The Flavour Feeder - A No-Feed Feeder?

I recently did some tests on Supermarket products to see if they could be used instead of the expensive Bait Additive products manufactured specifically for anglers. In this new project, I wanted to use these liquid additives in a new type of feeder which could bring fish into my swim without actually filling them up with feed. This feeder would be used mostly in Winter when the fishes metabolism has slowed down to the point where they eat very little.
The result of my experiments was to make the new Flavour Feeder which is the subject of today's video. I would welcome your comments about how well this might work.

Very interesting, slow release "mechanism" and the bit about adding some pellets, g.bait or even maggots etc is a good idea. Waiting to see how it fishes, good luck!

Been doing flavoured bit of sponge in a cage feeder for years in the winter when it's hard going. Cut the sponge twice as large as the feeder so it doesn't come out. You can also use the sponge on a method feeder held on with a piece of pole elastic. Condensed Milk leaves a nice cloud.

Thanks Ian. I glue all my sponges in with Roof and Gutter Sealant. I like the idea of Condensed milk though.

That’s a great idea for carp Den, my brother and I used to use a similar idea for Pike in the UK over twenty years ago. We used to mash sprats up and put them in a block end feeder to help draw the Pike to our baits as all the flavours seeped out into the surrounding area. It’s a great idea for carp by the look of it.👍👍👍👍

Hi Den. Looks like a good idea. I have a couple of suggestions, let me know what you think. 1) Add a bit more liquid to the molasses to make it thinner and it will release from the sponge quicker. If it's a still day with no wind there may be no undercurrent/tow on the water so if it's thick it will take longer to release it. 2) Fix the sponge to the feeder by pushing a length of wire through the feeder/sponge and twist it with pliers, or even use a cable tie if it will push through the sponge. This way there won't be any danger of it coming loose and a fish taking it. Just a couple of suggestions, let me know your thoughts. Edit. Sorry you did say you had glued the sponge with roofing sealant. I must pay more attention!😐
@FishingwithDen

I have mixed curry powder with it as well as the strawberry flavouring so it does seem to match the consistency of the ones you can buy (at least those i've seen on RU-vid being used) have to admit I haven't tried the spread testing in water though, so I can update you when I do@@FishingwithDen

Rather than drip molasses onto the sponge why don't you just immerse the whole feeder in it and let it soak it up? I dip my method feeder and groundbait into molasses this way. I'll try the sponge method come winter (probably tomorrow the way it feels!!). Incidentally, one fishery I go to with Catfish and Carp bans the method feeder to prevent the Cats swallowing them, a good idea with Cats.
@FishingwithDen
@FishingwithDen 11 месяцев назад
It just takes longer to soak up that thick goo Colin. I like the way a couple of plunges makes it soak up the right amount.
@colinhope
@colinhope 11 месяцев назад
@@FishingwithDen Your molasses looks thicker than the one I get (Horse feed additive) so your method suits best.
@robertvanempel5810
@robertvanempel5810 11 месяцев назад
Not sure about the sponge?. The idea is great, but i would only use it in a fully closed off feeder. Instead of pushing it into the sponge, why not thin the Molasses a bit if needed and inject it into the sponge?. A finished tomato sauce bottle with a nozzle should do the trick.
@FishingwithDen
@FishingwithDen 11 месяцев назад
I didn't want to thin the Molasses out Robert, so pushing it in seemed to work the best for me. Why would you only use it in a fully closed off feeder?
@robertvanempel5810
@robertvanempel5810 11 месяцев назад
@@FishingwithDen I mean a feeder which has holes, but has closed ends, so the sponge definitely doesn’t get out of the feeder.
@FishingwithDen
@FishingwithDen 11 месяцев назад
@@robertvanempel5810 But the sponge is already securely glued into position by waterproof roofing and guttering sealant? I mentioned this in detail at the 3:00 point.
