From Season 1, Episode 9 'Days of Nuns and Roses' - Unable to raise enough money through donations, Sister Bertrille thinks they should go into business. With the donation of the raw materials, Sister Bertrille thinks they should produce what she calls the Nectar of San Tanco: sea grape juice. Out of faith, Carlos and one of his business associates, Luis Fiero, agree to exclusive distribution rights of the product without even knowing what it is. When Carlos finds out it's sea grape juice, he pulls out. The business is in trouble when the creditors come for payment and the sisters haven't sold a bottle's worth. Luis Fiero changes his mind and decides to distribute after sampling the product and seeing Sister Bertrille fly, thinking that the strength of the nectar was the reason for his vision. But because the bottles of juice have been sitting around, they have also been fermenting and turning into wine. So when Carlos delivers the bottles to Luis and needs to go through customs, he is arrested for trying to smuggle sea grape wine. The customs inspector raids the convent. However in the meantime, the juice and the wine has made yet another transformation, this time into vinegar. Fiero buys all the bottles of vinegar anyway, the sisters stop production and after paying the creditors, end up twenty-five cents in the red, the twenty-five cents paid by Carlos. He knew this venture would cost him something.

ABOUT THE FLYING NUN: In her second television series after "Gidget," Sally Field plays the perpetually perky young nun Sister Bertrille. Her tiny frame and billowing robes allowed her to "fly" whenever a gust of wind kicked up!

This plotline reminded me of "I love Lucy" and the Honeymooners. Remember the Chef of the Future? Remember Lucy stomping the grapes in Italy? Remember Lucy selling her pasta sauce, on roller skates no less?

Lucy and Ethel were selling Aunt Martha's old fashioned salad dressing, not pasta sauce.

Yes, that sounds right! And the recipe included onions, right? Good times!

And remember her demonstrating Vitameatavegamin...which had a bit more of a kick than she thought it would?

OMG Vitavitavegamin!! A true classic! Just imagine the nuns selling Vitavitavegamin and getting tipsy on the altar wine!! Go for it Sister! There was a high school in the neighborhood run by an order of Brothers. (I think the Christian Brothers or the Franciscan Brothers had a brandy they were famous for?) These brothers always joked: "We aren't the brothers who make the wine. We're the brothers who drink the wine." 😎

We even have them in Key West. I nearly fell over when they were mentioned. Such an odd subject to put in a mainstream show, IN THE SIXTIES! The taste really is Devine.

This TV program was originally supposed to be in 4:3 video picture mode, NOT 16:9 !! Why this for ???

If you chilled it for a day or two it would stop the fermentation process.

On the serious side, there are a few religious orders that do sell wine and brandy, and various foods. My mom used to buy from one of them by catalog. Best fruit cake ever!! Yes, fruit cake that you really want to eat more and more! I wonder if they are still in business.

It wouldn't stop it. It would just slow it down. Things still ferment in the fridge.

@@davidlong3219 Dude i've been making wine for years. Never not once has any of my wine ever kept fermenting to vinegar after 2 days in the fridge and some of it is 10 years old. The yeast dies. End of fermentation.

For the record, everyone, it is bacteria that make vinegar, not yeast. But they need the yeast to make the alcohol first, which they "eat" to make vinegar.
