P Robinson ok I’m sorry but I gotta disagree, I loved this movie and it brought me back to my younger childhood but the ending goes completely off the rails. The entire movie focused on minimalist direction with simple meaningful camera work and a light barely noticeable soundtrack throughout the whole thing, then in the last minute of the movie music comes blasting out of nowhere the camera starts making quick jump cuts around and follows the characters with a shaky cam. in like 5 cuts they go from a hotel to Disney world with no explanation while the police are searching for her, it gives no closure on the characters I had become attached to and completely throws away the harsh realism built by the rest of the movie. I would’ve honestly liked it more if it ended before they even started running as that would give more closure and send the message of the movie clearer than the mess of an ending we have now. Feels like they completely changed directors of the last minute.
@tingod2007
@tingod2007 4 года назад
@@Kfcbby33 I think that was exactly the director´s intention. That harsh realism was probably too overwhelming for a young girl of that age. She burts into tears at the end and desperately escapes to a world of fantasy, a world where she just wants to be a child.

This movie weirdly depicts how my life was like when i lived in countless motels as a kid so accurately. It’s crazy to see it on screen other than in my memories....i also lived with my single mom who always had men over. She struggled with drugs and alcohol...but me being a child, i still only saw the purity of it all. when i’d describe my past to people - everyone would always tell me how sad and horrible it must’ve been to live like that...but they were some of my fondest memories. i was free back then. wandering around, being a kid with no boundaries. sure, looking back - it was probably irresponsible of my mom to let me roam around...but i can never get that again. just being able to explore and enjoy life for the simple things....not responsibilities.

yung bruh bruh The point of the movie was to raise awareness for people living in critical conditions like Moonee and her mother. The ending was an interpretation of a child’s escapist fantasy to make us feel better, but it doesn’t make the reality of their separation any less depressing. Halley wasn’t a responsible mom, but it was clear she really loved Moonee. That’s the saddest part of the film to me.

This movie really hit home for me because in my hometown, there are small communities like the one in this film. People, like the tourists that call the motel a dump & such, don't understand that the people living in these communities are still human beings like you & me. Yes, they might have put themselves in these situations, but they're still human. I know friends, I even have a couple of family members who live in these kinds of communities and they are some of my closest friends and family that I love truly. Willem Dafoe's character shows humanity towards the people living in his motel, while the people who pass by don't. Because they are not just people living in his motel, they are his friends and like family to him. The Florida Project is one of the best films of 2017, and a very important film overall.

This is an incredible movie that depicts poverty and childhood - an unrepresented population in America. It delves into the bitter truth of living in a culture of systemic exploitation. We see both the mom and the children in the movie learning the rules of living a life where exploitation is the cultural norm. It is a Thelma and Louise of childhood. Going back a bit farther, it is akin to Mother Courage and Her Children - a play by Bertolt Brecht which depicts life as a mother trying to survive in a decades long European war.

Nope, the mother of this movie is a horrid person, she does nothing to better her, or her child’s, life in any way. The other moms and dads seem to be trying at the very least, but the main mother is a degenerate who does nothing to help her child. Unfortunate, that means the daughter will grow to be just like her, childish, without reason on fear of consequences.

It's a powerful film that deserves to be seen, but I'm amazed that some people found it funny and heartwarming. That wasn't the mood when I saw it; the audience left in complete silence, looking shaken by what they had seen. Sensitive people will find some scenes difficult and disturbing to watch, as the doomed central characters head towards tragedy, seemingly unwilling and unable to change course.

Just. It just. I've never seen a movie that pinned me the floor with silence and introspection. None of it feels like a film, and it's characters are people we all recognize. It's innocence is brutailty. While adults are crumbling the children are just living and playing and can't grasp the tragedy around them which is the truely tragic part. When Moonie cries it was such an honest wet fingers in her mouth kind of a cry that any parent would recognize and rips your heart out. I want to say it's art, but it was so literal and honest that it doesn't even feel like art. It just feels like another day, and that is beautiful no matter how painful it is.

Grew up poor, but I got to LIVE. The countless adventures in the woods, the friends, the freedom... roaming flea markets alone with other kids my age, climbing on old knocked down trees, feeding the local cows and goats. We now live somewhat comfortable and a part of me is happy my kids will never know the struggle I knew, but a part of me is also sad they won't experience the adventure of life I had that you can't really show them unless you were at that place of struggle. Everything looks different from down there, and so much more amazing. Will be watching this tonight with my 13 year old who recommended it to me.

This movie is special as it taps into those transitions in life where one part of your life ends but you’ve not yet reach the beginning of a new one. It’s an in between where you experience freedom as a child but instability and uncertainty as an adult. And then life forces you into a situation. I can’t explain it.

I really related to this film because I grew up poor and my imagination made my situation unknown to me and my siblings. A truly beautiful movie that will please humanists. Every cast member serves an Oscar. The directing, producing and script writing is award worthy, too. Willem Dafoe really endears the audience and that just proves how great an actor he is, playing a villain to a soft hearted gruff character. I see great things for Brooklynn Prince, the main character.

Maxmillan Maxmillan well "poor" children in the US are not actually poor. They usually have a roof, plumbing, ac, beds, clean clothing, foodstamps, cartoons, free school, healthcare etc. Much more than poor kids in other countries. Its only when theyre old enough to compare themselves to the joneses that they feel "poor" but they are not very poor.
@slsilver481
@slsilver481 10 месяцев назад
I disagree. Many poor children in the US have substandard diet, no ac, bedbugs, poor medical care, substandard clothes and shoes, untreated or undiagnosed learning disabilities, no dental care, and stress from absent parents. Sure they are not labouring in mines but still poor. And lots are homeless. @@alexandramn6734

I grew up living in Orlando my whole life and my family always had passes to Universal, Disney and Seaworld. I've been to all three parks more than I could ever count and it truly is magical. With that said, it is heartbreaking to know that this is the very situation that so many families live in and I'm so thankful that I never did. And what is pretty haunting to me is, that this motel, The Magic Castle is probably about 2/3 miles from Disney World.

My daughter recommended this movie to me. I never did sex work, but I was pretty poor when she was younger. My family... are not the best of people. Lots of drunks, lots of addicts. Insanely, I was able to live in the margin of their lives while not ruining mine. But! My daughter saw some things, experienced some things... Etc. i regret it a lot but i was a teenage mom and I got my shit together when she was 9 or so. She showed me this movie and said, "my best memories are from Kansas". How can something break and mend your heart at the same time? I still regret my early twenties but I guess my daughter grew up loved, relatively safe, carefree and free range. If she can look back on it fondly, I suppose I can try, too. ❤

i thought the fireworks were from Seaworld. I was born in Orlando but never really lived there.I do remember seeing a lot of the sights as kids. I just hate they made it seem like people dont really work and just live like this. The people of Orlando deserve to be represented better.

My fiancé grew up in a similar situation/setting to the one in this film and she was choked up for almost the entire runtime. We watch a lot of movies together and she believes that this film captures childhood innocence amidst American poverty in a more accurate way than anything else she's seen.

This truly reminded me of how I lived in West VA, my mom would struggle finding a job and would hustle to help provide me with happiness.. the ending brought me to tears. Must watch! It's also funny

I live for almost a year homeless in a hotel right down the street from where this movie was shot there really is an epidemic of families living in hotels there because housing is so hard to come by I'm so happy that they made a movie about this. Can't wait to see it.
