistry with just about every other girlfriend/love interest than he does with Iris. I'd even say he has the most chemistry with Oliver 3) Iris is just a bland character. She did the cliche thing of being insulted and angry that he didn't reveal a personal secret (him being the Flash) that he was not obligated to tell her. She keeps being made out to be this super important person, even acting like she is the only one who could pull him out of the Speed Force in season 2 (And _not_ his own father that he spent his whole life working towards proving his innocence). The stupid *"WE* are the Flash". and the goddamn #Feminism hands in the middle rally cry
They also did the lazy "soulmates" thing. In real life there's no such thing. People meet, get to know each other, fall in love and so on but they're not destined to be together from birth. It's just a bad writing trope when they can't be bothered to develop a couple.
The problem with season 3 was Iris. When the show becomes about the love interest more than the main character (just like Arrow did with Felicity were we had same result) the story just stopped and dragged on and on and on. Sadly the CW is pushing the romance angle but neither Felicty or Iris is a likable person and both just manipulate their partners. The only good thing at the end of the season is Iris not dying this way we dont have to spend a season trying to get her back.
I hated that he saved his mom. Changed every character I invested my time getting to know each character. Now they're uninteresting n completely different
yeah. They should've made it 13-12, or even a 6 episode mini-season to develop that storyline and let barry grow as a character. And also they could've killed iris in that timeline, automatically making it the best timeline.
I had an idea. So in the mid season some events occurs and the person who supposed to die changes from iris to Caitlyn. Caitlyn has powers but she doesn't turn evil but she has mental stress and fear of becoming killer frost. The change in events push her to the edge. Barry believes that if the outcome has been changed once it can be changed again since it is not iris and Caitlyn has powers he doesn't make it his priority. This makes Caitlyn isolated and when savitar offers her a deal to save herself (he knows about her fears because he is from the future), she takes it. This induce conflict in the team and challenges Barry's moral of being the flash. So how did I do? Comment down.
I honestly hate her more than felicity... but then again, I only binged arrow this season so I didn’t invest weeks and weeks into felicity so I didn’t care about a lot of things she did
Dank Vaper Season 5 was only tolerable because of the Reverse Flash, season 4 was tolerable because of Ralph In season 3 there is not a single character for me that makes the season tolerable However after seeing the series again, the problems that plague the Flash have always been there, since season 1 the episodes are so formulaic, but after so many seasons the same formula has become so boring
Season 5 is the worst. The suit sucks, nora is annoying, the villan is cartoonish and bad, there are barely any good episodes except for maybe the 100th episode and the season finale. Just the worst thing I had to watch and I can never watch it again.
With so many people running around with superpower lets make Iris the Leader in Season 4 Yeah Makes total sense Waiting for the downfall of Flash Season 4 video
"I personally don't understand why this is such a big deal cause Iris dying is all I want" I'm dying, but in all honesty me too. "Made it easier to read btw.
You pretty much said it all. I could not stand Season 3. It was an absolute mess. Every character was unlikable and you could see the plot twists coming a mile off. And for a bunch of geniuses, these guys sure do trust people easily. How many times does Team Flash have to get double crossed?
Season 3 tried too hard to be clever, and it ended up being stupid instead. It overused the element of shock value. The flash had so many twists and turns, and eventually I didn’t care about half of the characters on the show.
I have 3 things to say 1. Can't people express their thoughts without getting hate on the internet 2. Why does having American blood make you better at understanding English 3. If you're so patriotic why don't you follow in the footsteps of your forefathers who literally started a war for freedom (including free speech)
I am not from the Americas in the first place. But my communication skills would be far better than pretenders who got Americanized jus soli way. However, I cannot see the mistake being pointed out on season 3. Makes sense right?
Noura Althani by ure name i guess ure a girl and i like that you can see that this season was garbage beyond trash. Thank u for not beeing a idiot fangirl
Compared to seasons 1&2, this season was weak as hell. The worst part about this season was Westallen. They spent almost an entire season trying to save Iris.
D. San yeah you girlfriend/wife means more then your best friend. That doesn’t excuse from being a horrible friend has he even apologized for that yet, How about to Tracey.
These are my opinions on all the season: Season 1: amazing great plot line and learning the characters except for Eddie no one cares for him. Season 2: My favorite season Zoom was such an antagonizing villain. Season 3: it was meh Season 4 : I don’t like it because there wasn’t a daily meta human to fight like season 1. Season 5: full of bad plots I hate how cicada was just able to escape whenever the hero’s got distracted for .1 second
For me season 3 was the worst, the villain was the worst with devoe being really close Cicada would’ve been the worse but Reverse flash saved season 5 But if you pay attention, the problems that plague the show have always been there, it’s just that after so many episodes we have began to notice the problems
4:27 If it were me here's how I think they should have done Savitar's origin. Have Savitar be this ancient deity of the Speed Force, but have the future time remnant of Barry Allen simply pose as Savitar to the cult. That would be much easier to understand in my opinion. Then the end of the season the Future time remnant of Barry is killed when the real Savitar appears.
Have you guys noticed that Barry defeated none of the villains Reverse-Flash killed by Eddie zoom stopped by the time wraiths and Savitar stopped by iris leave some for Barry
Tuxy I more concerned with how little she cared about shooting Another Barry. I actually agree with Savitar he was just a spare to them? Just like HR. I also had a problem with Barry mocking his time remanent when he was the one who created flashpoint.
HR dying genuinely saddened me because he was arguably the best character in the show at that point and we just got more of Olicity but Flash style in place of it. Its literal fucking cancer to my brain.
They had so much more chemistry in their short run than Barry and Iris have had over three seasons. The only relationship I like worse than Barry and Iris is Oliver and Felicity.
Season 3 failed because the writers couldn't grow a pair. They could have kept Savitar as overpowered as he was in his introduction and forced the characters to learn to work around his speed, but they went the easy route and nerfed him. They could have committed to killing Iris and completely uprooted the dynamic of the show, but thy went with the predictable copout that they did. They could have committed to keeping Barry in the Speed Force prison and ended the show right there, but they wanted to milk this show into oblivion. If the writers had some balls, this season could have been incredible. Also, I loved the musical episode, I live for any interactions between Barry and Kara, they're so much fun together.
The most annoying things about the last season for me was how everyone and their mother have powers now, how his smarts are never shown off anymore (he’s like completely dependent on everyone else’s smarts), and how down and depressed he is all the freaking time. Barry isn’t unique at all anymore and it makes me very upset. Besides I also just reaaally dislike Wally, I want him to leave. I want smart, happy, mature Barry who is actually smart enough to figure things out for himself.
Maggalynn22 AGREE.Finally!!Someone who doesn't think Wally is cool.To me he was just a wimpy kid who made me cringe every time he was on screen. Also his "relationship" with Jessy was so forced. And WHY did basically EVERYONE become a speedster???
he got his scar when he was time reminant the savatar before him gave it to him. And the reason he he didn't kill barry is because even though berrys death won't directly affect him he needs to kill Iris so berry will create the time remnant that becomes savatar so he does all of this to insure his own creation like how marty mcfly gets his parents back together to make sure he and his siblings could exist
Yea but do you really need more danger when Mick and Charlie are on the ship🤣 In the words of Rip Hunter, “Doing anything with your crew is like doing brain surgery with a chainsaw!”
5:10 "the more you do it. The less the rules apply to you" this was totally contradicted in episode 21 cause and effect. Savitar says that the rule of time travel doesn't apply to him as he time travels far too much, that anything that happens to barry doesn't apply to him. But in episode 21 Barry looses all his memories and it then applies to Savitar, this also occurs for the whole killing Irus thing, if time doesn't affect him. THEN WHY IN THE HELL DOES HE NEED TO KILL IRUS!
