This is one of my favorite scenes of the movie. It nonverbally explains the powers of nature, the animals that inhabit it and the effect it had on Seth.
This is what happens once you get laid. Seth was just a nerd, once he nailed Veronica he suddenly became the best version of himself or in this case, a gymnast.
I thought it was smart on the story front how he experienced the positives of his fusion with the fly at the beginning, super strength and loads of energy, it made seth think everything went right during his first teleportation and only veronica could see the bad things happening to him as the fly genes became more dominant and then once he realised veronica was right his life started to become unbearable and horrible!
@@adamcortright494 Pods were not made for fusing 2 "passengers" into one. When Seth used it and fly got in, computer fused them both cuz the program was made to transform the "passenger" from one pod to another. Fusion was unstable and thus it took time for fly's genes to fight for domination.
There was a deleted scene where he fused the baboon with a cat and the fusion occurred instantly. I read it was deleted because it served no purpose to the plot, but now I realize that including it would have contradicted the idea that fusions aren't instant.
@@hbooey It wouldn't. That scene was actually foolishly taken out. 1st - it was deleted cuz execs were afraid of the backlash -> 2 cute animals fused into one, brutally killed with a - if I remember well - crowbar. Yeah, it wouldn't pass for wider audience. 2nd - it had it's purpose. Cronenberg made this scene to show how desperate Seth became and how far he was gone. He started to experiment on living beings to find a way to save his humanity, this scene also was setting up the idea of fusing with someone to stop his mutation. 3rd - it didn't contradict anything at all, hell, it actually explained the final scene since a lot of people had issue of understanding the final teleportation and transformation. During first teleportation there were 2 pods: A and B, to movie objects or living being from point one to another. Seth transformation wasn't sudden cuz he was merged with fly by computer from pod A into pod B. Computer didn't know what to do with second organism so he overwrote Seth DNA with fly DNA to "get rid of" second life form, Program wasn't prepared for it. In deleted scene Seth is already experimenting with one more telepod. He was trying to teach the computer how to fuse 2 living creatures into stable hybrid. As You can clearly see it's whole different scenario. This scene shouldn't be deleted cuz it added a LOT, not only gore, but what's most important more depth and characterisation. Without this scene it seems that Seth was do broken by fly genes that he lost his mind and just wanted to be merged with his pregnant lover, while baboon scene shown us that he actually was working on this before, he was desperate and obsessed to find a cure, a way to save himself and this obsession, will to survive no matter what was so strong that when he lost his mind the idea was burned inside his brain even tho fly took over - it just added a lot more drama.
Geena Davis deserves praise here for somehow conveying that she's both aroused and scared to death. Some part of her knows that what seems to have happened to Seth is too good to be true.
I also wonder how being cut with a fly affected his perception of time, he probably felt like everything around him was moving really slowly, a brief conversation might've felt like hours.
That is such a good point! I never thought about that. Especially with the coffee date scene with how fast he was talking and moving, and how impatient he was for that drink! Makes sense, very interesting.
After being fused with a common housefly during teleportation sequence, Seth Brundle begins to exhibit increased physical superhuman strength, stamina and sexual potency.
@Alden R Davis He basically becomes the best version of himself. Then, the breakdown begins and his intense sexual urges become almost an addiction. And one day it occurred to me while rewatching the film. The sexual impulses are actually Seth's human half trying to preserve itself before the Fly takes over.
Poor Seth at first he turns into a superhero then later he turns into a monster that’s so fucked up you get something great out of your life And then all of a sudden it turns into your Worst nightmare ever
L- sit to handstand, handstand push-ups, back-lever and some bar flips. These gymnastic moves can be learned by any human without having to being turned into a monster.
Okay, but not suddenly (according to the movie) in the middle of the night, not having the necessary physicality and above all without ever having done it.😊
That was a pretty basic routine for a gymnast - I too could do most of what was performed there - but back in the day I was blown away. It's the only scene I recall from the movie. Didn't even realise that she (from the other movie) was there.
So let's say he was right there is no fly, instead when you teleport all your impurities dissappear what exactly does that say for the future of the human race.?
Jordan Pope haha you're right that editing got me it was Brent Meyer i found out. But still take a moment to appreciate them for doing stunts and doubling for all these movies but still doesnt have an actual photo on imdb smh
